I haven't been to Franks A Lot since I moved away from Waterford. But I had a dentist appointment in Waterford this morning, so I decided to go after my appointment. I noticed that the menu was new and that they now have biscuits ALL the time! I ordered the Big Biscuit breakfast, but I sure didn't expect it to be as big as it was -- it's easily enough for 3, possibly 4 meals! There were 2 large biscuits split open & covered with sausage gravy (Mmmm!) along with eggs and a generous serving of hash browns. I ate maybe 1/3 of it, which means I have lunch for the rest of the work week! read more

Went here years ago and sat at the bar waiting for my food. During this time I witnessed the cook (open kitchen), an older guy, grab raw chicken with a gloved hand, and then start grabbing buns, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles and assembling burgers. With the same glove he had just grabbed the raw chicken with. I asked multiple times if he was going to change his glove, and he just kept assembling burgers. I asked "did you hear me?". And he huffed, threw the gloves away, and put new ones on. Which means he did hear me, chose to ignore, and knowingly continued cross contaminating food. I will never be back and would advise anyone that values their health to run the other way. read more

I wish I liked this place. I live in the neighborhood and would love to have a great little diner to walk to. But every time I'm there the waitresses are never friendly. This is my first time here as I was again visiting and in the area. Very pleased we stopped in:) Small Mom and Pop type diners are becoming a thing of the past in our area. Of the few some have become "tired",however, here at Franks-a-lot you will experience what you remember from your fav old school diner! We dinned on Saturday around brunch time. The restaurant is very clean, in great repair and decor. Of all the glass partitions between booths I saw only one fresh fingerprint! I did NOT see one booth with cracked vinyl. Amazed at the standard of upkeep and cleanliness! Here you do not walk in and smell an old greasy grill. Your fried onions do not taste like green peppers/sausage from the previous order( one of my pet peeves). It is a clean grill! Staff gave stellar service! Our waitress was kind and attentive. Good coffee too. It was as if my coffee cup was charmed and automatically filled itself at just the right time!!! LOL My friend ordered the grilled chicken salad. It came with a nice sized piece of chicken that could have used a little more cheese but we have found some restaurants we frequent have cut back too. The grilled chicken was not over cooked and yummy. AMAZINGLY the salad was prepared with fresh cut lettuce! NO bagged lettuce that tastes and smells like formaldehyde here. Thank you Franks-a-Lot for putting in the effort!!! I ordered my most fav item at a diner, a plain old patty melt. Onions well done please! Yep, this was not the 1/2 pound patty that shrinks to a thick chunk of meat ,sitting off center leaving the majority of the bread empty. This is the traditional thinner patty that just covers the entire sandwich. Beef in every savory bite. The bread was generously buttered, evenly crunchy, with both gooey American and Swiss cheeses. So yummy. I enjoy both flavors on my melt. I always taste my food before salting and typically need to salt/pepper my burgers. I was pleased to find that I did not have to add anything. The burger and onions were already well seasoned. I will take a good burger over a steak any day. The burger was not hard as if over packed and the texture was not that of a pre made and commercially frozen product. Good burger pickles too. The entire meal for both of us was reasonably priced and very very good.Oh,they make homemade cookies in about 6-8 different varieties and sign says they serve Koegel hotdogs and they offer footlongs too! Not really sure what happened here as the food used to be decent. I stopped here over the weekend to get some takeout and the food made both myself and wife sick. I had the Southern Omelette (sausage and cheese with sausage gravy on top). The omelette had zero flavor - I put salt and pepper on it at home and it was still flavorless. How does that happen? You'd think with sausage inside and sausage gravy on top it would have some good flavor. My wife had the Spinach and Feta Omelette - again, no flavor at all. Both came with hashbrowns and toast. The toast was soggy, but didn't have much (if any) butter on it. The hashbrowns were okay. My wife also ordered a large apple juice, which came in a pretty small cup and tasted extremely watered down. I'm not sure what exactly made us sick from here, but we will steer clear for breakfast. We have ordered dinner from here before and didn't have the same issue. read more

Wow get the pancakes they were the only thing that didn't suck that I got from this place in the 2 or 3 times I've been there. They literally serve canned corned beef hash at this place!!!! The toast is always burnt, I think the sausage is pre cooked and I know it tastes like crap. The omelettes are inedible and just go somewhere else, or don't eat. read more

I'm unimpressed with the food at Franks A Lot. I had the Kentucky Hash breakfast. It was, more or less, pig slop. The "hash" wasn't hash at all. It was hash browns with bits of ham. The sausage gravy was bland and had a nauseating gelatinous texture. On the other hand, the coffee was quite good for diner coffee, and I'm a whole bean grinding French Press using coffee snob. I grew up in Detroit around some legendary Coneys and diner food. This is bar far the best coney I've had outside the city limits. The seasoned fries are awesome, they not only feature Detroit-style coneys, but also New York, Chicago, and Atlanta. AND they use the best hot dogs to be found anywhere: Koegel's! Real head lettuce (not that shredded in a bag stuff), fresh diced tomatoes, nothing is pre-processed here. As if that isn't smashing enough, their prices are fair, the owners/staff are very friendly, and they are CONSTANTLY cleaning. The cook wiped the grill hood down BEFORE and AFTER making our food. Everything sparkled. Do yourself a favor: get your breakfast/lunch kicks here, you will NOT be sorry! read more

My girlfriend and I went here the other day. Given the name, I ordered a coney and the Hash browns with onions and peppers, plus chili (she got biscuits and gravy). The food was mediocre at best. Her food came out at barely like warm almost room temperature. My food was hot but like I said...our food was nothing to rave about. They attempted to toast my bread on the grill but it ended up coming out as mush. That wouldn't even get served in a fast food establishment. I've had much better elsewhere. This is a great tiny coney. Convenient location, full-view kitchen, and competent staff. I've had breakfast here many times, usually pancakes, eggs and bacon. I've never had to send anything back. The pancakes are undercooked for my personal taste, but it doesn't render them inedible to me. Coffee is good and quick refills since there are only I think eight tables here. 2nd visit under new ownership will sadly be my last. Two reasons: 1 - for the convey islands, they purchase the cheap, poor grade hot dogs that are common at non-Detroit based coney island restaurants. You'd think a restaurant that makes itself after a particular product (Franks) would have enough pride to provide a top notch grade hot dog. Also, the hot dog bun was devoid of flavor and the texture dry; tasted as though someone forgot to seal the package after opening, thus allowing the buns to dry out over a two week period. Finally, the spartan amount of chili served on the hot dog was so little, it didn't even cover the two conveys from end-to-end. For those who are Detroit style coney aficionados, then you know that you cannot eat them with your hands, but with a fork and knife. These were one hander's, requiring no utensils. 2 - The worst customer service possible so long as race, religion, gender or nationality are not involved. The attractive, young blonde waitress barely acknowledged me when I walked in and when she took my order did so with an attitude of reluctance. The cook, a behemoth of a man, did not respond to my inquiries, choosing to ignore me except for serving me my food order. When it was time to go, the waitress began calling me sweety and smiling at me as though being flirtatious would merit any additional tip. Too late young lady. In summary, with an atmosphere and personnel like you'd see in the movie "Deliverance", this is no neighborhood diner. If you prefer the company of unrepresented prisoners and a jail-quality commissary of food, then Frank's-a-Lot will seem like paradise to you. read more

I absolutely love this place. I don't normally write reviews but I see one that is incredibly inaccurate. This place has had the same owners for nearly 5 years (December 2010). I have been coming consistently for three years. Every time I come in, I am greeted by the staff who know my name and order. The place is small but packed with charm. There are no "cheap, poor grade" coneys here. They are Koegel brand and served with National brand chili and great cheese. They have amazing coney and lunch specials during the week. All portions are plentiful, and I frequently need a box to take home left overs. The coffee is amazing! I really cannot write enough good things about this place. I work nearby and have lunch here a few times a week. If you pass by and see the rare, open parking spot - take it. You won't be disappointed. read more

This place was Franks A Lot years ago then it became 3 or 4 other things then it became Franks A Lot again. I don't know if the original owner took it over or if they just bought the name. I use to have a cousin who lived off Scott Lake Rd., the other side of the train tracks so I use to go there years ago. The new Franks A Lot is really good. Not your typical coney island food. Their menu selection is really good with something for everyone. The food is fresh, not warmed up or sitting around all day. I've only been there twice since it changed names but it's a great little place. Congrats. read more
