I've been an Anthropologie customer for almost two decades... today, I stopped in to check out their fall merch. The store was nicely organized & there were lots of cute clothing items. They're heavily promoting their Maeve brand. They also had a little shoe feature which I hadn't seen before. I checked out the sale items & they had a good selection, but nothing caught my eye. Then as I was poking around the Maeve section, I noticed a really cute white button down with embroidered horses on it. Then I spotted a couple of sweaters with a horse motif, some really adorable red trousers & a red shirt that said "Ciao Bella". I brought the goods into the changing room, and ultimately decided on the white blouse with the horses. I was happy to note that there is a 20% discount for students and teachers as well. Anthropologie skews on the higher end for everything from clothes, to candles, to toiletries & costume jewelry. Prices get a little better for sale items, but most of the time, everything is still pricey. Anthropologie's clothes do tend to be well-made and quality on the whole & when building or curating your wardrobe, you can find some pieces that will be favorites for years to come. Walking through Anthropologie, poisoning myself with the toxic fumes they pump into the store to make it smell like a sugar cookie crack den and developing a horrible migraine from it, I spotted a beautiful jacket. Suede... lined with shearling, with more shearling on the cuffs and collar. Designed by Mother, $450. I wanted to take it home with me. Then I checked the label... 100% polyester. Anthropologie, what on earth are you doing selling an almost $500 after taxes jacket that's made of plastic??? I walked around and so many things were a similar circumstance. Who is curating these stores?? People don't come into Anthropologie to buy trash bags and get a headache and burning lungs from air freshener or whatever it is they pump into the air. Bring back the integrity of the store. Otherwise, you're just a severely overpriced SHEIN, Temu, Amazon. The girls who worn here are always nice though, not their fault corporate is ruining the brand. read more

A Yelpie friend had shopped in Anthropologie at another mall. I've been curious as to what it sells because I find their store name very intriguing and unique. I was at Westfield University Town Center (UTC) and happened to see Anthropologie so I had to come in here to find out. Well, it's basically a clothing store with some knick knacks of decor and household goods. I find the clothing designs to be ultra hip. It's not quite my clothing style, but I can see how it gives a slick and smooth appeal. Love the colors! I spent some time perusing the perimeter. I normally don't look at the staff unless I have to ask them a question. Funny, I found myself being looked at LOL. Maybe the wardrobe I was wearing at the time speaks its own style and uniqueness that didn't fit with Anthropologie's brand. It's all good. I don't take offense. They can look all they want. I went into Anthropologie specifically looking to buy a dress on Sunday at 6:50pm at the packed UTC mall during a holiday weekend. I was not expecting my first greeting to be "welcome, we close in 10 minutes" music shut off throughout the store and employees busy folding clothes to shut down. Barely a few minutes after 7pm when I had just found my size in the $250- dress I was going to purchase, (with no help from an employee), what appeared to be the salesperson in charge abruptly and abrasively came up to me, looked me square in the face and said "we are closed now". I asked her you don't want my money to purchase this dress? and her answer was "registers are closed and we can't ring you up". The approach was so appalling as was the entire experience. I am floored employees would treat customers like this and rush you out even before closing time. I managed a boutique clothing store throughout college and I trained my retail sales people to kindly let customers know we just closed, to help that customer finalize their selections and give them a chance to close out the evening with their purchase. I currently own a successful business and the only reason we are in business is because of our clients. Needless to say, I will never spend my money to this company again. read more

BEWARE completing returns here! I had a large number of items to return, around 10 items (I bought a lot online using my birthday discount, including clothes and a bedding set I didn't end up liking). After receiving the return receipt, I walked around the store thinking huh it's definitely missing something. I went back up and a more senior associate urged the associate who had completed the return to double check the number of items being returned. A quilt had not made it onto the receipt. Weeks passed and I had not received the credit back on my card. I kept pinging Anthro customer service by email (I could not find a phone number) and they refused to meaningfully assist. I went to the store and a nice manager tried to pull the items in the computer and manually push through the items for which I had proof I had returned. She admitted the register has done this before and if she could not fix the problem, to initiate a chargeback with my bank. After waiting a long period of time and again trying to contact Anthro to no avail showing my receipts, I initiated a chargeback for the $800 something I was owed. Anthro then blocked me from further purchases. After going back and forth with their dispute resolution team I was finally put in touch with, I got the money I initiated the chargeback for from the bank, only to realize- surprise- one additional item I returned never made the original receipt and I was out ~$200. I offered to waive this impasse if they would unblock me since I still love their clothes. The customer service from corporate was APPALLING. Whether it's the UTC associates' lack of training or the register's malfunction, this was a stressful situation that spanned MONTHS. I still feel like I am owed an apology for doing what any reasonable customer would. Instead, I was gaslighted. Bottom line: check your return receipt and banking account scrupulously and never return multiple items at once at the UTC location! read more

ONE OF THE BEST SHOPPING EXPERIENCES EVER!! I don't think I have ever - and I mean EVER - written a review for a clothing store. However, after today's amazing experience, I just had to share my positive experience! Now, truth be told, it was all because of the BEST SALESPERSON EVER (insert about 10 stars here because 5 isn't enough)! Her name is Dev and she is just the sweetest, kindest, warmest, most patient and GENUINE CARING person! She knew the store so well and really kept asking me all about what I was looking for, how she could help, showing me new things I might not have seen and just overall T H E B E S T!!! Yes - I wound up spending quite a bit (not hard to do at Anthropologie) - but it was all because Dev really wanted to make sure I had some "capsule" items as well as items I was looking for my upcoming European trip. I went to the store to buy the Ten Over Ten burgundy nail polish. Because it was not available in store, the manager helped process a credit card order for home delivery. Four days later, the order arrived. It was pink nail polish. I drove to the store again to process an exchange. The cashier processed the exchange for home delivery, but she said it would be easier for her to do it as a gift card exchange. She converted the original credit card payment into a gift card and placed the new order with that gift card. The nail polish arrived eight days later in a ridiculously big box, large enough to fit a pair of tall boots (I have a photo). But it was also the wrong color. Pink again. I mailed back the pink nail polish and requested a refund. Customer service told me they could not refund my money and to reach out to the manager because of the way the cashier processed the exchange by converting my credit card purchase into a gift card. Two wrong orders later, and no burgundy nail polish in sight, they sent me a gift card instead of returning my money. I called the store manager and she offered to email me a 20% discount on a future purchase for all the trouble. Still waiting. Don't get me wrong, I didn't ask for a discount. What I asked for is a full refund for a product I never received. I do not want a gift card. read more

I had to do an exchange for some Christmas gifts I received. I was immediately greeted with kindness and warmth from the whole staff. Leonara, the manager, was both solution-solving and creative in finding out how to address a quality issue. I was so impressed with her leadership and guidance. UTC has started to become one of my favorite places to shop, I appreciate that they have such a large Anthropologie. I came here last Thursday with my husband and our pups, I knew that Anthro was having a sale and even though I had shopped at the Fashion Valley location I had to see what offerings the UTC location had. This store is pretty, organized and just feels super welcoming, the store had an additional 50% off of their clearance and I only managed to snag a candle and a sugar bowl for under $20. At check out the cashier made sure to tape my items shut and wrapped them up in tissue paper as they were really fragile. I really appreciate that. read more

Big fan of Anthro! My wishlist/basket is always full! This location is my favorite because it's only minutes away from where I live (while in S.D.) and conveniently located to where I always park (I'm a creature of habit and I always park in the SAME lot at this mall). It's an easy IN and out. Friendly, helpful staff! Huge selection and inventory always updated. Love, love, LOVE this shop! Their candles, housewares, accessories...pretty much everything! It's a little pricey and items rarely go on sale but when they do it goes quick. Sign up for their rewards program online as well. I've never actually gotten anything from the actual program but I get all those sometimes annoying but so tempting emails announcing sales and new products. Additionally this location is one of a very few locations that carry petite sizes. NOT all stores carry a petite line. Super friendly staff. read more

The return that I sent to the store two weeks had some system glitch. The refund didn't go through for two weeks. I called the corporation customer service. They kept telling me to wait. I got frustrated. Then I decided to call the store. The manager Leonora who answered my call was very nice and patient. She helped me to solve the refund issue. Really appreciate it! read more

I absolutely love this store. The clothes are always unique and cutting edge, even though I don't need cutting edge. It's just nice to walk around the store and pick out things you can't get anywhere else. I'd literally drive 30 minutes to shop here, I love their soft button down shirts. I own several, not cheap at all, but if you wash them correctly and hang dry you reap the rewards of always having something interesting to wear! I also love the gals in the dressing rooms. They try hard to be right there for you in case you need another size or color. Can't say enough great things about this store! read more

Is it fair to review a store you don't frequent? I would say yes because its a good way to let your girl friends know about a place. A good friend from work loves this place, she gets the catalog, the store is near work and she loves the vibe. Personally, anyone of the male persuasion could not find anything here for themselves unless they were interested in dishes, aprons(for women) etc. The appeal is to a young to middle age bohemian. Plenty of colors, quirky items and of course lots of dresses. Being a card carrying homosexual, I need two more recruits before I get a set of dishes, so if your brother or bf likes to shop here then let me have a talk with him Those dishes would look great for the Oscars party. Back to the store review. I do like the colors and the variety of items but they have their stuff spread around even if they are related. On one side of the store, you have dishes, placemats etc and the other side you had to look for the dish towels and other kitchen items. I guess when you want to spread it out in a big store, this is the way to do it. If Anthropologie starts carrying more items for men, maybe it will be worth a visit. The items are fairly expensive. I don't need a 24 dollar plate (1 only) but if you help me recruit 2 more guys to be a card carrying Gay then I don't need to buy dishes here, do I? read more

Anthropologie is the house I would love to live in...impeccable bedding, kitchen supplies, heavenly smelling candles, rustic vintage furniture, a French accent in every corner and detail...and this is their best store in San Diego. Super inventive and creative window decorations (i always think that is one of the most important jobs in a shop, the window dressing part, to attract customers, and here they do very efficiently). If you crave French inspired gifts, you will find here from books to little trinkets that will make you dream. Also, if you are into creating cool selfies for your Facebook or Yelp profiles...they have the best faux paints and paper decorated walls, so do not hesitate...the girls working there do not mind at all, I am here to tell! read more

I actually prefer the customer service at this UTC location more so than their Fashion Valley location. The girls here have always been helpful. Maybe they don't all come up to you to ask if you need help. But when you're trying on clothes, I feel they are really helpful and honest w/ their opinions. I don't remember the awesome managers name from Oct when I shopped there. But I told her it was my bday month but hadn't received the bday coupon from them. She said she'll check my account to see if I've used the discount and if I haven't, she'd give me the extra 15% bday discount that I deserved :) I wanted to make an online purchase b/c they have a better selection. But I couldn't get past the shipping fee of $15.95. Called the UTC store for help and Bianca, the girl who picked up phone, gladly helped me. She was able to order a few items for me over the phone and waive the shipping charge! Thank you Bianca! For you people that love smelling things, THIS is THE store to be in. My friends make fun of me b/c every time i step into their store, I go from candle to candle taking a whiff of the scent. I'm obsessed w/ this one specific candle - Goji Berry. I rarely pay full price for ANY candle but this candle, hands down, is my FAVORITE scented candle ever. Their sale section is located in the back right hand corner of the store. They may not always have a huge selection but it's worth a look. When I have paid full price for a dress or item there, I am always happy with what I walk out with. They truly have some beautiful items there. Especially their dresses. This is a store where you can make out like a Bandit if you find the right sale items coupled with an additional (whatever) percentage off they're offering that day/week. This store has a lot of cute candles, hair accessories, and stationaries... and super cute mugs!! In fact, checking out their mugs and stationaries was what brought me into the store after picking up some stuff from Sephora. The clothes however, is a hit and missed. I think it's targeting moms and grandma's...older adult population in general and you can kinda tell standing in line waiting, which by the way is kinda long and the cashiers are always SUPER SLOW!!! As in snail pace. Like in slow motion. I'm not sure why. They're not the friendliest either. I wouldn't say I wouldn't recommend this store because they do have cute mugs, candles and stationaries for gifts, but the service is slow and terrible. If you're looking for birthday and Christmas gifts for mom and grandma, this is your store!! Been here a few times and I have to mention that I love the sofa in their fitting room! This place is very comfortable and welcoming. All sorts of things for home or work (women). The staff are friendly and courteous. It's only a few steps from the parking lot and the air conditioning is always on full blast. I don't mind it when my wife takes her time shopping here as I connect to their wifi and surf the web. read more

Drive to the UTC location because fashion valley did not have the size my mom was looking for. This location is definitely the most friendly and welcoming in San Diego. Kaley and especially Audrey in the fitting room went out of their way to search through the entire store trying to find the size for my mom. They were also very helpful in assisting my girlfriend with her purchase, whereas at Fashion Valley Anthropology, the staff simply told my mom to go and find the size herself. Will definitely return to the UTC location for future visits. read more

Anthropologie is my safe haven and has been for well over 27 years. I first found them in Newport's Fashion Island and fell head over heels. This is my 2nd go to location since I moved back to SD because FV is closer however they have a larger sale selection. The ladies who work here are always so helpful, kind, and go above and beyond customer service. The store has just recently reopened and has shorter hours due to Covid-19 so call ahead instead of relying on the website. Also they close the dressing rooms 30 minutes prior to closing to sanitize it. Please be kind to everyone working especially in retail. read more

I am a huge fan of Anthropologie's candles, and frequently return to see what they have for the season. Overall, pricing is pretty high for their clothing so I go in mainly for their accessories/candles/and sales items but their quality is fairly consistent and most of their items are very unique and handmade. The staff is fairly friendly, however I ended up waiting almost 20 minutes (18 minutes to be exact) to purchase one candle. There were 3 people in line and 1 cued up at the cash register, with only ONE cashier ringing up purchases. There were perhaps 6 other customers in the whole store with many associates tidying things up rather than helping with the line. It's a little ridiculous that I'd have to wait that long when there are clearly other employees in the store that could help relieve the line...I had multiple employees inform me that they'd be with me in just a moment, but instead of putting away clothes or simply informing me that their ONE cashier would be with in a moment, it'd be more helpful if they actually jumped on the line them self... Overall, the shopping experience wasn't there for me and I'd rather purchase items from their online store. read more

Then, I only had to drive to Orange County... and then, oh blessings, only Carlsbad. From your vintage-inspired dresses, girlish tops, and smart separates, I have never walked out empty-handed. Now you're in UTC which is mere minutes from my workplace...my prayers have been answered! And this location even has SHOES!! I echo Tanya's review tho, to be careful what you wish for... with Anthropologie popping up all over town, there's more risk of seeing your outfit's twin at the next bar/club/dinner you're at. Boo. Just gotta be more creative in the styling of pieces, I guess! Despite what most of the reviews say, I am actually pleased with the customer service here. I have never been into an Anthro with horrible service and this is one of my all time favorite stores for everything. They are always accommodating when I need to get something in another size, color, or look up inventory from another store. The associates are always greeting me and acknowledging my presence. They even remember my little pup Cooper everytime when we come in. He's even had a couple of oppsies in there and it has never been a problem for them to assist me in cleaning up and assuring it's no problem. I highly recommend checking this store out and for all the negetive customer service reviews, maybe try coming in again! Might of just caught one associate on a bad day. Highly reccomend their Volcano candle for your home. I constantly keep purchasing that candle from here everytime mine runs out. It lasts forever and is a great gift! Taking -1 star OFF because they are on the smaller end of most ANTHRO stores and could have more furniture or home selection items. read more

Holy retail nirvana, Batman! I'm very impressed by this store. It's as good, or better, than the Carlsbad and Chula Vista locations, and it's not out in the boonies! The real test of an Anthro location is the sale room, and this one was TO.DIE.FOR. It was well-organized by color, with nearly every item available in a range of sizes. The selection of sale items was amazing and best of all, the room was nearly empty - no more fighting fellow shoppers for that last size 2! If you like Anthro's duds but hate the prices, you will be in heaven. Lots of good deals here. The rest of the store is lots of fun, too, whether you're buying or just browsing. The staff is friendly and helpful, even when I hauled about 30 pieces into the dressing room. Definitely stop by if you're a fan of Anthro's brand of faux-quaintness. read more

I first discovered Anthropologie clothing when I first purchased via online their retro yet modern, feminine apron for cooking. When I first walked into this store, I thought this place can do well in this location for being in UTC where all the business people & yuppies like me would consider shopping at. The clothing style is relaxed, casual, feminine & a little different style in the details of the structures of their clothing. You will find tops and blouses with unique details that you won't find at other places, perhaps this is why it's more pricey. The quality of their cotton jersey dresses are far superior to Express, competitive with JCrew at times. However, I wasn't impressed with their jewelry selection, the online store has a much better selection. A good alternative to my other fav clothing store such as JCrew. read more

How can you not love this store? Whimsical, cozy, those darn candles always make the place smell amazing. I love that they constantly rotate the setup so it always feels like a new store walking in. I was in over the weekend shopping for a dress for a special event, and Deb went above and beyond in assisting with finding a dress. This became my new favorite location. read more
