Overall (A-) This place is really good and tastes exactly like it did when I last visited. Great safe bet place for Greek Food. Value (B) It is a bit pricey but not too bad around $35/person for lunch for 2 and an appetizer. They have a small plates menu which might be the lunch menu. Service (A) Excellent friendly and polite service. Got the food out fairly fast. And waitstaff was super nice and respectful. Even packed up the leftovers- did a great job Food (A-) I got the combination plate and it tasted exactly how it did 20 years ago. This is both a positive and a negative. Taste was excellent - especially the lamb, meatballs and sauce over the rice and dolmas. Great portion size also. Will get stuff. Came with potatoes and veggies. On the negative it tasted very heavy. I was expecting it to be "lighter". Not sure I am describing it correctly. I am going to order it again as it's excellent but I think I am eating a ton of butter and or oil. Maybe I am not but something gave it the heavy feel. Also with bread service - I appreciate they provide it but feels very 90s. Thr bread was okay and the butter was the small little packages of butter. So I really do like this place and am being overly critical so I would strongly recommend going for a safe bet Greek place. Food excellent! Went on a Sunday at 2pm thinking we would beat the dinner crowd. Nope, place was jammed. But we were seated in less than 10 minutes so all good. Service was good even with the large crowd, a little slow, but fine. Ive always enjoyed dining here, food and service never disappoints. Only negative was, the floors were like walking on an ice rink! Greasy, oily, something but definitely needs a deep cleaning. Lots of older and disabled folks noticed the same thing entering and leaving. Everyone was talking about it so it wasn't only our group. Excessively slipping and sliding from the front door all the way into the dining rooms. I stopped to help several elderly folks having a very difficult time trying not to fall over. Please have the floors cleaned asap. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

I've been coming to Greek Islands for over three decades and primarily started with their original location in the city in Greektown. However, since this Lombard location opened, I think at least a decade ago we've definitely been coming here consistently. Even though I don't put a review of every single time I visit. However, my last review of this place was over four years ago, so I thought it was about time to update this. I still give it a solid four stars because this place is key and king on consistency. If there's one thing you can rely on here is that that same recipe from 10 years ago or 30 years ago is still the same good recipe today. And that is absolutely fantastic. I do believe the portions have gotten slightly smaller over the years and obviously prices have gone up, but this is to be expected. The only downfall of this location is that they never take reservations that if you come during peak hours, you better expect to wait even over and up to an hour. Something else that I've seen really evolved at this place is that when they originally first opened, including the Greektown location, all servers, including bus, boys, etc., were all Greek that has definitely changed now over the years The parking lot here is still very generous however during peak times beware it will be hard to find the parking space and there is no valet. Well, consistency is fantastic. I do wish they had expanded the menu to make lokoumades dessert. It's one of my favorites and they still don't offer it. read more

I come from a Greek family and I'm used to authentic Greek food. I could say involved places around here Greek islands in Lombard, not Chicago, has the most authentic Greek food I have ever tasted. They have excellent service. The ambience provides a feel of as if you are in Greece not to mention even though the waiters who aren't Greek have picked up a lot of Greek language. They have the best octopus there is very tender and it's not like the chewy octopus that you might get at other places and one of my favorites is the Athenian cold plate where you get mixture of Greek items, including cold octopus, cold beets, cold spreads, and other items. Decided to try the restaurant in Lombard as we've been to the one in Chicago. The restaurant is large and seats are spread out which was nice. The saganaki was good. The grilled calamari was soft and not rubbery. The lamb loins were tender and nicely portioned. Service was a slight bit slow but the waiter was nice. read more

What a sad sad place. Ate here for lunch. The floors are all greasy so clearly they don't clean their floors the night before. The window curtains are all stained. The employees all seem to be in a drag. Ordered the saganaki. Our family, except for 1, went to the washroom to wash our hand. Guy came out and lit the cheese on fire for the one family member who was still looking at the menu. The cut pita for dipping was dry. The whole pita that came out with the gyro was better but I've had much better pita elsewhere. Attached is a picture of the Greek salad. That is one sad looking salad. Bottom line: over priced Greek food that is subpar served by employees who don't care in a gross restaurant that is way past its prime. We were a little worried because the people at the front desk were not very friendly or welcoming when we arrived. We went on Halloween around 6:30pm. It wasn't very busy, it just seemed as if they didn't want to be bothered. We almost walked out. Thankfully, we decided to stay and try it out. Our waiter was a different story. He was friendly and warm. We're pretty picky when it comes to Greek food, we grew up with Greek family members, so we're pretty familiar with the cuisine. Everything we had was great! Number one attraction: the tableside flaming saganaki cheese! Very rarely do you get to see this down tableside anymore, but it is so fun and truly adds to the flavor and texture when it's freshly flamed. You can tell that our server had a blast with this as well haha! Overall we love the food here, my parents and I often went to location in Greek Town while I was a student at UIC, so it's nice to have a more accessible location to us out here in the suburbs. The food is just as good as the Greek Town location! I love the gyros here, one of my favorites of the main Greek restaurants in the city. We also enjoyed the spanikopita, hummus, and chicken souvlaki (skewers). It's a true homey Greek restaurant with the expected decor and style, but I wouldn't have it any other way! read more

Great ambiance and service. We stopped by here while in town with family members that go regularly. We ended up getting a bunch of appetizers and desserts to split amongst our group. The Tzatziki with pita, Skordalia with Fried Zucchinni, Flaming Saganaki Cheese, Seafood Kabobs, Dolmades, House Salad with Gyro meat and the Greek Islands Special dessert were all incredible. The Spanakotiropita was hands down one of my favorite dishes of the evening as well as the Affogato to end the evening. The food was great. I had the chicken gyros for entree with orzo. Fantastic but a little over seasoned. My daughter had the hand made gyros which were great too. Husband had a dish I could not pronounce but was awesome. Appetizers we had the sweet peppers and saganaki. Desert we had tiramisu and baklava. The service was amazing. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and was in the area on a Saturday night when the time finally came. When we pulled into the parking lot, the place was packed. We parked pretty far away and when we walked inside there were people everywhere, but somehow when we reached the hostess there was only a 5-15 minute wait. There is a lot of space inside and it seemed like the perfect fit for everyone - families with young kids, older couples, larger get together, etc. The menu is huge and was a bit intimidating to decide. We started with the flaming saganaki cheese and hot lima beans appetizers which were both so good! The flaming saganaki was definitely a crowd favorite with the presentation. Those two appetizers (along with the complimentary bread) actually filled us up pretty well so we split an entree. We chose something of the special menu which was chunks of lamb mixed with orzo inside a clay pot. It was so good and the lamb was the most tender thing I've ever had. Lots of delicious food. First time visiting Greek island! We were seated right away. We tried several dishes that included the village salad dolmades, Greek chicken and stuffed peppers. All of the dishes were pretty tasty. Service was pretty good, Maria was our waitress she was attentive and nice. Cozy atmosphere you can dress casual or dress up. I got a sweet alcohol drink and as most people want them strong i thought it was too strong but that's a personal preference. Overall satisfied with the experience. I have been to the city location but why have I not been to this one that's closer to home?! So glad I was finally able to check out this location! It was what seemed like a pretty busy Saturday night. They do not take reservations and it is first come first serve basis. We didn't wait long, we were told 30 minute wait for 3 people. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at their table. Everyone was chill, no one seemed like they were in a rush. My friends and I all shared everything. I ordered a avgolemono soup because I'm notorious for ordering soup everywhere. We got grilled octopus, spinach cheese pie, Mediterranean chicken breast, beef tenderloin shishkabob. It came with rice, potato, and vegetables. Everything was delicious! We were so full, but of course, there's always room for dessert. We decided on tiramisu.... And finished it. I have never had a bad meal here, no matter what day of the week or what time of the year. In fact, this place always shines. Everything, from the relaxing and warm interior, the top-notch service, and the extensive, authentic menu and generous portions all make for an experience that never disappoints. We had a group of 13 and a baby. The staff was so accommodating I called ahead and they said they would try to get us on time but we could wait 10-20 minutes. They got us on time we were celebrating 2 of my siblings birthdays. We started out with saganaki it was delicious. Then main course a lot of us got the Mediterranean chicken progy white fish spaghetti chicken and shrimp. Everything was delicious and waiter and waitress was very happy and friendly. It's always a nice experience. Service is always very good. I love lamb shank and they are one of the few places around that have it. They do a good job with a tomato sauce. Everything here tasted delicious. We ordered the pastichio, which tasted really good my dad said "lasagna" but it had a fall flavor to it that was different which reminded me of pie idk if it was pumpkin, clove or nutmeg in it, so don't order this thinking you're getting a classic lasagna like me the lamb chops are seriously the best lamb I've ever had and I wish more people cooked them perfectly like how they do here. The fat is delicious on it and it's perfectly salted. I also ordered the Avgolemono creamy chicken and lemon soup which was delicious on the rainy day. We also had Roditis rose which paired perfectly. We ended it with tiramisu and another cake Im not sure if the name. Jose was our server, he said he's been working here for 17 years and he was very kind and helpful. Over the atmosphere was clean, not too loud of music, low lighting, nicer dressed. Restaurant was bright and airy in the dining room but there are other areas around the bar that seemed a bit dark. Bathrooms were clean. Overall it was nice inside, if a bit dated. Reminded me of a Greek version of Olive Garden. Prices were a bit higher than I would've expected, epically considering we were there on a week day at lunch. The soup offers were the lemon cream of chicken and rice or lentil I think it was, not sure. I ordered Chicken Riganati and the lemony chicken soup. It was def lemony! Not quite my thing since I don't like sour/tangy soups. I didn't see any chicken in there. Then I was served a broasted chicken leg. And that's it. In the main entre listing for Chicken Riganati, it says served with rice and potatoes or briami. All I got was a cup of soup and a chicken leg/thigh. I expected SOMETHING else with that, either the rice, potato or some sort of vegetable!! My husband ordered an apple spinach salad with balsamic dressing and added gyro chicken. The menu is confusing as to the added price for proteins. I think the cost ended up being $20, but it was very good. The gyro chicken meat was too dry and over cooked for me, but my husband likes it that way. It just looked like pan fried chicken breast to me. Service was ok. About 4 people ordered the flaming saganaki near us and it was a bit too close to me, since I could feel the heat from the flames. And it's annoying when we're trying to have a discussion with lunch and interrupted with that. If you pick off the lunch menu you can get away with around $20 pp but anything else and it's close to $30 pp. read more

Had lunch here on 2/17. For two people no drinks just water the total was $75, for a Tuesday lunch. I did not eat my entree salad so I asked them to package it to go. Well, imagine my surprise when I got it home and HALF of it was gone. They took the block of feta and half the damn salad. If you're looking for a spot that makes you feel at home the second you walk in, has excellent service and delicious high quality Greek food - Greek Islands is it!! They do not take reservations however this place is massive so no need to expect a very long wait time during the week. I was here with a group of 5 on a weekday around 630pm and was given a 20 min wait time. Within 3 mins we were seated lol. We had Panayi as our server and he was friendly, attentive and truly made us feel at home. Our drinks, apps, mains and dessert orders were taken/ timed out very well. No awkward waits in between courses and he checked in the perfect amount. He is extremely friendly and has great energy - made us want to pull another chair up to join us! Such a great person to have in the restaurant industry. I'd request to be in his area for the next time. I've been coming here for 10+ years and my go tos are the calamari and saganaki to start, broiled salmon or lamb chops for my main and the Greek traditional cake for dessert. Flavorful, cooked to perfection and are my favorite authentic Greek items. This is a very traditional Greek establishment with blue and white decor throughout.
