At midday on a weekday (spring-2026), this warm-feeling comfortable pub was active but not crowded. Of course we had beer-battered fish & chips: tender sweet cod in a not-too-thick crunchy flavorful coating, with fresh greens, onions, and tomatoes. Served with piping-hot thin fries, hand-cut to give a variety of crispier vs. soft bites. You could get that as a small-plate, as a Po'Boy sandwich, or as a main. And we had a bowl of thick rich flavorful creamy chowder. Delicious, satisfying dishes. They had a nice selection of deep crusty savory pies, too. We loved their amazing range of single-malt whiskeys, including some like a smokey softly-fruity Port Askaig that we haven't seen elsewhere. We liked slowly sipping a strongly-peaty young Islay, like 10-year Laphroaig, and Boyd's also had plenty of smoother well-aged pours up and down the price-range. They also had a nice selection of crafts, ales, stouts, ciders, and several Scottish brews. We saw that they have live music almost every evening (not Mondays), with midday music Sat and Sun. Scottish, Irish, bluegrass, old-time, classic country, and more! Next time we have to fit that into our schedule. And fútball (soccer) of course! For lunch, we got the deviled eggs to start - something that is a go-to for us. They were solid and enjoyable. For the main, we opted for the Abridged burger and the Chicken club. Both were solid as well. Fries were crispy, but a bit over-salted, and I enjoy some salt. So made a note for next time to "go light". Service was good too. Mind you, there were plenty of servers walking to help the other tables around us as we were waiting. Finally a server walked up, her name started with an A, and she was very flippant with helping us. I ordered a beer and my husband ordered water and son ordered a soda. We also went on and ordered since we had no idea when she would return for our order. She brought the water and soda but no beer and then we didn't see her (at our table) until our food came out. My beer came out with the food, a good 10 minutes after I ordered it. I know you may be thinking that the bar was backed up but her other table (that arrived after) got their drinks right away and also a 2nd order of drinks before I received my beer. She never came to check on us with our food and spent more time at the table that arrived with her friends. Her attitude and personality was vastly different with our table versus her friend's table. When it came time to get us our check. I saw her roll her eyes and walked towards us. I let it slide instead of calling her out on her actions as I just wanted to leave. We paid our check and left. I truly feel like this will be our last time here because of the service we received. We have many friends who travel to Knoxville for various sporting events (since I'm in that industry) and I always recommend Stock and Barrel. Pleasant local feel, a few regulars at the bar but one of the largest collection of beers, ales and ciders, both bottled and on tap. The bartender was a petite young woman, very friendly and knowledgeable about the products. It was my birthday and she offered me a complimentary slice of cheesecake. I declined but thought that was a nice offer. It is not real close to home so probably won't be our local, "Cheers" style of place. The patio looks amazing so will make a point to return in warmer weather.

Great spot! Wow!…read more While passing through Knoxville, we stumbled upon the Preservation Pub. We had seen a band was playing, so we figured we would drop in and check it out. Not a bad spot on a Tuesday night! Band was lively, and the crowd was friendly. Didn't realize at first that there were three(+) levels, so finding the arcade on the second floor (as well as another bar) and the roof patio (with yet another bar) made this place super fun. Lots of different settings depending on what you are looking for. The rooftop was great though - giving a view of the city, as well as a lot of interesting built in art. Also loved the artistic (signed decorated) washrooms - that was a hilarious and unexpected touch! If I lived in Knoxville, this would definitely be one of my go-to spots!
