Very friendly, family owned business, plus I love their cat. Service is really fantastic. I had one instance where I had to leave for a flight the following morning, but I couldn't get home in time by the time they closed. They were extremely nice and offered to deliver to my dry cleaning to my doorman, ten minutes before they closed, free of charge. The price is slightly more reasonable than other dry cleaners in the UES. I haven't delved deep but maybe a couple dollars cheaper for a few button ups and sweaters. read more

Frank's is the best dry cleaner I have worked with in my 30+ years in Manhattan! They are reliable, thorough, fair, and consistently exceed my expectations (even after several years)! For example, when I needed a rush job a few weeks ago because I was going away, I asked if they could deliver a couple of items by the next day. Not only did they deliver that very same evening but they delivered everything I sent to them (which was a lot). It was wonderful and I was able to take everything on my trip. They are incredibly easy to work with: I fill my laundry bag (which they labeled for me), then I just call them and they immediately come to pick up. The clothes are always returned within a few days and they are always very clean. Frank's is always incredibly conscientious about making sure that my clothes are returned in perfect condition and if there is anything, even the smallest detail, they call me to let me know (ex: your shirt was ready before your pants so we'll deliver separately). Once (in my 3+ years with Frank's), I received a concerned call from Ronnie that there was a stubborn stain that just could not come out. She said it really bothered her and explained each thing they tried to remove it -- it was extensive and I appreciated how thorough she was! I'm very grateful to have found Frank's! They are great at what they do and always deliver on what they promise, no exceptions. Clothes are expensive and sometimes irreplaceable/sentimental. I used wash and fold services multiple times. One week the clothes came back damaged. When I called, staff insisted it must have been because my clothes were just "low quality" (they were regular clothes from name brands, and I'd been doing wash and fold for a few months without issue). Terrible customer service. They dry cleaned a winter jacket for the same amount as a dress that was not cleaned. I went in to report this and the woman was not helpful and did not offer any customer service. They "assume" you want a special cleaning for a winter coat but charge the special price for a dress and don't do the same special cleaning. My dress came back smelling like it wasn't cleaned. I used my own Le Labo at home product and it was good as new! No help from them! Do not go there. read more

The owner was very rude and unfriendly to me when I called to inquire an order of dry cleaning that had been outstanding for over two weeks because it was "not convenient" to deliver to me, despite offering pick-up and delivery to buildings in my area. For the entire time I've lived in this neighborhood Frank has been my go-to for tailoring. When the management changed I was a bit worried, but in fact the new owners have gone above and beyond. The shop is tidier, the turnaround times have significantly improved and the work is still amazing. I highly recommend Frank's - most recently, I had a vintage coat that needed buttons. I've been to Frank a few times now. Getting past his customer service (he yells at everyone but you can't help but smile as you know he's been dealing with people on the upper east side forever! You also can't understand him very well) is one thing and doesn't bother me much. I think his work is very good. He knows what he's doing. The biggest issue that I have with Frank is his punctuality. It takes him 3-4 weeks to do any altering, if not longer. He will claim that he will have it for you tomorrow every time you go in, but he won't. I have no idea what the problem is - he needs to still to a realistic time frame for his work. If he is too overwhelmed he should bring someone else in to help out. read more

I used Frank's Tailoring to properly fit several women's suits this month. Over the month, I asked them to hem sleeves, hem skirts, take out a skirt about 1/2 size, move a button, and most notably, take in the bodice of a dress suit with sleeves that was very challenging to modify. Each time, both of the proprietors were professional, kind, and knowledgeable. I was able to try on each piece before taking it home, and we would all scrutinize the results. If there was any problem with the ultimate fit or unexpected consequence of the modification, they made corrections and additions promptly and in a professional manner. Their prices were very fair, even for a student budget (which is not easy in Manhattan), and they were always very conscious and respectful of the timeframe in which the modifications needed to be made. (NB: I've never used their cleaning services before, but the suits they altered were certainly pressed well.) They make excellent alterations, and they run a good business - I am going to recommend this establishment to everyone in the area who needs alterations done. read more

We live on the block and have been going to Frank's for about 2.5 years. Today was the last straw. My boyfriend picked up a pair of navy dress pants he had dry cleaned only to be returned to him with a red tint on a section of the pants. As we are regular customers, the manager knows us but denied any fault, saying it was a "manufacturer defect" with the pants rather than do the right thing. He could have offered to clean them again to see if it helped remove the red tint or given us our money back but instead passed the blame, lost loyal neighborhood customers, and went back to watching his movie. I am disappointed and furious to have given them service as long as we have. There are about 8 different dry cleaners on our block, we'll be taking our business somewhere else. I then told him he was the best in the city purely based upon my experience with him.... he then told me he was voted the BEST in the city. In a block filled with 3-4 other dry cleaners, Frank's stands high above the rest. I have been a long-time resident of the neighborhood and Frank's has always been mine (and now my wife's) go-to for dry cleaning, tailoring and general alterations. I have witnessed the business transition though three different owners, each getting better, with the current owners (husband and wife team) representing the best. They are extremely friendly, kind and patient; they do top-quality work and it's reasonably priced. I have gotten over 25 different articles of clothing tailored and each is done extremely well, and up to my standards. This, as the family-friendly neighborhood feel, is the reason that I keep coming back. They have my vote! read more

when all is well, the job done is well but... I recently had a white shirt cleaned and discovered (albeit at home; still in plastic) that the entire shirt was yellow. Upon taking it back (still in plastic/ironed,etc) Frank proceeded to tell me it was my doing and there is no way it was his fault. He repeated it was my fault and wanted me to tell him what I did to the shirt so "he knew how to clean it". He proceeded to yell at his customer that I was at fault,... I left the shirt and while he cleaned it, he would not return it unless I paid him yet again... Frustration doesn't do justice to how I felt and still feel. I paid him but will never enter his store again. He obviously doesn't know what the cost of doing business is all about or how to be a professional. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a tailor. I asked to have the pockets taken out of a pair of pants and asked if he could repair a hole in a sweater. When I went to pick the items up the day AFTER he said they would be ready, they still were not ready. I waited close to 20 minutes while he searched for the items, before finally telling me they were not ready. I picked them up the following day and found that the pants pockets had a seam across them, but were not removed like I had asked. The sweater was patched with a mess of thread that was not the same color. Frank had assured me that the hole was fixable when I brought the sweater in, but when I got it back with the repair it looked more damaged than it did when it had a hole in it. I took the clothes back and explained why I was unhappy with them and he told me it is not possible to take the pockets out of a pair of pants and repeatedly told me he could "shorten" the pockets but that would cost a lot more money. He also said that the sweater was not repairable, which, again, I would have liked to know before paying for the the sweater to be repaired. When I asked for a partial refund, he kept saying "you pay for the work" until I finally walked out. I don't believe that you should have to pay for a service that provides no value. I honestly cannot believe Frank is still in business with such terrible service and unacceptable tailoring. read more

Ruined the first dress I brought in, by tapering when I specifically asked them not to, they actually made the dress too small for me and refused to refund the $40 they charged me or pay for the dress. So my lesson cost me a dress, now in the trash plus the rip off price they charged me to ruin it. Frank was worth every penny, new tailor isn't worth ONE PENNY. read more

Run (do not walk) away from this guy. Based on good reviews from others, I decided to try him over a month ago by bringing in a couple of items. He was rude, bordering on surly, in arguing why he could not take out a skirt that had become a bit snug around the waste. When I told him that I would take it back, he grudingly said that he would do it. I returned a number of days after the date that it was supposed to be ready and was told by his assistant to return a day or two later even though I explained that I would be out of town for a month after that. Ultimately, the skirt wasn't ready and I had to arrange for a friend to check on it and see if she could pick it up. They kept telling her that it wasn't ready, and a few days later they denied having the item at all when my friend said that she would pick it up anyway and ask me about bringing it somewhere else. Unfortunately, by this time my friend had misplaced the original claim ticket, but my guess is that they had lost it well before then and were simply stalling. To this day, they have yet to admit liability or apologize. If you want a thoroughly unpleasant experience with little to show for it, this is it. I had an excellent tailor before all of this who retired but I didn't imagine how poor the competition was. Perhaps I'll have better luck with the numerous other businesses located near Frank's. I honestly don't understand how he stays in business, and if I had more time on my hands, I would take steps to hold him accountable for his incompetence. In the meantime, I can only warn others to stay away, unless his problem is with young women (though I doubt that his poor business practices are limited to us). read more
