I went here while visiting Brooklyn today and after researching great places to eat weeks ago. This place came up first and it's no surprise why. The staff was courteous and fast, despite a line at the door. Now onto the good looking part: the food. I ordered the Classic pastrami salmon sandwich and was immediately impressed with how it was cut picture perfect and even more after the first bite. There was even a point where I ate a caper and still could taste it hours later. It honestly makes no sense how quick the service is and how good the food is. Yum! Frankels is a welcome addition to the hood and at an ideal corner. With competition from 5 Leaves and Nights and Weekends at the same block, it's nice to have some options without long waits and still a delicious meal. Obviously we compared it wholeheartedly to Katz's which, also obviously, can't be beat. However it is a very close second. Their classic pastrami on rye was chock full of meat (arguably more than Katz's) with some incredible flavor. I opted for the pastrami egg and cheese on a toasted sesame and it did not disappoint. The pastrami is mouthwatering, not fatty, and with the perfect amount of char. Totally my style. I would have liked to see some more pastrami in my breakfast sandwich, which was heavy on the egg, but it was still reasonable and I couldn't finish my meal. Always a good sign ;) A friend had a bialy toasted and also enjoyed it. A+ for ambiance, as I felt I had gone back in time a few decades and they have some great vintagey items on sale. Also can't get over the location; there is clearly not enough space for the amount of foot traffic they get, but nothing beats being able to enjoy a delicious sandwich on a park bench in McCarran. The eggs are perfectly fluffy, the cheesy isn't overpowering and the pastrami is a true work of art: tender as all hell and perfectly balanced in flavor. The only downside is that the sandwich rings in at a cool $11 (I assume, since the damage was $13 with a soda). I've wanted to go to Frankel's for live....EVER! Christmas Eve it was!!!! The service was sort of slow considering no that many people were in the place but they looked like they were doing a bang up take out business which may account for the wait. The actual space itself it super clean and modern. It's got a great counter with containers of to-go items. There are lots of speciality items on one wall, sodas, mustards, chips etc... My husband and I sat at the counter by the window which I'm generally a fan of. We split the Brisket Sandwich ($16.95) which only came with a pickle. The pickle (from Gus' in the LES) was AMAZING! The sandwich was large and good enough for two people to split. It was tender and well seasoned (could have used a little more salt but such is the story of my life). I would definitely go back to Frankel's, especially for breakfast, their lox bagels seemed popular and delicious! read more

I made it to Frankel's two days in a row after they ran out of bagel's on Day 1. This is a fantastic modern take on a Jewish deli. The brisket sandwich is superb. Melt in your mouth like you wish your Bubby - all served made on a beautiful bun. Pastrami on Rye is top notch, and dare I say is in the league of Katz'. I like mine hot and with a slathering of mustard. Frankel's nailed it. The real standout is the Salmon Pastrami. Just amazing. They really know what they're doing. Yesterday was my first time at Frankel's and I truly can't say enough good things about my experience. Super friendly staff. I ordered the pastrami with swiss cheese, mustard, and coleslaw. A couple of minutes later, I was informed it would be a while if I wanted Cole slaw because there was none. I opted for sauerkraut on the side. I asked the girl at the counter about the latkes and she said they were amazing. I took her word for it and put my order in. The sandwiches came out and they looked delicious. Fortunately, the taste matched the look. We were given a few complementary rugelach with our food. The pastrami was flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. All of the ingredients matched in perfect harmony with each other. Before we finished the gentleman at the counter brought us a complementary Cole slaw. The entire experience was truly memorable and customer service was top notch. Arguably the best pastrami sandwich I've had. The latkes, as described, were amazing. Crispy exterior, soft inside, just salty enough. YUM!! Looking forward to a return trip. My friend said it was one of the best sandwiches he's ever had, period! Go there. Now. At 10:30 on a Sunday morning, we just beat the crowds for brunch. I tried the Aunt Blanche bagel sandwich, which is vegetarian. Given my obsession with capers, I was pretty certain I'd like the sandwich and I was not disappointed! The pickled veggies, capers, and cream cheese was an unusual combo for me, especially for breakfast, but proved to be an excellent vegetarian substitute for Frankel's classic lox or whitefish bagels. Overall, I felt the quality of the bagel and cream cheese was not quite as good as some other well known delis, but I really appreciated the laid back atmosphere and friendly service. Instead of the brusque, rushed counter service I expect at delis, Frankel's surprised me with their hipster cashiers and chill vibes. The bagel selection is quite limited, and to be honest they are pretty small. As such, I found a bit discouraging that a bagel is $1, but with cream cheese it is $3.50! Let's be real, a schmear of plain cream cheese should NOT cost an additional $2.50. You want a little bit of butter on the bagel, it will cost an additional $1.50! I mean seriously, you can buy a stick of butter for $1.50. That, combined with the small size of the bagels makes it not worth it, better to walk 5 minutes to Baker's Dozens where you can get a bagel twice the size with a fat schmear of cream cheese for $2.50. As for the breakfast sandwiches, they are alright. I ordered a pastrami egg and cheese ($9.64!), and it came heavy on the cheese and extreme light on the pastrami...I mean the cost of their pastrami egg and cheese is almost twice that of the regular egg and cheese, and I got something like two ounces of pastrami? There are no real other options for good quality, traditional NY Jewish deli sandwiches around the neighborhood, and to be fair their Reuben and pastrami sandwiches are pretty cheap compared to Manhattan. Overall, I would avoid the breakfast menu as you can find much better options at any of the delis one block away, or can go to Baker's Dozen and have much better luck. This place is a the definition of what a delicatessen is , honestly there pastrami is to die for awesome flavor texture , it melts in your mouth and when your finished your going to wish you had more , I just wish the sandwiches where a bit bigger and they gave more then just one tiny pickle . Go the Katz route and give a hand full of pickles , give mustard on the side and load up the sandwiches for the price you pay that's the least that they could do .
