Today was my second visit to Franklin Bakehouse, and it instantly reminded me why I loved it so much the first time, years ago, when I came for brunch with a friend. The staff were patient and helpful as I asked questions and considered all my options. I had forgotten that they brew Nashville's own 8&R spresso!! Their 16oz drinks come with four shots - coffee lovers like me will appreciate the strength! Most of their syrups are Monin, I think maybe I saw 1 housemade. What really sets this place apart is the charming farmer's market-style vibe. Besides food, coffee and fresh-baked pastries, they offer their own delicious sourdough and focaccia loaves to go, and a very thoughtful selection of local items - like organic Amish eggs ($6/dozen - unreal price right now and I saw they reuse the cartons/place to return them - heartwarming), bone broths, small-batch sauces, and so much more. I loved spotting a whole shelf of Republic of Tea bags, sold individually so you can sample new flavors before committing to a full tin. You can tell everything is chosen with care both in quality and with a community focus. Franklin Bakehouse is one of those places that just makes you feel good the moment you walk in. This is my review for the bakery: I really wanted to support this small bakery, but my experience left me feeling misled and taken advantage of. When I first visited, the owner, Steve Bledsoe, asked where we were from. After I said California, he told an employee to give us the "California discount." When the total came out to $40 per pie, I was shocked and asked why the price was so high. I was given a long explanation about premium ingredients and homemade quality. Feeling awkward and wanting to support a family-owned business, I went ahead and bought four pies. The next day, when I came back to pick them up, I noticed on the register that another customer had been charged $25 per pie. That was a big red flag. To double-check, I later called the shop as a new customer and was told pies are $25. When I asked to speak with the owner, his answers were inconsistent and unconvincing. I'm extremely disappointed. especially in a local business that relies on community trust. I left feeling like I was charged more simply because the owner thought he could get away with it. I will not be returning, and I hope the business reconsiders how it handles pricing and customer interactions. On top of the dishonesty. The pies were not great. I could have supported Costco and bought larger pies that tasted just as good, if not, better. read more

Okay, placed an order, the girl employee dropped it and I inadvertently made a chuckle. (She had already picked up one and put it back) so I walk out to car leaving person inside and when I walked back in, 1 employee girl (same employee) said 'oh Ms Loud Laugh is back'! My family heard her say that! How inappropriate and unprofessional! Didn't see the employee name but was tall. I have been meaning to stop by here and finally had the chance. So glad I did! Very cute shop. Lots of options and great customer service' Had their iced coffee which was great and my S.O. had a cortado and was a fan. Also got a peach scone, however didn't realize till I left that it was blueberry. But didn't really matter because it was delicious and one of the best scones I've had in awhile. We used to come here all the time, and always had a great experience. Today we came in and we ordered a couple coffees and breakfast sandwiches. Our total was over $50 because they are charging $5 for the bread on the sandwich, and $2 for every individual topping ($1 for cheese). That's pretty egregious as-is, but then every aspect of our order was wrong. When I told the worker my breakfast sandwich was supposed to be on an English muffin, instead of an everything bagel, she looked at me and said "I mean.. we can bring an English muffin? Or I guess we could remake it if you want?" With a huge attitude. I ate it as-is. Definitely won't be back until something changes which is sad! read more

I can't believe it took us so long to check this place out! This place lives up to its name! BAKED GOODS ARE A YES!!!!! Everything baked we got was fantastic! Everything that wasn't baked was mediocre. Doesn't mean we won't try it again, by any means. I'd say the things we were not impressed with we are quite snobby about which could just be an US thing and why I would never dock stars for stuff like that. Top notch: 1. Pecan morning bun (not sure if there were raisins or cranberries, you can just pick them off if you don't like them) 2. Sandwich bread slices oh my goshhhhh so good Just okay: 1. Chicken salad. I could tell it was quality ingredients, a little dry but mostly not flavorful - we ordered to go so I just doctored it up at home 2. Coffee, husband is a bit of a coffee snob since he roasts his own beans. Maybe it was just not brewed as well as it could have been, or maybe it's just my husbands palate lol I am genuinely looking to try some of their other items too given how good their baked goods were!! We were going to get the Italian sandwich on baguette which I'm sure would have been really yummy I loooove the location! Parking was just so busy on the weekend you just have to park in the garage or loop around a bazillion times. We sat inside and it's just a small quaint little spot. I visited here several years ago and it was wonderful. Yesterday I had avocado toast on the most basic bread that was covered in salt. When asking for almond creamer, almond milk was brought to the table in a full box and left. Not the warm and delicious experience from before it has obviously changed hands. read more

Franklin Bakehouse opened after I moved away from the area. I wish it were open when I lived there because I would have stopped by often! I ordered the tuna salad sandwich on sourdough with a side of the orzo pasta salad. The orzo salad was okay, but I probably wouldn't order it again. However, the sandwich was delicious. I loved the fresh sourdough bread, and the tuna salad was awesome. I was very tempted by all of the baked goods and fresh baked bread. They have bagels, scones, pastries, and muffins, as well as sourdough bread and baguettes. It all looked amazing, and they even had a little bin with day-old pastries for $1. Their menu includes a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and they offer coffee drinks. The inside is small, and they don't have a ton of seating. They do offer a small selection of groceries, as well. I'd recommend stopping by if you are in downtown Franklin! read more

It's been 2 years since my first review and the cafe has had a management change. I want this to be the same 5-star coffee house of my first review but I fear they are falling down. To wit: - They've changed coffee purveyors. Good but not quite like the former brand. And, my most recent cup came with a healthy teaspoon of grounds - Scones. Very tasty but about half the size of the former -Overall cleanliness - Unless they're planning on letting wild birds inside to feast on the crumbs, the window sills could really use a cleaning I hope they gain their footing quickly. I'd recommend reading the most recent reviews as anything before 2023 reflects a different cafe. I Might have to revisit some of the other coffee shops mentioned in my first review... read more

I'm not sure if I just went on a wrong day and time but the staff who helped me wasn't that friendly. I wasn't sure if the sourdough bread on display was for sale, so I walked up to the counter and asked for sourdough. The woman at the register told me - you can grab the one over there or I can grab it for you - there was an awkward pause.. and I just ended up saying - 'oh okay! I'll go grab the one that's out already'. She didn't crack a smile nor was very friendly.. it was as if I was asking a dumb question and she didn't feel up to helping.. When I came home and opened the bread (I got it yesterday on 10/28) and was disappointed again that the bread was baked on 10/26. There was no way for me to know that before opening the bread. I would think if there is 'bakehouse' in the name - you'd get a same-day bake? I guess not... I would expect fresh sourdough when it's labeled so.. at least mark the bake date on the outside too :( it's deceiving. The bread was just a-okay. Not that fluffy of a sourdough. Pretty dry. Bummer because I can only get good bread out here at a farmer's market and many of them have moved out of town because of the change of season.. I can get a freshly same day baked sourdough in California for 8 bucks at a super high-rated bakery. Come on... 2 day old? read more

My wife and I love the bakehouse. It has a cute feel inside, friendly staff, and delicious food!! The sandwiches are always great, they brew 8th and roast coffee, and their baked goods are hard to beat! Price is a little on the high end but you'll leave happy you went! Had a yummy breakfast here this morning! I absolutely loved the everything bagel, it's the best bagel I've had around this area in a while. Followed that up with a delicious chocolate chip cookie - I live for a cookie that has sprinkled salt on top. I am a tea drinker so was a tad disappointed they only have hot water and tea bags, no loose leaf or fresh tea. Husband liked his sandwich but the soup was pretty sweet. Cannoli is pre-filled so a tad soggy but still tasty. Service was great. Definitely want to come back and try more in the future. read more

This spot has come a long, long way in serving the gluten free population, and I am so thankful. When they were first open, I found it hard to find gf options in the store-now, however, they have delicious offerings! On a recent lunch visit, I had a sandwich on what seemed to be freshly made gf bread (fantastic!) and a gf cookie that was scrumptious. Very tasty sandwiches with Parisian flair. The turkey baguette was delicious and I loved the honey mustard on it. All sandwiches come with a soup or salad. I got the spinach salad with house vinaigrette and it hit the spot. My mom got the ham on sourdough with tomato soup and the soup was just ok. I even added a scone (12 in the case), they made sure I got the smallest one by far. You simply can't tell that they're stuff is gluten-free. Franklin Bakehouse offered regular and gluten-free versions of several different kinds of cakes for Christmas. My wife surprised me with a gluten-free coconut cake. It was the best cake I've ever had .... Regular or gluten-free! The cake was moist, buttery, melt in your mouth delicious. Arugula for the win! Everything about our meal at Franklin Bakehouse was amazing. We had the Ham and Cheese on Sourdough and the Turkey Baguette, both of which were so tasty, and we loved the addition of the arugula to them. It really took the flavor to a whole new level. We also had a side of the tomato bisque soup, which was also incredible. It was so fresh, and were pleasantly surprised of the carrots and onions in it. The service was great, and all the employees were very friendly and quick to help and make any recommendations. The overall vibe of the restaurant was very nice, with both indoor and outdoor seating, accompanied by local art for purchase. I also liked that we could see all of the treats and salads as we ordered. Well..... I used to LOVE the place but now a change in ownership. We arrived at 12:45 (so.... A little late lunch). They used to have all the sandwiches and salads prepared. Today, they were low on everything. More importantly, there were 3-4 staff people milling about..... all the outside tables were dirty, and 2 of them rocked significantly. The water was empty and stayed that way the entire time we were there even though I handed it to a staff member. The plastic utensils were low.... NO forks. And the worst part was that the trash can was overflowing and filthy. Very sad. Absentee owners I'm guessing. Oh well....... Fix this!! read more
