The hotel recommended this restaurant and stated, not only did they deliver, but the owner himself delivered it to the room. They HIGHLY recommended the pizza. We got the 16in pepperoni pizza and sweet teriyaki wings. From the very courteous young lady on the phone who took the order to the gentleman that delivered it - excellent customer service! And the pizza? Orgasmic! So, so good. New York fold it, pepperoni oil sheen, perfect mix of cheese GOOD! I normally NEVER eat leftover pizza because it's normally not as good. My wife and I just had the best Italian food in Lake City and Live Oak. Normally ipost pics but we inhaled everything. For appetizers we had Bang Bang & Buffalo Garlic Parm wings. They were great! The ranch I ordered for me just sat there. They had such a great taste I couldn't ruin them We also ordered the Frankie Bread. Wow! It's basically a small cheese pizza without the sauce. Whatever cheese he uses is so hood it doesn't need anything else. I have no idea what spices he uses but the combination was decadent. Everything on the menu looked appetizing so deciding was a challenge. In the end we decided to split the Tour of Italy... which were barely made dent in! The chicken parm was juicy. The meat lasagna was packed with tasty sausage. The meatballs passed my wife's test... which is uncommon. And, she actually said she'd order the stuffed shells or manicotti WHICH IS MIND BLOWING SINCE SHE HATES RICOTA! Frankie himself stopped by to introduce himself. He took the time to explain the ingredients. And let me just say, there's a reason he's proud of the food. And to top it all off, our waitress, Alyssa, was top notch. Stress was very personable and perfectly attentive. There's a good chance we'll wait for next Friday to return just so we can have her again. Haven't been here since the name change. I got the eggplant sub, which was pretty good, I asked for light cheese, which I'm glad I did because it was pretty cheesy. My mom got the grilled chicken parm sub and said it was ok. Not the best she had but not the worst either. I don't think this is the place I would go if I'm craving Italian but it wasn't bad and if I was in that area would get again. Checking in gave me an offer for a free cannoli, which after trying I would never purchase. It wasn't a normal cannoli filling so would not recommend that. Tried this place tonight for our date night. Our waitress was lovely, and checked on us frequently, even gave us suggestions when asked. We took both of her suggestions - husband had the Cuban; I had the Philly. I swapped out my fries for onion rings. Husband really liked his meal - I didn't try it; but I did snag some fries, I would come here solely for the fries and onion rings! My Philly was epic. It was pipping hot, that I felt like a fire breathing heifer but here's the kicker: the bread did not get soggy from the heat/steam from the meat/veggies/cheese. I hate soggy bread. The onions rings were divine as well! The ranch was good, too! The reason for the 4 stars, and I'll probably get some heat for this: The pricing. For a place that is predominantly a bar with bar food (albeit good food), the prices were high. Our bill was $50. For two sandwiches, a Coke, single shot of whiskey ($11), and then a $2 up charge for changing out French fries for onions rings (and while I figured there might be a charge - the waitress didn't advise us of this). If your in Lake City Florida, you have to go to Frankie's Place on Marion Ave. Frankie is a displaced New Yorker who runs a great joint in downtown Lake City. He tries to say Hi to everybody who comes in and make sure you get that New York, "Ow Ya Doin" feeling. They offer a wide selection of foods, from traditional Italian to regular standards. A number of different types of salads, soups and of course Daily specials. I bet there were nearly 15 different appetizers in addition to the salads and soups. I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture of the menu so you could see all of the options. I know they had lasagna, chicken parmigiana, steaks, several pasta dishes and much much more. I had Katie's chicken which is chunks of chicken with angel hair pasta in a garlic and white wine sauce. It was huge. I really enjoyed the buffalo shrimp. They were medium size shrimp but great flavor. They also have a full bar with all the regular offerings in addition to a decent wine list and a number of craft beers which they update regularly. I knew Frankie's Place back when it was Sal's... just for one evening of fantastic food, as I am from out of town, but that was all that I needed to know that this is a wonderful restaurant. It is full of history, a family/community vibe and wonderful food. The owner/best lasagna chef in the country shared some insights with us (that first night we visited) about the history of the town and the building. They clearly have maintained that integrity through any and all renovations. You can feel the nostalgia in the space, yet it is modern and welcoming to today's local community to enjoy. He then shared with us a few tidbits regarding how he prepares his now namesake lasagna. I won't divulge his secrets, but they definitely include some imports of crucial ingredients from Italy and keeping things authentic and simple. His lasagna truly is the best I've ever had, and, from what I understand, a routine special on Mondays. Please give this historic, yet modern, restaurant a whirl. You can feel the community vibe immediately. When I dined there this past week, it was evident that the bartender/server was familiar with many of her patrons and that the staff were all professionally connected in a community-forward manner. Our Military family and I were passing through on our way back home to SC from taking kids to DisneyWorld and seeing family in Tampa. I googled and found this spot while on the highway as we were going to pass through. We are huge foodies my husband and I and always looking for small business restaurants to support. The menu had what the kids would eat so it was a huge deciding factor there. My daughter had kids pizza and ate the entire slice. My son had chicken and french fries which he ate all of (he has severe sensory disorder with foods as he has autism) my husband got the meat lasagna and I got the chicken parmesan as well as order of garlic knots for our group. The food was absolutely amazing! Ingredients was top quality and cooked to perfection. The owner stopped by to chat with us and found out he is a fellow New Yorker as well. I just recently discovered this place! First of all the service is amazing. We had Mackenzie as our server who is so attentive and cheerful. Tony the manager and Peter the owner/chef also both visited our table and welcomed us to feel right at home. The appetizer of fried shrimp was amazing. The Del Monico steak was grilled to perfection. The Stromboli I got may have been better classified as a calzone with a slit on top but the flavor was great. we got the bang bang shrimp but it was more like fried shrimp drowned in sweet and sour sauce. This place is amazing!!! Don't be fooled by the exterior. It looks closed (even with the open sign lit) but it's not. This is a small town gem right here!! I'm from a [once] small town and know that these places are the best all around. From being greeted with a warm smile, presumably by the owner, to beyond exceptional service and equally excellent food, you won't be disappointed here. Admittedly, we originally were going to the restaurant right next door. But since there was six of us, they treated us like they couldn't be bothered. At 5:30pm on a Saturday, they had 2 people sitting at multiple tables that easily sat 4-6. And then had the audacity to tell us it would be a 45min wait, or longer, "if we wanted to wait". And most tables were empty but had reserved signs on them. So we walked next door to Frankie's. Sooooo much better. We were greeted like we were old friends, told to sit where we wanted, the place wasn't packed yet, and we had service within a minute of us seating. Grace got us waters then Alaska (yep, that's her name...so cool) came over and got our bar drinks AND waited on us the whole time. She was clearly the bar tender as well; we sat at the high tops in the bar section. What a complete doll!! The food was phenomenal, prices completely on point, and the service was even better than the food...if that's possible. Alaska was more than attentive to us, very personable, and she made our entire experience worth it. I'm assuming the guy there, was the owner or manager. He was super nice and kept checking on us as well. He even took some time to speak with us and see what made us choose them. Just like we told him, we were glad we got poopoo'd on at the other place because this restaurant was worth it!! We'll be back next time we are around the area. This is a MUST stop!!!! When I visit Italian restaurants, I always go for the lasagna and my experience with that meal usually determines rather I will return. Frankie's lasagna was off the chain! It's a five layer serving which is a very large meal so go into this hungry. I have eaten lasagna at many many restaurants over the years but I've never had lasagna that has so much meat and tomato sauce that was nice and sweet. I had conversation with the owner and complimented him on his establishment as well as giving him feedback on my food. They have a variety of items on the menu from steak to subs, pizza and fish and chips. We had Calamari, wings and shrimp. The Calamari was exceptional, not tough and chewy like some places. They deep fried some coated chili peppers with them, adding to the flavor. The hot wings were, hot, I really liked them, the wife found them a little too hot. The shrimp were ok, not bad, but they had a hard time competing with the calamari and wings. Doubt we'll give Frankie's a second chance. We came here strictly because of positive Yelp reviews and were very disappointed. My companion is gluten-sensitive and ordered a protein bowl because the pasta options were all GF. They were out if the first two choices (quinoa rice and chickpea rotini). It took multiple trips back to the kitchen to learn this, and during this time we learned that the cook did not speak English. The remaining choice was red lentil penne. The red lentil penne was ultimately substituted with regular penne without notice. Our server was new, so I won't blame her, but management should provide more assistance. It's possible that a language barrier with the cook led to some of the menu substitution confusion. I ordered the blackened Mahi-mahi and it was very overcooked. Drinks were okay. Service was prompt. We stressed to our server that we understood her being new and unfamiliar with the menu, and were not upset with her. A couple of the previous Yelp reviews mentioned a family-friendly atmosphere.
