$18 meatballs and spaghetti. Not worth it.
    Lea B.

The food is UNDERWHELMING to say the least. The side of pasta I was served with my scallops was Luke warm and watery like it was dipped in hot water and slapped in a bowl with a slab of butter. Meatballs had a bit too much spice for the kids and grandpa. I tried one and wouldn't enjoy them either to be honest. Pizza was similar to that of frozen. View is nice. Bathrooms are recently remodeled and clean. Finding the hostess station is hard--Walk past the bar and into the dining room and it's on the right hand side. The bar and restaurant has a smell of a motel air conditioner.... Moldy and old. Parking is sparse. But you can dock a boat! Make sure to call and make reservations if you plan to come here. People keep coming for the view.

I love the beautiful sunsets & giant ships that can be seen from indoor or outdoor dining areas, consistent Italian comfort food, and the most fun Happy Hour atmosphere from A Bay to Clayton. Will you wait? Yep. But that's because everyone who knows comes here. Who cares? We're all on River time anyway. Play some arcade games, enjoy a mixed drink or great glass of wine, and meet the friendly locals. Come by car or by boat. Chalk's marina is right next door with fuel.

Beautiful sunset view from our table we were able to dock our boat and dine!

5 stars great waterfront view, great ambiance, food and service! There was a problem with water pressure in the ladies restroom. (That was the only downfall)

The waitress was very friendly. It took 23 minutes to get our food which is about average. The bread they serve before dinner is very fresh. The salad they brought was also very fresh. I ordered the chicken parmesan. It was excellent. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly. We had a table by the window and had a gorgeous view. The caramel cheesecake was also great. Servings are very generous & I had enough for lunch the next day.

This place is always busy but they have a very nice location on the water. My family and I went on a Sunday night and there was about a 30-45 minute wait around 7 pm. Parking was a little difficult because it was so busy but we were able to find parking a little bit down the street. When we were seated, the workers were nice to us but it was very warm and there were a lot of flies. We had bread for the table. I ordered the salmon which was tasty. The teriyaki sauce on the salmon was good. We had a nice dinner but just a little warm and had to wait.

Everything was excellent, from the elevated service, to the decor, to the music, to the cozy and elegant ambiance....and the food blew us all away! You don't always expect to be full when you leave a nicer restaurant, but Riva was an exception- the portions were generous. The sourdough was delectable, the caprese ingredients were fresh and colorful, and my pasta was hearty and full of vegetables. The chicken breast I ordered to go with my pasta was moist, but bland- perhaps blackening it or simply adding more seasoning would help. My husband's pizza was sooo garlicky (in the best way possible!), and the crust was an ideal texture and chewiness. My mother in law ordered the fish of the day, which was salmon with a mint cauliflower puree and asparagus- it was delectable! My father in law ordered the spaghetti aglio e olio and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were so satisfied when we left, but wish we had left some room to sample their desserts. If/when we return to the area, we will most certainly be visiting Riva again!

But they also have nearly peerless homemade pastas (of which the smoked paprika linguine is my favourite, though they often only make it by request), spectacular prepared sauces, and regular specials on essentials that will get you things like premium olive oil or balsamic vinegar* at supermarket prices. * Genova is one of the few places I've regularly found a variety of pure, aged balsamic vinegar free from sulphites. AWESOME. So, here's some tips: 1) They ONLY TAKE CASH, no exceptions. I once witnessed a woman curse them out for this fact and declare she'd tell all her friends not to shop there; when she left, everyone in the tiny shop, myself included, burst out laughing, and one of the guys declared "we can barely keep up with the customers we have, we don't need her!". Very jovial, and they took her bitch-fest so perfectly in-stride they could give lessons on how to turn the other cheek. 2) If you need a quick lunch, pick up a focaccia sandwich -- they're about $4 if memory serves, with salami, lettuce, tomato, and mustard, and they're fantastic! If you want to suddenly realize you're hungry, walk down Wellington around 11:00am for the wafting glory of baking focaccia and just try to resist the pull. 3) When ordering pasta instead of ordering by weight, order by serving size. Say things like "I'm having a dinner party for six, four big eaters and two regular", and they'll give you an incredibly accurate amount of what you need, plus a little extra (because people WILL want seconds, believe me!). 4) Their homemade calabrese olives are out of this world good. They use a puree of oil-marinated chilis, oregano, fennel (I think), and oil, and very, very good sun cured olives... and damn, these things are so good I eat them until I hurt. 5) Ask what's on special, or if they have any leftovers. I've scored half servings of pasta, day old (but still delicious) focaccia, and nearly expired but still awesome cheese for cheap. Finally, I'll also mention that the staff here are fabulous -- very nice people who greet with a smile, always bid a good day, and work diligently to help provide you with exactly what you need to hit a homerun with whatever it is you're cooking. Only downside: Toronto Maple Leaf fans. Egads!

Normally I would never get this type of pizza as I love a red sauce, but this was recommended by one of my friend's friends so we tried it. And I'm so glad we did! This pizza is amazing and the flavours are prefectly balanced. Fast forward to this year, I was on a road trip with my husband and my dog and I just HAD to have this pizza again. We ordered the Nona Mela and the Citta pizza (the Citta has prosciutto and brie), and they were both delicious! The Nona Mela was especially good, and my husband agreed that it was a lot better than what he expected. We couldn't finish the two pizzas between us, so we brought the leftovers home and reheated it two days later. Somehow, the pizza was even better than the day of!
