Frangelli's is a fine bakery, but I won't be making any grand effort to return. The jelly donut was universally disliked in my house, which is not normal. They actually went into the trash can after tasting. :( The Frannoli was OK, but really more of a dessert item than a breakfast donut. It was just too sweet to go with our morning coffee. The classic/plain donuts (like the chocolate frosted and cronut) were our favorites, but no better than any other local bakery. I think if you live in the area, this is a good option for your sweet treats. But as a DelCo resident, I will likely not patronize this business again. read more

This place is more Doughnut shop than a real Italian bakery. Doughnuts take up 70% of the display case. We purchased a variety of them - The jelly and bavarian cream are filled on the spot and are outstanding. The other ones were good but nothing to jump up and down over. The cakes in the refrigerated case looked great but we did not try them. Try Frangelli's for an old school Jelly doughnut , otherwise I wouldn't make a special trip here again. read more

While Frangelli's hosts a long donut and Italian pastry lineup, it is perhaps best known for the "Franolli": a powdered donut piped with chocolate-chip cannoli cream. An off-white sign hangs from the townhouse over the corner shop, and the windows are outfitted with custom tricolor neon signs. Expect a queue on the weekend, as the line trails out the door. The large donut-and-pastry display highlights an otherwise tiny and austere room. The walls are painted a dull salmon pink, and warm lights hang from the ceiling. A refrigerator filled with cakes is pressed against the exposed-brick wall in the back, and a self-pour coffee station is nestled next to the west-side window. I arrived early afternoon on a Saturday, and, after a 5-minute wait, I snagged one of the day's final Franollis. OMG Phillys best bakery and it's not close. There is simply no way to go wrong. Most recent visit was for Franollis (amazing cannoli donuts) and Easter bread. Having been here numerous times over the years, now less frequently as I'm 3000 miles from the deliciousness, it's always my first stop after landing at PHL. I must say that the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Also everything is so affordable. We got 8 items for $15. Everything looked amazing and we ended up ordering a variety of things. I was so excited to see George Washington cake and Jewish apple cake as both are favorites from my dad's childhood and it can be hard to find these days. We ordered a slice of those 2 cakes, 1 jelly filled donut and 2 cream donuts, a coconut donut, frannoli, cinnamon cheese crumb roll, and an apple danish. The donuts are filled with the cream to order. Sadly, although everything looked delicious, once we sampled everything, it was pretty disappointing. Flavors were extremely lacking. The crumb cake was dry and had no cheese, the George Washington cake crumbled and the icing separated from it, the donuts were just okay. Absolutely worth going for the eclairs, cinnamon rolls, and some of the donuts. Classic donut was pretty good as well as oreo donut. But my favorites for now are eclairs and cinnamon rolls! They don't have coffee, and they also do not have knowledgeable and friendly staff. It's more of a in and out spot, which is fine I guess. Hosted a donut tasting (with rating sheets and all!) for some friends. Frangelli's was their choice for donuts. We only rated the glazed for the tasting and those were, sadly, not my favorite. The donut was tasty, but there just wasn't enough glaze and/or the glaze was too thin. You can tell these will hold up well when filled though! Glazed just might not be their thing and that's okay. The vanilla frosted and chocolate frosted made up and some for the lacking glazed. The vanilla frosted might have been an old fashioned (maybe?). Whatever it was, it was very good. Friendly staff, sweet yet subtle bakery goods which was perfect! I got the cannoli donut, fresh jelly donut, and cinnamon roll. I really, really wanted the cinnamon bun as everyone recommended but it only comes in bundle of 3, which I wouldn't have been able to finish. Really wish they sold individual ones! Frangelli's is easily one of the best donut spots in the city if not on the east coast. The donuts are fat, perfectly chewy, and out of this world flavorful, and all for $1.25 which you cannot beat for size and flavor. Most other spots are charging a dollar for a donut half this size. The only place that rivals Frangelli's as far as size and taste is Heirs (Baker Bros now I think) but they don't do specialty flavors as shown here, they are more of a standards type place.
