I used to work right across the street from here and you can smell the sugar down the road. Their apple fritters are to die for dipped in a hot coffee on a cold, slushy day. Off the beaten path but a solid hole-in-the wall for donuts, breakfast sandos, and snackies if you're in the area or passing through. Staff is so kind, prices are incredibly reasonable (in this economy!!). 5$ minimum for a credit card - they have an ATM on site but just suck it up and spend the 5 bucks and save a donut for later. read more

Stayed in the neighborhood over Memorial Day weekend and this place was our go-to breakfast spot. All of it is delicious. Listen to the reviews--get the fritters and the crullers! Pro-tip: get their iced coffee black and add your own milk and sugar. They make their coffees light and sweet, so it made sense for me to get their iced coffee and just add creamer at the Airbnb. This place is definitely a hidden gem. From the outside, you never think what fantastic food is inside. Service is very fast, but the place is nothing to look at. They make up for it in the food. Amazing fresh donuts. The ladies behind the bulletproof counter are always sweet and efficient. A dozen glazed donuts costs less than anywhere else. Change with a $10 bill is unbelievable and my office mates love it! The apple fritter was so large, it wouldn't fit on my small dessert plate so I moved it to the dinner plate. It is soo good and fresh everyday morning and wonderful price that can afford. It is easy to find the place there but small parking.

Based on other yelper's pics of the apple fritters, we came to Fresh Donuts to get one for breakfast. We originally wanted one apple fritter but saw how delicious the blueberry old fashion cake donut looked so we got that too. This place has $5 minimum to use a card so we were forced to buy more donuts (didn't take much to force us, there was not pulling my thumb back of any kind). We ended up getting a long john, a cinnamon roll and a chocolate coconut old fashion. Yes, that's right we got 5 items items for $5 and some change. Coming from DC where $5 will only get you 1.5 donuts this was incredible!!! The donuts were fresh, soft and delicious. No they aren't gourmet ones, no they don't have fancy names or flavors but they are good. If you want some good classic donuts and a nice cup of coffee for a few bucks come here with cash. Finally!!! An apple fritter that compares to the best in LA. I love Federal donuts, but prefer yeast. Not a fan of the B donut shop... I don't get the hype. Fresh Donuts and I have been neighbors for years, and I have only one complaint: They prep batters and icings at 5:30 each evening after they close, so you're biking by and you're like "OMG YES DONUTS YES" but they're closed :( Anyway, these guys have gotten away with raising all of thier prices by about 10 cents but no one cares, because they're cheap anyway. Their apple fritters are literally the size of my face, they have a variety of different jelly fillings, and I appreciate their blueberry donuts sooo much. 10/$ donut holes :) But seriously, I love their food. Every saturday my husband and I walk up the block and get a hot sausage each, and grilled cheese with bacon. No matter how much crap we say we want (Ex: 2 hot sausage, a BLT, grilled cheese, boston creme, cake donut, diet ginger ale and a sweet tea, please.) Our bill is never over $10. Loves. CASH ONLY. Bought a dozen assorted to take to a party today. Grand total $6.50. Also took 2 dozen from expensive popular center city donut store. Grand total $31.00. All donuts eaten and loved at the same rate. I use to come here every morning for coffee. Now I come at least every Sunday for coffee and a hot dog/ hot sausage/kielbasa. The ladies working here are lovely and the food is super cheap.
