My boss's last day luncheon was held here, and I have to admit that he picked a pretty good spot. Not cheap, mind you, but good. The bread was warm and paired up well with oil + cheese + salt & pepper, all complementary. We shared an order of the prosciutto with figs as an appetizer--it was awesome, no surprise there. What did surprise me was their minestrone; a cup was $5 (a lot, I thought, given the size of the cup) and it was mostly vegetables. And not even the good kind of veggies, either, but zucchini and spinach? Blecch. I got what amounts to chicken saltimbocca--a sauteed chicken breast topped with prosciutto and melted mozzarella served on a bed of pasta. It tasted great and was reasonably priced at $15. My coworkers got the seafood pasta and chicken parm, and they decreed them good as well. Francesca's had a wine list that was both extensive and expensive--I saw a bottle of '05 Napa Valley Cab Sauv going for $165. Yowza. I was generally unimpressed with the meal (and the service) until dessert arrived. I opted for the lavender-accented panna cotta, and oh.my.god. did I make the right choice. It was custard-smooth, like it ought to be, and the mold retained its shape well. The flavor and texture were spot-on. I've had some good panna cottas in the past, and I've had some bad ones. Francesca's has one of the best. Sure, it was $8 for a 1-person dessert, but most definitely worth it. The lavender was mixed in brilliantly. Take note that everything comes a-la-carte, so if you want soup or salad, you'll have to order it separately, and it'll cost ya. Thankfully I didn't pick up the tab, because my meal alone likely ran $35 without drinks. Came in for lunch for a coworkers birthday. Setting is classy and in spots intimate. Served aregano infused olive oil and heeded parm with warm loads of bread, it was really tasty. Desserts looked amazing! Birthday boy got a tira misu which looked really good! The meals came out quickly, all were correct and no complaints of flavor. I ordered the shells and light cream sauce with peas and ham and it was delicious! I would like to come back here for a date night sometime. There is a nice selection of wines. My friend lives nearby so we came for early dinner. I have been to the Francescas, and esp like the one in bucktown a lot. So I had great expectation of this one, but the food was just so so overall. It was very salty for one. I ordered a pizza, and was expecting something thin crust like La Madia's, or like Crust's, it was small, and the pizza tasted like a doughy cracker with toppings. My friend had the gnocchi, which was alright. But then how could you make bad gnocchi in general? The italian sausages we ordered on the side had no flavour. One that I got from supermarket probably are more flavourful and juicier than these. The service was ok, they were rushing us for no reason though. The restaurant wasn't full, and there were no people waiting for table, so I don't understand why they quickly collected all the empty plates and stuff... o...well...it was good seeing and hanging out with my friends, but at another place in the area next time. read more

We had a reservation for a Friday night- and were seated in a more private area of the place. We waited about 10 mins after being seated to even be greeted and given water & bread. We were never asked what we wanted to drink, and the waiter rarely checked on us. Even though he wasn't very attentive, he was very nice. The food was great - it looks like they menu is made up daily so we had gone originally because we heard the stuffed peppers were amazing but when we got there it wasn't on the menu I did end up having a wonderful meal with sweet potatoes and baked chicken. read more

Let me just say that I am a fan of every Francesca's I've ever eaten in. The food is always very quality. My favorite thing I've ever had was a special at this location: spinach flatbread. It was garlic sauteed spinach loaded onto a flatbread. So simple, but so amazing! We ate every drop with relish. The food is great & there is a lot of hustle & bustle & energy. The atmosphere is warm inviting. The service is always excellent. The one change I would make is the menus. They xerox menus & fill in the specials in hand-writing. They should just add the specials on a computer & xerox that. The paper menus, while cheap, aren't as bad as the messily hand-writed, fill-in-the blank aspect. I wish I could give more than 5 stars!! Our waiter (I wish I caught his name) was excellent, we had a lovely conversation about the restaurant's history and how he had been working there since 1994. He recommended the masciarelli montepulciano for a red wine and it was great. I ordered the rigatoni con ragu and my partner got the rigatoni alla paesana per our waiter's recommendation, and both dishes were delicious!! As someone in their early 20s, I never expect special treatment since I'm not spending as much as others, but this was not the case at Francesca's. The manager (?) Alfredo came and introduced himself and gave us a complimentary piece of tiramisu and a gift card for next time-- so unexpected and amazingly nice! We're not regulars here but try to make it once or twice a year, this visit was a Saturday night and arrived early- 5 PM Our server was Angie and she was great, never had a problem. We all enjoyed our meals as we usually do. Most of reviews that I read on Yelp seemed to be geared towards slow service- the exact opposite experience we had. As we were leaving at 7PM the place almost full, Why? Because the food is pretty good here. The key to this place is to get here early if you don't have a reservation. There is a lot across the street and on street parking here. The prices are very reasonable for the Specials and entrée's. Enjoy! read more

I catered Thanksgiving dinner from Francesca's in Elmhurst and I've got to tell you it was absolutely the best food I've ever had for this occasion. The order was for 8-10 people and it was more than enough. Everything from the turkey to the gravy to the mashed potatoes was yummy. Decent meal, great service, really nice old fashioned. Let's start with the drinks, I started with an old fashioned like I often do. The Koval Old Fashioned was very nice, pretty much the way I like them, little expensive at $14 but that seems to be the norm these days. Hard to justify two drinks with dinner anymore. My son ordered the Peach concoction, can't remember the name of it, it was quite nice as well, also $14. A little fruity as you would expect but still a real drink, my son enjoyed it. The service was great, our waiter suggested the pizzas as well as Pollo Limone (an off the menu item that I ended up ordering). The pizzas sounded very interesting but I decided to go with the Pollo Limone, which I was quite happy with. Came with a nice Spinach salad drenched in some sort of dark dressing. Sampled a couple of the pasta dishes, both were good I especially liked the one with shrimp and clams. Nice atmosphere, enjoyed the art, great to be in a vibrant downtown area like Elmhurst. The violin shop next door reminded me of how wonderful it is to live in a metropolitan area with so many unique shops. read more

Met a few cousins here for dinner. They serve you fresh bread put the cheese and oils like a good Italian place should. We had order the clam appetizer and it was a winner. The servers and the waiter we're very sweet and friendly. Everyone made sure that we always had drinks filled extra bread if needed or anything else. Have dined here before, including holding a large wedding rehearsal dinner at this restaurant a couple years ago. Chose to dine again, party of 3, celebrating a BD. What happened here? This was utter disappointment. Service= There was none- our waiter was poor at best, curt and unfriendly from the get-go. Never returned to our table during the evening, except to drop off dessert menus & the check. Our table was never bussed between courses, the entrees were delivered & wedged between the dirty app dishes. Ambiance= Uncomfortably loud and hot in our full dining room with a very large group seated in the center of the room. Food= Had the waiter ever returned, I could have reported that my entree was simply bad. Tasted exactly like microwaved leftover stringy chicken and reheated potatoes ($27), sent it to be trashed. No remedy offered. Sadly, we skipped coffee and after dinner conversation. Will not return to this establishment. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I have a friend who is VERY picky. One day we went to 2 other Italian restaurants and walked out of both before ordering. I suggested Francesca's because I knew the food would be amazing and the service impeccable. I was right on both counts. We split an order of gnocchi and shared the Francesca salad. Molto bene! Immense salad with so many ingredients and the gnocchi just melted in our mouths. If you've not been to Francesca's please do. You will be delighted. Very disappointed in this restaurant, I ordered fettuccine braised short ribs , the beef was old and permeated the entire dish when telling the management, they did not like it and disagreed with me. I offered for him to taste or taste from the kitchen, he declined. Sad in this day in age where restaurants complained about losses from Covid they would step up their game.
