Old movies, new runs, gorgeous space, fabulous service, a good bar, and the best popcorn in town. Now being run as a non-profit, I can't think of a better place to spend an afternoon or evening. Too often we are losing these types of theaters to big box, multi-plexes with no charm and no vibe. The seats might be cushier but the experience is lacking. The Kentucky has style and Lexington is lucky to have it.

But this time Hubby and I were in the audience for the premiere showing of the documentary film "Stories from the Balcony." The theatre was as full as I've ever seen it! Many local citizens were interested in the story, including several oral historians. The documentary was 20 years in the making, and told the story of the theatre with an emphasis on the era of segregation which forced the black community to sit in the balcony. Ironically, we sat in the front row of the balcony for the showing, some of the best seats in the house! Not having lived in Frankfort during segregation, it was eye opening to hear the interviews and stories told. After the film finished there was a brief Q&A with three participants of the film, and their comments were also insightful. While the theatre , and our country are no longer legally segregated, our society still has a way to go before everyone is treated equally. Thanks to Joanna Hay and her production company for producing, and to the theatre management for showing this film about the history of The Grand Theatre!

You got like 6 employees standing around but no pizza on the line and the stuff that is on the line is super old. Then you see employees coming out with plates while the customers standing waiting. Absolutely awful and I will be following up with a phone call. I took pictures to show I'm not lying. Literally everybody at work but no doing anything. I used to come here as a kid and thought this place was magical. It's gone way down hill in my opinion.

She had so much fun that we've been back several times since. The fishbowl game is her favorite. They have a wide selection of food that we easily paired down for her. The employees are really great. We went during a Bluey night and there was only one employee behind the prize counter. There was an insane amount of people trying to get his attention and push to the front. This employee stayed calm and positive. He made sure that anyone who shoved to the front understood that there was a line and they needed to wait their turn. He did his best to keep things nice and orderly and didn't once look grumpy if someone snapped at him. We will absolutely be returning.

The theatre, not so much the shows and the actors. We went to see The Producers last night and I swear I felt like I was seeing a real Broadway production. Everything from the staff to the programs to the show itself was top of the line. I was in awe! I would definitely recommend you take the time to see a show here and enjoy the atmosphere and the people around you. I may even have to take some time out and audition for a show myself. It's been so long since I did anything on stage. I feel like driving the distance to this place would be so worth it.

The places like this, made of garbage bags and wooden fences, will give you the best scares. Of course I can't offer a bunch of photos, but please believe me that this is one of the best haunted attractions I've been to in years. And I've been to Horror Nights at Universal, Netherworld in Atlanta (on the Travel Channel a million times every Halloween), and more. You can choose to have a "touch" option where actors can touch you. And they don't hold back (though they don't abuse you or harm you either). Hair pulling (gentle), face touching, hugging, pulling. So many twisting, turning, disorienting pathways, and a surprise at every corner. We went on a slow Sunday night mid-October, and the line was slow, but for a reason. They make sure there is plenty of room between groups so the scares aren't ruined. And I appreciate that. The actors were talented, funny, scary. My friend and I went and purchased the "couples xtreme pass," which was fast pass and touch pass. It was 116.60 after fees and tax. 100 percent worth it. Loved this. Would recommend it to anyone.

It's held twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. This was my first time going, as well as being in downtown Frankfort, and was very easy to get to. It's located in the Capitol Plaza hotel, which also has a free parking garage next door. There was plenty of signage directing us where we needed to be as well. I'm not sure how the hotel guests not affiliated with the con felt, but it was pretty packed!There were multiple rooms that held vendors, meet and greets, etc. If you go to a lot of cons, there is probably about half as much to check out, but there were still a lot of really cool local artists and whatnot. I was a little disappointed to find a few pyramid schemes in the mix. They also had a cosplay contest for those who are into dressing up, and they made it really fun to be a part of. I had a lot of fun at this event! For $20 admission, I felt like I got a lot out of it and got to be a part of a really fun atmosphere. I'll definitely be back for the next one!

Today was my second time visiting the Woodland Art Fair. It's become one of my favorite art shows,…read morein part due to their rules. Per their website, every piece must be original and made by the artist, who's present at the show. They don't allow MLM products or vendors selling soaps, lotions, or candles, which makes it feel more like an actual art fair. No shade to candlemakers. There's a great selection of food trucks and drinks, including beer, cider, wine, mead, and non-alcoholic options. I appreciated how the beverage vendors were spaced out throughout the event. It made getting a drink easy and convenient. It's a huge fair with hundreds of booths. I ate the mac & cheese bowl from a BBQ food truck. It was tasty but lukewarm. My companion had a corn dog and was disappointed with it so he helped out with my food. Dog are welcome at this fair, and there were so many, which - for me -made the experience even better. We found free parking about 4 blocks from the event, which is always a bonus. Lexington is doing art fairs right. Louisville could definitely take a few notes!!
