The oxtail meatballs were something special!! I assumed it would be a little oxtail meat with filler -- I am so happy to report it's all oxtail meat and they are scrumptious! For dinner I got the garlic noodles with the most tender short ribs I have had in my life! I went for my partner's birthday and though the French onion soup and charbroiled oysters were absolute standouts we were a bit disappointed because we had to share a table with other diners which was not communicated prior to seating. It seemed a bit disjointed as we did note there were some parties of two alone at the same size booth we had to share. We were just surprised since it was a birthday dinner and expected a bit more intimacy. The steak was delicious and you could taste the truffle on the fries- be warned some can be salty but oh so good! The snapper was good but it's largely for presentation since they cut the meat off the bone (which some do prefer!) so the fish nuggets a bit dry but we still enjoyed. Overall we're happy we went but for us we think the apps are more standouts/more value than the main courses. Fraîche has great food, but I do think it's a bit over priced. The Charbroiled Oysters, Mac and Cheese, and Oxtail meatballs were fantastic! The garlic noodles were cooked perfectly, but the sauce was a little too sweet for me. The salmon was tasty, but needed a little salt. The gumbo was delicious, it has a dark roux and deep flavor. Aside from our day-one server who did pretty good with 7.5 of us, the meals were wonderful. Went for brunch. And the shrimp with grits. And the bread pudding!!!!!!!! We had mimosas, an old fashioned, bees knees, and a frozen strawberry mocktail. A little heavy on the honey in the old fashioned and bees knees but we might've just not been used to the honey syrup drinks. Food comas all the way around. When mom said she's pleased - that's the compliment cuz she's not easy to please. The manager and the chef came out to introduce themselves and tell us more about the restaurant. Just left everything was beyond exceptional. Upon arrival the customer service was great, the staff happily greeted my party. Even though it was a full house, as soon as we sat down we were served water, and then the waiter took our orders. The appetizers we soooo good, ordered the oxtail meatballs, deviled eggs, cornbread and ribs! My favorite part of the meal was the fried snapper. Also the lighting in there sucks and decor is not appeasing. We waited over 15 min for menus at our table. We also waited a long time for our food and drinks. The tables had a very strong rubber smell that was off putting and we all kept thinking someone urinated because it smelled like urine. We then realized it was the tables that must be new and had a very strong rubber type odor. Also finding the front door entrance was difficult. No one was at the hostess stand. We then saw the hostess ask the couple next to us to get up and go because they had another reservation they needed to sit. Overall, food really is a strong point here. I ordered the golden gate noodles with lamb chops, and my friend ordered the gumbo. I tasted both and loved them both. The only thing I'll say is that the lamb chops were a bit fatty, but they were well seasoned. I ordered the Butterscotch Bread Pudding. This bread pudding will haunt my dreams. My friend and I visited Fraîche over Beyoncé weekend (which also fell during the July 4th holiday), expecting to enjoy a fun and elevated dining experience. Unfortunately, while there were some highlights, our evening ultimately fell short of expectations. Let's start with the positives: * Service: Our server was kind, attentive, and genuinely tried to accommodate us throughout the night. * Ambience: The space had a lively, chic vibe--definitely gave Real Housewives of Atlanta energy. * Food: Some of the food was decent, though not memorable. However, the negatives unfortunately outweighed the positives: * Furniture: The seating included basic black chairs and mismatched lounge-style couches, which clashed with the upscale image the restaurant seems to promote. * Steak mishap: My friend ordered her steak medium-well. It first arrived well-done. After sending it back, it returned the exact same way. On the third attempt, it came back rare. At that point, we gave up on the steak altogether. * Manager interaction: While our server noticed the ongoing issue, instead of relaying the situation to the manager herself, she brought the manager over and said, "Okay, explain your side to the manager." That felt off. As guests, we expected the server to advocate on our behalf and handle the issue more directly. * Fries: The truffle fries were more reminiscent of McDonald's fries with what seemed like parmesan sprinkled on top--not exactly what we were expecting from a restaurant branding itself as elevated. * Pricing: This was perhaps the most shocking part. * $25 for a margarita * $25 for just four oysters * $52 for spaghetti noodles with red pepper flakes, garlic, soy sauce, and lamb chops * $58 for steak frites These prices would be steep even for a high-end dining establishment with a flawless execution. I could've done without the caviar which drove up the price to $21 for 3 deviled eggs! It could be I'm just being picky also (eating in DC is way too expensive). My daughter had the mambo snapper which I tried and it was amazing!! The breading was light and the fish was melt in your mouth delicious! I had the drunken noodles and lamb chops. The lamb chops were good; however, the noodles were extremely salty! It tasted like they out salt and soy sauce when they should've just used soy sauce and the other ingredients for the sweet component. Cocktails were good. My fault that I didn't know the "still water" was $10 a pop! Also the water glasses are too small! One sip and you need a refill! Hence why the waitress did not tell us that the still water was $10. It's a shame DC is charging a 20% service charge and only 10% goes to the wait staff. I also wish we had the waitress that was serving the tables closest to the closet with the security cameras. She was very informative to her tables when they sat down and looked like a true professional! She had glasses and a ponytail. Our waitress wasn't bad but she didn't have a personality and messed up on our check twice and was slow bringing the cocktails. I will add that the appetizers came out super fast as if they were under a hot plate and premade. Which might explain the dried out meatballs. Our reservation was for 6:00 so it's not like we arrived right before closing. It also was not appealing to see the security closet while eating and a line to use the restrooms that overflowed to the dining area!
