Lack luster and weak!!!! How could something with so many wonderful ingredients taste like nothing?? I did my research, I checked Instagram every picture looked phenomenal. The place is always packed when ever I passed by and I had been meaning to drop in for the longest time. I woke up this morning with a hankering for a great turkey sandwich. So I asked my buddy yo you want to go get a pastrami sandwich? When we got in the door we were so excited the walls tastefully decorated with all the typical signs of good food to come in a Jewish deli, kosher salt, voodoo chips, picturesque bagels. We waited for a while my friend ordered the egg cheese and pastrami on rye and I had the turkey club. There was no where to sit. The place was packed we tried to wait for a seat but bloodthirsty hipsters savagely snatched up any brief vacancies and we decided it would be more comforting to eat in our car. Our excitement was brimming once we slid out seats back and started opening the brown bag. I gave my friend his egg and pastrami sandwich he started eating first he said it tasted like water I was like what the fuck how can and egg sandwich taste like water?? So I opened my turkey club up my brain was so excited to eat this sandwich that the first bite was wonderful but then I soon realized my brain was playing tricks on me!!! I noticed my sandwich tasted like nothing as well. I think the turkey was actually a bit slimly with little bits of foil on it which is ironic because my sandwich wasn't wrapped in foil. The tomato's were also so sad, if I wanted sad tomatoes I could have gotten them at the bodega and bought the same sandwich with more food on it and a better taste for 5 dollars!!!! Instead I paid $17 plus a TIP for a fake ass Instagram photo essentially. I dumped my bag of cheesy ruffles on as a last ditch effort to save the sandwich and bring some relief to this tragic situation and wanted to kill myself as I drove home with a belly ache from slimy meat. read more

I had the pastrami, egg, and cheese sandwich on a challah roll, which was pretty good. Staff was friendly and helpful. For the sandwich itself, the flavors were rich, creamy, and overall really tender; not too salty and just right in terms of serving size. I would say that the one thing the sandwich lacks is a contrasting firmness/crunch since the challah roll buns are soft as well. I would have preferred a bread where it was maybe a little more crunchy/firm on the outside and soft on the inside so that there's a more satisfying firmness to the overall eating experience. But that's just me being picky; this place is great if you're looking for a tasty sandwich that fills you up. read more

Good, but expensive. These guys got SLAMMED when they first opened and the first three or four times I went, waited in line only to be told they had run out of x, y, z. Not sure who was managing the orders but they kinda messed up and left a bad taste in my mouth (figuratively). Teething problems, I guess. Also they kept closing early in the afternoon so I'd go by and it was closed. However, they seemed to have ironed that stuff out. The food is good!! Specialty bagel RULES but it's all so expensive. Went for breakfast with my friend and two bagels, coffees and some hot potato cakes later we were out over fifty dollars. I just don't know on what planet $50 for take away bagels and coffee is reasonable. Would like to see an expanded dinner /lunch menu. I'll continue to support this local business :) read more

I was really excited that this place opened, and I'll try again once I give them a chance to get their act together. I waited in line for 45+ minutes on Saturday morning while a "take a number" system was in place. Most of the employees were standing around doing nothing while one guy took orders (taking 3-5 minutes to take each person's order). It wasn't clear to me when people were supposed to pay, and I noticed that several times food came out and nobody was there to collect it (must have been frustrated with the long waits). After 45 minutes, there were still 16 numbers in line ahead of me and at 3-5 minutes per number, that meant it was likely to be another hour before I could even order so I gave up. The managers here should go watch the line move at Bagelsmith in Williamsburg - similarly small space, similarly large crowds, way more efficient. read more

Went the other day and must have timed it right because there weren't the long lines I've read about. They've done a lovely job with the space, fun and kitschy and a nice nod to NYC's famous "appetizing" spots. When I visited, I skipped the smoked fish (I was hungover) and tried the egg, cheese and bacon on a challah roll. At $5.95, I assumed it was a high-brow version on the deli/bodega classic. It wasn't. In fact, except for the roll, it was almost too loyal to the original, with limp bacon, and that dodgy fake cheese. Pretty lame and especially considering the price. All in all the place screams of first time restaurateurs who are trying their best to figure it out, and obviously making some mistakes along the way. Let's just hope that with all the hype and demand, they won't stop fixing the problems and making improvements. This place could be very good. read more

A friend and I stopped by here on a really cold day in December right before closing. We were craving some matzoh ball soup and latkes and luckily we got the last order of matzo ball soup! We loved the vintage vibes of the place and the typography/design of their menu is so great. When we came, it wasn't too busy and were able to find a table to sit easily. The matzo ball soup was some of the best I've had in NYC and the dill on top made it even more fresh tasting than some of the other matzo I've had. The latkes were also great. Really crispy, but not burned. The apple sauce that I'm assuming was homemade was also so good that we couldn't stop piling it on the latkes. I will definitely be back to try some of their sandwiches and eat more matzo ball soup. read more

I appreciate what these guys are doing and want this place to succeed. As a NY jew now living in Greenpoint, it is certainly a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Had I reviewed a few months ago, I would have given 4 stars; the #1 bagel was just perfection. However the past two times I've ordered it, somebody new is preparing these, and it's just sloppily put together. They forgot the dill cucumber salad the first time and today there just wasn't enough cucumber on the sandwich. The bagel was also stale:(( The ratio of ingredients was perfect 4-5 months ago! Something has happened with the quality control. If you're going to charge $12 for this bagel, it better be perfect!! I've also tried the brisket, which is good, but nothing special. It's certainly not as tender as I was expecting. My grandma's is better. (Sorry Anita) The latkes are kind of dense and doughy, so not a fan of these either. read more

Wow this was good. I had the corned beef Reuben and easily one of the best I've had in New York. As a heads up, the place is busy and small with very little seating, but the guys work fast so turnover is quick. Either way, the food was divine. Go get your fat on!!!! read more

I really enjoy Frankel's! It is a great addition to the neighborhood. Their bagel and lox is my favorite in the area. I am also a huge fan of their whitefish salad and their chocolate babka. Their pastrami sandwich is also very good although it was way over-salted and I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Frankel's hasn't quite figured out their pacing though- on weekends they run out of every desirable bagel type by lunch-time it seems. Hopefully they will figure this out soon! The matza ball soup is on point. the pastrami, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich is deliciously oozing with cheese. The reuben is delicious and well sized, without having been built for a giant. They carry the pastrami lox from Acme warehouse (yummmm). The prices are by no means cheap, but if you have a hankering for a brisket sandwich then you know you're ready to pay for it. Normally, I'm not a really big fan of pastrami, but man this place changed my mind. I've clearly been eating absolute trash pastrami because this place had some of the juiciest and most flavor pastrami. The Frankel's and their team are truly taking the classic New York Jewish Deli experience to another level. White fish salad on bagel - was just alright. Not much white fish. Bagel didn't have that classic chew that bagels should have. Hot pastrami sandwich - was also just alright. The pastrami wasn't melt in your mouth like Katz's. It was tender but had that cold cut texture to it. It wasn't orgasmic. Latkes - hell yea these are delicious. This place makes the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. It makes Katz look like child's play. At Katz they like to cut little pieces off and dangle it in front of you on a plate. Here, they nonchalantly drop this sandwich in your hands and each bite blows your clucking mind. This is the juiciest most flavorful pastrami sandwich you will ever have. I have been very hesitant to post this review due to the simple fact that I do not want this hidden pastrami island to be found. However this place deserves the 5 star given. On a side note I have not been able to try anything else on the menu due to the simple fact that I know the pastrami is there. Got introduced to Frankel's by a recommendation since Williamsburg is not a neighborhood I am familiar with...place is developing like crazy and seems ever changing. At first I thought we came to the wrong side of the place, or the take-out side since it was so small. You have the standard fare of lox, white fish, and pastrami etc. (Although bacon was a surprise...) Was advised to go with the brisket. All I have to say is DAMN. What an amazing sandwich (damn was also for the price lol). Perfectly thick sliced bread toasted with tender brisket without a sloppy amount of sauce. My only gripe is that the sandwich is not bigger. The storefront and the interior is cute, minus the extremely worn down wooden chairs. The place is small, so once you order you can either take a seat or just become an obstruction to anyone that wants to get coffee or throw out their garbage.
