I have shopped for years at Francesca stores in multiple store locations but I took my young nieces to shop in La Jolla and we stopped in and put a large order together but the computer was down at checkout. The initial employee was very apologetic and we were in no hurry but she insisted on holding our items and would not let me leave any form of payment but promised to call when the computers were working. We even went to lunch and came back because it was a graduation shopping trip for the girls and they really liked their items. No one ever called and when I phoned back less than 48 hours later I was told someone had called about all the orders on hold and if you didn't show up immediately your items were put back on the shelf. I double checked my phone and there were no missed calls or messages. It's sad that no one can use a calculator and take cash for sales when this happens and that a company doesn't care about the sale of merchandise. This was one of my favorite stores for 20+ years but I will never go back to any location because the manager in La Jolla was so rude when I called and did not care about making this sale or that it was a missed opportunity. read more

They need to get a major reality check since this is barely a step above swap meet scraps. I got pretty womaned at this store. I went in to look around because I saw some cute items in the window. After I entered, no one welcomed me. No big deal but then I realized they were not only welcoming everyone else that walked in the store, but asked them about their day and what their plans were. The lady finishes talking to some wealthy looking ladies that came in, looks at me, and walks away. It's pretty obvious they profiled me as someone who looked poor. Went in to return an online purchase on a non-busy weekday with one other customer in the shop. Staff refused to accept the return, saying it was too much work to enter in the information and I should do it online instead. This is completely against the Francescas.com policy, which clearly states that items purchased online may be returned to brick & mortar locations. Stopped by more than 30 minutes before their post ed closing time. The two employees were leaving the store with clothes in their hands when I mentioned that I was surprised the door was locked as Yelp says they're open till 9 PM. The Asian girl exclaimed when I asked her about the closing time "that is corporate's responsibility not mine" They both laughed walked by me, locked the door and left. Normally I would've just let this go but in the past a friend of mine got a real hassle about returning an item that clearly should have been returned or exchanged. Oh I LOVED this store! If I could spend the entire weekend here, I would!! Spent a couple of hours browsing and picked up some GREAT jewelry pieces and a nice dress too! It is pricey - yes, but I knew about it. Also, their jewelry pieces are SO different and unique, you will not mind spending on that occasional pretty bit of color to go with a dress! :) Service was great - one of the girls helped me make a choice when I was confused.. the store layout is great too.. it's small, but pretty well organized. Today I went into this location and was assisted by someone named Sarita. She was very rude in regards to my returns. She asked me more than once on why I was returning them and when I proceeded to tell her for the second time that I just didn't like how the items looked on me she gave me attitude telling me that "well why these are different sizes." She also proceeded to not refund me due to an item that didn't have a tag, but on their site it is not mentioned in their return policy that this will make the item ineligible for a return, especially when the item was purchased without that tag originally. Don't understand why they give you such a hard time to return items. All the items weren't even used besides me trying them on. Stores shouldn't have such people with bad customer service. read more

I really like this place...if I want to treat myself to a day of shopping, I make the drive out to La Jolla Cove. I would this place on a whim...walking ahead one night in order to give my friend some privacy to smooch her new beau and my eye caught the cutest little dance skirt hanging in the window. Well, I went back and bought it a few days later. That was at least four years ago, and I still shop there. This store has been primarily filled with accessories and gifts with a few racks of clothing hanging around the sides and back of the store. Recently, several more racks were added. I love almost everything there! First, it is colorful and originial. Second, it is no more expensive than (sometimes cheaper) than going to a run-of-the-mill mall store. Finally, the clothes are perfect for a girly girl like myself. I bought a favorite pair of stilettos and a favorite mini there...tons of compliments on both. Besides the clothing, they have great gifts. I have bought purses, perfumes, candles, colorful match boxes and holiday ornaments. The reason I cannot give four stars...I'm a pretty skinny girl. Sometimes they do not carry my size. I have to have them undress the manequins so that I can have a small and at times the small isn't truely a small. But...that is my only critique. read more

(About 2 pm) She was nice and genuinely had conversations with every single customer. She was alone and made sure to talk to everyone. Five stars just for her! The manager Catherine at this location is extremely aggressive, loud and dismissive. Completely unwilling right off the bat to assist a frequent customer. Luckily, I was able to find great cover ups here at Francesca's and they were all on sale (winning)! Not only am I giving them 5 stars for great deals but service was great too. A sales rep helped me find cover ups and even brought more from the back for me to chose from. She got me a room started and checked in to see how I was doing. I feel bad because I thought they closed at nine (that's what the yelp listing says) but they really close at 8! So I'm sorry that they had to stay over-time while I finished up. Someone should change the listing on yelp. Anyhow, I did apologize and the representative was cool about it. I'm so grateful for her help. Great shop for summer clothes and helpful staff to boot. I went in looking for fun outfits to take on vacation and was not disappointed. Great styles, good prices and Vanessa the Manager will style you from head to toe. She has a great eye and I now consider her my own personal stylist! The staff here are helpful, but not pushy. I have to admit, I don't like unsolicited advice, but I did need help trying to pump up the glam factor for some swanky dinners that were planned. There is plenty of affordable GLAM inventory, and I loved that you could get a whole put together look from head to toe. Vanessa was right there to offer great suggestions, and I ended up leaving a happy customer! I can love a store for the clothes, but never go back if the service is bad. cute items and not too pricey for la jolla. i liked the crochet head bands near the front. they were girly and trendy. the earrings however looked a bit cheap in quality. the sales stuff had the ever popular moustache items like metal flasks with printed moustaches. my friend found some adorable crochet sandals that was perfect for an event - love! like other yelpers mentioned, the service level needs to pick up. no one served us and i was helping out my friend with finding her shoe size like i was working there. sheesh. tip: 2 weeks to return and 30 days for store credit. read more

I first was pulled into the store lured by a very cute bright yellow dress on display in the window...it was so eye catching and cute! I couldn't resist going in to check it out. I browsed around the store...this being my first time in there ever... Saw cute trinkets from jewelry to watches to sunglasses. Further past those smaller items you get to the clothes. I must say they have nice clothes, However............. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE always gets to me =( 1) I was never greeted upon entering store 2) As I shopped around the shop...no one asked if I needed assistance... still I pushed forward and continued to check out the dresses (heh, I love dresses!) I found about 5 dresses I fancied and alone found the dressing room in the back...it's not a big place at all so finding it wasn't hard. Still NO ONE not a single employee said anything to me. Ok, so I'm new to Cali and I've been here about 5 months. There was a Francesca's in Long Beach and was there all the time spending, spending, spending. Then I moved down here and decided to take two friends to the one in La Jolla, because I'm such a fan of the store. So, we were probably in the store for at least 35 minutes and the first thing any of the sales associates said to us was "Your total is $84 dollars". Now here's the deal, I don't need anyone helping me with my fashion sense but my goodness ladies, a simple "Hello" when we walk in the store or to check in with us while we are deciding to spend our hard earned money in your store would be nice. So to be honest, I was super bummed about this visit. Francesca's is an event in itself! This place is a girl's heaven...with tons of jewelry, gifts, clothes, good smelling things. My sister and I literally get giddy when we get to go here. They have some decent prices...much cheaper than the rest of La Jolla and you can find some unique items. I seem to end up going to Francesca's when I am in La Jolla for other situations....dinner, etc., but you really could make the trip just to go. And PS....there are locations in Chicago and there is one in Carlsbad as well. read more

It is a jewel of a shop in La Jolla. The location couldn't be sweeter and the selection is pretty comprehensive. Francesca's sells various kinds of jewelry --- the style of the shop can best be described as upscale bohemian, but the store is certainly more affordable than most of the boutiques in La Jolla. Francesca's has an elaborate selection of earnings, bracelets and necklaces. There are some great finds in the shop, and most of the jewelry runs around $20. A girl can spend hours combing through the earnings alone, but the store sells various kinds of accessories and clothes as well. The stylesof the clothing is pretty cute, but it is more geared towards shoppers 25 and older. Francesca's is a great place to stop by if you are hanging out in La Jolla and you need to buy a last minute gift or if there is just one thing that you think your outfit is missing. Making a trip to Francesca's could never be a terrible idea. There are plenty of other boutiques near by and the beach is just steps away. read more

I never forget to stop by this place when I'm in downtown La Jolla. I have always gotten good customer service here, so I can't relate to the other reviewers. Anyway, the selection of clothes / jewelry / trinkets are always adorable and reasonably priced. This place is great for gifts, especially for girls / women of any ages. It is so much cheaper than other boutiques in the area, with the exception of Pink Zone of course. Loooove this place! I think its summer / spring clothes are cuter than its selection of winter / fall clothes, though. Personal preference of course, though. read more

i used to live in long beach and always went to the francesca's in belmont shore. it was a tiny place but i was always able to find something. the girls there were extrememly friendly and helpful. just moved back down to san diego and it was such a disappointment when i went into the location in la jolla. went in on sunday...a super busy and gorgeous day. they had a ton of great things, but as i walked in, browsed around for about 15 minutes, not once did the girls (a total of 3) say hello or asked if i needed help. they just stood there behind the counter and gossiped endlessly. nor did they acknowledge anyone else that went in. i was there long enough to hear their conversation about their friendship issues. i was truly disappointed and won't be going back...unless they hire more mature ladies. all i ask if for a friendly hello and i'm your customer for life. one positive is that the store is adorable as always...but why give them money if there are a ton of other stores just like this one? read more

This place has super cute jewelry at good prices. Most of the jewelry I get complimented on comes from here. The clothing, however, is NOT flattering. Pretty much everything they sell here is baggy/frumpy and makes me look 15 pounds heavier. I really want to like the clothes but nothing i've ever tried on here has looked good. And i'm here a lot. This is my favorite little jewelry shop. As far as La Jolla goes, the prices are decent, but then again, you're not buying diamonds here. The girls have never been rude to me and when I have asked, I have found them to be helpful. The Spot next door is my favorite restaurant and I am always disappointed when Francesca's is already closed when I am done with dinner, but it makes it that much more exciting when I do get to go.
