I had taken my car to another local mechanic to diagnose a problem with the air conditioner. They mechanic said that a house needed to be replaced, but they were not able to do it because they do not have the equipment needed to evacuate the existing refrigerant 1234yf. They referred us to the Kia dealer, which I knew would be very expensive. So I did some research online and found Franklynn Automotive. I called and described the situation to Steve. He said they likely can handle it, but would start with a complimentary second opinion. After their inspection, they determined that the hose does not need to be replaced and we only needed to refresh the refrigerant, which they do have the equipment for. In addition, the reason the other shop might have suggested the hose replacement was because of a leak related to the axel. All in, the repairs would be substantially less than the dealer quote for work that may not have been needed in the first place. Overall, great experience with Franklynn. read more

Went here to get suspension work done on my Tesla. Overall the vibe was friendly and the mechanic they had look at my car seemed to be top notch. He was the reason I wanted to get the suspension serviced here as his explanation of what I needed done showed his mastery of his craft. However after taking the car to Tesla to get a 2nd opinion I discovered that this shop (not the tech) was trying to charge me literally a 200% markup on the parts to do the repair. Crazy right!!! The genuine Tesla parts for the repair were $209 and these guys quoted those same parts out to $614 (I sent him the estimate from Tesla with the exact cost of the parts). Unfortunately for me Tesla wouldn't work on the car because of an aftermarket body kit the previous owner had installed. I really liked the mechanic at this shop, so I went back to this shop with the intention to move forward even though their cost was literally 56% more ($1,635 vs $2,555) then Tesla for the same work (because of the price gouging on the parts). Then when I asked about it before my approval to move forward the manager got snarky and said how would you expect us to stay in business if we don't markup the parts. I said and I quote "I get a markup on the parts and your high hourly rate for the labor on the work but not a 200% markup on the parts." The guy gave an excuse about the software they use but was unwilling to budge on the price gouging. I literally said why don't you let me buy the parts directly from Tesla and you can still mark them up 25% and he still said no. I was completely professional throughout the conversation, but obviously would not pay a 200% markup on parts on top of the already top of market labor they charge. After the conversation he texted me back and we agreed to not move forward. I only leave this review to warn others. It's a bad business practice to over charge people like that and so I just wanted to give people my story warning them to watch out and be careful before doing any work here. Update: this slime ball's disclosure of all the information I gave his manager, Steve, in good faith is abhorrent. Everything he mentioned on the car was told to them right up front as I told it to the manager, Steve, in person and this clown is repeating word for word what I told his manager. I was cool with this at first but this guy is a complete scum bag now using my own words and lying about it. Anyways besides being a scum bag, no effort at all was made regarding the parts and this shops 200% markup. I literally told the guy running the shop I would buy the parts myself and let them mark it up 25% and still the answer was a quick no. Everything I said was honest and accurate and don't appreciate this guy claiming transparency when his long shpeel was essentially just a my own words complaining about the car I bought and his shops poor excuse for price gauging. They could have done the job without gauging me on the price given I had the option to buy the parts myself. Not cool at all the response from this guy and his piss poor excuse for attempting to rip me off. read more

I needed a new transmission installed into my vehicle and I was getting the transmission from an outside source. I contacted many automotive places and many wouldn't install a part that wasn't theirs. Franklynn Automotive replied back to me and said they can do it. I talked with Dan and set up an appointment and had the vehicle dropped off and few days later the transmission was dropped off. Didn't take long after the new transmission was dropped off and the new one was installed, programmed and ready to go. I thought this would take a week! The job was to replace the fog light bulb on Ford Explorer 2015 sports, which doesn't take more than 3 min per side. The estimate to swap the bulbs by Franklynn was a ridiculous $175/. My tire shop Installed a set of new Michelins and Franklynn did the alignment. Do not bring your car here!! They're either incompetent, lazy, or trying to scam you. Took my truck in for a code related to my turbo actuator. They looked at it (apparently) and told me the entire turbo needs replaced for $3600. I got a second opinion and ended up replacing the actuator myself. The turbo is fine. Cost me $200 for the actuator and a days worth of work. Looked like no one had even touched a thing down there. Not sure if they got lazy and didn't want to look into it or just wanted to squeeze more money out of me. If that's not enough, here's some other issues I had: They charge $220 an hour for labor. Insane!! Had to call near closing after several days to see if they had found anything yet. They said "oh yeah I thought I sent it to you yesterday." Then why didn't you follow up? I had to call 24 hours later to find out? I told them I needed to get my truck on Saturday. They said no problem, we will leave the keys in a lockbox. Sure enough, there was no lockbox and the steering wheel was locked with an aftermarket lock. They called me Monday and apologized and offered an uber which was nice because at least they took ownership. But after all the other issues, it's inexcusable. Will not be back, and I suggest to anyone looking, go elsewhere. Avoid this place. read more

Dan claims my emissions showed improved, but my hc before their work was 2.53 and 2.59 after their work, needing a 1.5 to pass. Actually getting worse.Nox was 4.86 before and 4.1 after but still far from an acceptable improvement needing a 3, but a slight improvement. The process for a wavier is to have at least $700 dollars in repairs and fail a second emissions test. That documentation must be submitted and approved. After that the car must be inspected by a state mechanic to ensure all emissions equipment is intact and the repairs were completed. That mechanic said, " they did the work, but it is suspect. I would not return to them if I were you."I'm not sure why Dan would comment on a conversation he was not part of. I only asked for "some refund" in my initial email, but Dan did not want to make any offer. I would have been happy paying for all the parts and refunded a couple of hours of labor. This review is my opinion and experience.it is up to you if you want to use them. My experience was disappointing. read more

The absolute BEST!!! Back in June I had my wheel hub replaced at Franklynn Automotive - the service was very timely and affordable. Today, I visited my Audi dealership who told me my car coolant was empty. The dealership performed an in-depth coolant testing/analysis and told me there was a leak they could not find - they quoted me $230+ to refill the coolant. I then took my car to Dan at Franklynn Automotive to get my coolant refilled. After inspecting my vehicle, Dan let me know that my coolant was full, and the issue was actually with my sensor (Dan even took photos to show me this). I've been taking my cars to Franklynn Automotive for years now. This is the first time I used the pre-purchase inspection service. We found a used car that we liked. We were able to schedule the service with Franklynn the next day. It looked in great shape but I wanted to make sure that the engine, brakes, and harder to see items were in good working condition. They inspected 44 items including the fluids, measuring brake pad thickness, checking for any leaks, steering and suspension, history codes, etc. Everything came back great except for a minor tire tread issue with pictures to show the issue. The inspection included other pictures of the body from all four angles and of the undercarriage and control arms showing that they were in great shape. Now, I feel I got a great deal on the car since it is in good working condition with no issues. It is great peace of mind! read more
