Then....I saw that my review was a decade ago! (That was back when it was a little farther out of town and in a smaller place. So, I came back, anew, to enjoy again. Hands down, this is a friendly establishment with a staff that is welcoming, polite, helpful...and ready to serve you. The interior is open and sports a nostalgic look with large tables accompanied by old (but sturdy) mismatched, carved-high back chairs. Yes, you can sit by yourself, but if it's busy....scoot over and invite a new friend to join you. Most tables seat 6 or 8 -- more "communal" style in a sense. Step up to the counter and order from the solid, albeit mundane, menu: eggs to order, meat side, potatoes, biscuit & toast...gravy if you like. They'll bring it to your table. Nothing fancy. My wife's eggs were scrambled, but not fluffy....rather flat like an unfilled omelet. My over easy eggs were close to perfection and oozed a rich yolk sauce on my deep fried potato cake. Yes, I would have preferred authentic hash browns or "home fries". But this worked for the occasion. Biscuits were buttery and tender. Coffee - average. Sausage patty appeared to be cut from a commercial roll - fried well and tasty. My wife's bacon was absolutely to her liking (hard to get right sometimes). But her's was spot on: very crisp, not burned. Lots of grab and go sandwiches for sale....check out other reviews and photos. Before you leave, pick up a couple of fried pies. (Ten yeara ago I had the peach - yummy. This timr we took home both apple and cherry. Slightly - not overly sweet fillings and a great afternoon treat. Dough was slightly different this visit. (You can see that in my pics...if Yelp still has them available.) As for the "Market" aspect of the name....that is a bit of a mystery - not a lot of market goods were readily visible. Oh!...be careful parking. The unmarked "street side" parking is tight and cars can come barreling down Hill Street. There is apparently more parking on the back side (towards downtown area). All-in-all the vibe was a bit like my Grandma's Country Store (1940-50s) a place where I was born and raised...friendly, comforting, congenial. It was topped with melted cheese and jalapeños... delicious. The Philly steak sandwich was perfectly spiced, tangy and gooey cheese and steak. Wow. The kids enjoyed their chicken fingers and kids burgers, as well as the fries. These folks know how to cook. Definitely worth bringing to your next party.

I chose the "Whiskey Dog", soaked in Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Whiskey, topped with grilled onions, shredded cheese, and their "signature sauce". And, FYI there are lots of other toppings from which to choose.) I truly have no words to adequately describe the combination of flavors and textures....save for umami, sweet, crunchy, hint of smooth, melting cheese shards, grilled to oh-such-goodness. Absolutely have to give a shout out to Strouds for their incredibly great service late yesterday…read more (Saturday) I needed a quick dinner for family, including grandsons and decided Strouds would be the place to go. Realizing they were going to be closing in 45 minutes we hustled to get there and made it just in time. ...That is... Just in time to join the fairly large group that was already packing the place ... and the four cars in line waiting for pick up. Uh oh! (It's generally not usually this busy when we go, but today was an exception.) Fortunately, we were hoping for ribs and they still had some left. (Star number one). We hoped for smoked wings. (Star number two.) Pulled chicken and pulled the pork earned star number three. Add on a bonus half star for chicken tenders and another star and a half for incredibly prompt service, especially under the circumstances. Without a doubt, this was one of the best trips to Strouds we've had in the eleven years or so we have been coming here. (I did not realize it had been that long until I saw the date on one of my first reviews of Strouds.) Even with the rush that they were experiencing near the end of the day, they provided service that was exceptional! And they provided food that was just as great! Pulled pork and chicken were both moist and tender. And the portions were generous enough for us to have a second meal today. Wings were heavily smoked and coated with a slightly pepper sauce delicious. (These had a great flavor as a cold treat the day after, but didn't hold up as well in terms of texture. Still delicious.) The vinegar based slaw - my wife's absolute favorite - was true to form. Baked beans were thick, the way I really like them, and were nestled in a savory sauce. One little added treat are the slightly crunchy, very small bits of sweet onion that add some zest to this delicious side. Cornbread Johnny cakes are just so so. And the chicken tenders are about the same - actually too much breading for one grandson. But the flavor and moisture is still there in the meat. Fries were great in the store, hot and crispy as we tasted them. But they didn't hold as well for the ride home. The baked potato on the other hand held up very well, smothered in pulled pork; it's become one of my favorites. Ribs were thick, well cooked, and enjoyed by everyone around our dinner table. The tender meat on these dry rub gems literally fell off the bone. (By the way, these are only available Friday and Saturday) As I mentioned, the portions are generous and for us provided and additional meal plus a snack. (Yeah, we over ordered. And I'm so glad we did.)
