Old school Italian place with checkered table cloths. We were promptly greeted and seated, and water glasses and bread with butter arrived shortly after. I ordered the Monterey Bay Calamari Steak Doré served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh sautéed vegetables . The calamari was lightly battered and served in a lemon butter sauce. What a little slice of heaven! "Frad's" is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant- worthy of wandering out of your own neighborhood to check out. Small and quaint, with throwback, comfortable styling. The food is fantastic (the salmon over homemade Meyer lemon pasta is to die for). The service is outstanding and friendly, and the prices are more than fair! Paul, the owner (as opposed to Paul the waiter) makes his own wine, which is very affordable but much more importantly, very good (try a carafe of the Red Blend). The staff- from Paul, to Bart, Nate, Cindy and Tanya have been here for years. Eating here feels more like going to a friend's house than going out to a restaurant (in the best sense of the concept). We came to Fradelizio's to celebrate the anniversary of our very first date, and the staff helped make the night feel so special. They went above and beyond--so thoughtful, so genuinely kind. They even tried to seat us at the same table we had a year ago and surprised us with a complimentary dessert. The food was fantastic as always. I love Fradlezio's! The food is comforting and delicious, the service is friendly, and the ambiance is so cozy. Their rotating specials are always on point and you can never go wrong getting a classic, like the hangar steak (best mash potatoes I've ever had) or the gnocchi (save some bread to soak up the sauce). The polenta crepe is another favorite dish that I can't stop going back to. The tiramisu is a great way to end the meal. The only thing that saddens me about Frads is that they no longer have their olives!! They were the best in town and I'm hoping one day they'll be back. read more

Sadly have to share our thoughts... don't want to be negative but this restaurant was my favorite of all time and I felt it needs some feedback. My wife and I have been coming to Frad's for decades. I understand that business change ownership and menus but I am so sad that it has changed so much. The place was packed on a Saturday night so maybe it was what we ordered that is leaving us sadly disappointed. We live about an hour away from Fairfax so to come here for special occasions over the years has, until now, is a rare and special outing. On our way there I was bragging to the kids about how amazing our food was going to be. The world's best clam chowder... Gnocchi that melts in your mouth and veal that would make you smack your grandma... What we got was clam chowder that might have been canned, Gnocchi that was decent in texture but the cream sauce tasted as if it were heavy cream warmed and poured on top, and no veal on the menu... Not to mention why no cannelloni? This is so sad... What happened? We used to drive over an hour to just buy the clam chowder by the quart! How could you change such a successful menu and why? The ambiance is still the same. Service was good. Food was not. The best thing we ordered was the fried calamari and the wine is the same and very good. What happened guys? Why did we lose the magic of the hand made Italian food? Did they not leave the clam chowder recipe? The gnocchi recipe? Why no veal? My wife and I have been coming since 2002... I understand the restaurant business is hard. And it seems like they still pack the crowd in... what am I missing? Is the nostalgia of the place keeping the crowds coming? I know it's not the food or did we order the wrong stuff? It's a magical location, a magical building, a magical atmosphere. It should be good. It's just a step below Olive Garden as far as flavor and much less portions. This kills me to say. I wanted so bad for it to be what we remember. Even halfway. It's just not. I'm going to wait and pray something changes in the years to come... I want it to be good so bad. I want my kids to bring their kids here and tell them how good it is. The memories alone in this place is why I'm not giving it 1 star which It honestly deserves. After seeing the reviews of food that isn't even on the menu anymore it's possible that most of these reviews are fake. I don't know for sure but there definitely is not Veal on their menu and there is a review talking about how good the veal was 2 days ago. Hope I'm wrong. read more

We are becoming regulars for take out! The lasagne and arugula with prawns salad. Yum. They are quick to prepare orders to go. Everything is perfectly packaged and the bread is always so fresh--better than from a bakery. I love the great service and friendly atmosphere. We were visiting over the weekend and stopped here for dinner with some friends. We picked it since there was a good variety of offerings including vegetarian and gluten free. The day was gorgeous so sat on the patio. The service was excellent. Our servers were very attentive, answered questions and offered suggestions. The wine was so good. I had the red blend, and would love to get a bottle next time. Good was delicious. Had the Golden Beet salad and lasagna. The owner stopped by to check on us. We live in San Mateo but took a trip up north for our anniversary and stumbled upon this restaurant. The outside of the building called to us and the atmosphere inside was even better. These five stars are for food quality and taste. While the server was extremely friendly, my drink glass was empty about 50% of the time I was sitting there. And they don't have Diet Coke. Their fresh caught salmon was about the best salmon I've ever had. Amazing lemon based sauce with capers. I only wish the piece of salmon was a little bit bigger. The fried calamari could not have been better. The bread was served in generous portions, and it was definitely fresh-baked. All in all, I'd say this was a five-star dining experience. We had Fradelizio provide us with food for a Christmas Day party. Since they weren't open that day, we picked it up the day before, and they provided instructions on how to best reheat the food for the party. We ended up getting 4 servings each of three separate dishes (Penne Natale, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Autumn Risotto) for 9 adults and 2 kids. Portion sizes were very generous, we could easily have gotten by with 3 servings of each (but the benefit is we had plenty of leftovers). Everything came in aluminum containers that we popped directly into the oven. As a bonus, they threw in enough garlic bread for all. Everyone was extremely pleased with the food. This place is super cozy old school Italian. And it's just so perfect. My lady had a grilled salmon Caesar salad. She loved the anchovy in the salad (I'm not one for anchovy's, but that's why they have menus) and I had the lemon fettuccine with Alaskan cod... it was mind blowing. They also have Mexican coke with real sugar instead of corn syrup. Just a total vibe for a nice dinner. And if you somehow have room for dessert.... The Owner/Host and staff was very friendly and helpful in taking our order and serving us. They help take pictures for us and the Owner even wanted a picture of our family for herself.. The service was spectacular, the ambiance was quaint and the food will be on our minds for quite some time. We were visiting from Valley Forge, PA and wish we could relocate this restaurant to Pennsylvania!! My daughters had Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Alfredo, and Salmon Piccata and ate every bite! We were delighted to try a few specialties of the house including their biscotti as well as a sampling of eggplant parm. From the absolutely delicious olives served with the warm bread right when you sit, the ridiculously delicious house blend red (man oh man is it good), perfect calamari appetizer with aioli and to-die-for cocktail sauce (seriously what is this magic?) the Napolitana (SO good) on homemade pasta, pillowy gnocchi, to the tasty meatballs. What could possibly top this five star food, which truly tastes to me like genius? The heart and soul of Fradelizio's - the people. Tara made us feel like family and in a time when we haven't gotten to see many of our own, it was priceless. It has been 10 years since we moved from Fairfax and got to visit Frad's. I'm not letting another month go by before I visit again, much less a decade.
