This place is one of my fav spots in town, not only because of the delicious food and hospitality, but also because of the community events they host. They also have a wide arrangement of vinyl you may never find on their second floor. I've had their chicken and waffles which were delicious and most recently had the fried fish. Everything is very flavorful and tasty. Plus there's always something to admire with all the special memorabilia throughout the restaurant. You won't regret going to visit Frank and his team.

Came in for a late lunch early dinner and the place was busy!! Got the 6 wings and 2 waffles which were really good and just a ton of food. Washed it down with a kool aid which brought back to the good ole days! The food was good and all but the staff and vibeof the restaurant was what really did it for me. Super friendly staff and just a really fun environment. I'll be back.

I ordered the food to go which is was very easy because they tell you a timeframe, and you meet at the bar for pick up. Upon arrival, I walked in and was directed to the proper area and the order was ready to go! I really appreciated this. I ordered the 12 pc honey hot wings with a side of fries. The fries were really good. They were dipped in maybe a batter. Would return for these! I think my order may have been wrong because the wings tasted more like buffalo only. I think I'll try something different on my next trip. The sweet tea was sweet, which is hard to come by unless you're more south. I also ordered the catfish and fries as well. The catfish was pretty good, and would try again ordering in.

So, I had been hearing about Frank's from friends and figured we would try it. My first impression was it is *loud* for a restaurant. It was people talking boisterous and it echos. They let us know that the booths needed to be cleaned, and had a table available. Okay. It is in the center of the room. More noise echo. I adjusted my hearing aids and dealt with it, and had husband speak up. Food, was good, but not spectacular. I ordered the Ocean Plate so I could try the catfish and the shrimp. The breading on the items was well balanced. I ordered Sweet Grits instead of fries, thinking I would still get the coleslaw. Nope, just grits. I wanted to know if the coleslaw was viniger based or mayo based... sweet or tangy- so no idea. Our wait staff said hi, didn't check on us much. It was okay. Husband ordered, 8 piece Tenders and Waffles and fried Mushrooms. The mushrooms came out first which was nice. They were down right good mushrooms and a rarity in Albuquerque. The waffle was a thin waffle that balanced the chicken well.

Oh wow! This was pretty darn great! The restaurant is very cute and one of the best homages to Prince I've seen, and our waitress was very friendly. They serve wings and strips, not chicken in the traditional sense, but the wings were yummy. Husband had the shrimp and grits and said it was some of the best grits he's ever had outside of the "south". Prices were reasonable, and we left with 3 to-go boxes!

Pros: tasty food. Definitely loved my fried catfish, wings, and coleslaw. Pretty big portions. Cons: Came on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe it was busy but after getting sat, it took 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order, and on top of that, nearly another 40 minutes to receive our food. It also took about 20 minutes to receive some water. Maybe it was because we were seated outside? I wanted to order a peach cobbler but didn't because I didn't want to spend another hour just waiting for food. The waitress felt bad and did not charge me extra for the chili cheese fries since she knew it took a long time, but probably won't be back because of slow service.

Amazing soul food in Albuquerque. We were seated promptly and given waters in huge mason jars. I got six chicken wings and fried okra. Food came out hot and fresh, chicken was seasoned really well. Service was great our server checked in on us multiple times.

    Tenders

Waffles soggy, no crisp at all. Chicken tenders taste like it's been under a heat lamp for the last hour. I am disappointment ed I had high hopes for this place. Red beans and rice lacked flavor

If you haven't been to Frank's, it really is an Albuquerque must try. You'll find food here that you really can't find anywhere else in the city. When it comes to what to get, I always go with a classic chicken and waffles and of course, a glass of Kool-Aid. They have a lot of really great offerings when it comes to southern sides, including incredible fried okra. We went on Sunday evening, which was the perfect time to go because it was really calm. I have had experiences in the past when I've come and busier days and it can be a significant wait. Pro tip: always get the bacon pecan sauce.

I thought it was pretty great!! My friend and I shared the chicken fried steak and the temptations platter. The platter came with yams, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese and fried chicken. Everything was delicious. The chicken fried steak was excellent and so were the mashed potatoes. I found the green beans fairly bland, but my friend liked them. It was definitely too much food. We probably could've shared one thing, but it was fun and yummy. Next time I go, I would probably try their chicken and waffles. Fun place!

This place is a classic! It's small but has the best atmosphere and food. The service was excellent! The decor on the wall is very entertaining to say the least. It's got memorabilia galore! This is one of the few places that even has chicken & waffles. You more than likely will have a wait because it is so small, but it's worth the wait, trust me!

Ask the Community - Frank's Famous Chicken & Waffles

What beers and wines do they have? Brands and types? An IPA? A good white? Thanks

They used to have beer, but not anymore.

Do they take credit cards now????? Used to be cash only at one time. Thanks.

We Have always taken credit cards. If we were only taking cash it was because the POS system was down.

The person who…read moreanswered was incredibly helpful and patiently explained that only the name had changed, which I appreciated. For our meal, we ordered two Chicken & Waffles plates, a Blue Corn Lavender Waffle, and a kids' plate. The Chicken & Waffles were the highlight of the meal, offering a satisfying balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Blue Corn Lavender Waffle was a unique touch and a fun way to try something distinctly New Mexican. Neither my wife nor I cared for the drip coffee, so we asked a staff member if we could swap it out for double espressos. They were happy to accommodate us, and the espresso was a significant improvement. The service was friendly, and the staff made a positive first impression from the phone call all the way through our visit. For our family, the total came to about $80, which felt a little steep. We ended up eating inside since the patio tables were either occupied or unavailable (due to a sleeping homeless person). The restaurant is housed in a renovated older home, and they've done a nice job making the most of the space. One of my favorite touches was the collection of retro waffle makers displayed along the walls, which added a fun, nostalgic charm to the atmosphere. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu.

I had to pick between savory and sweet, and the menu is huge with lots of options plus build your own! I went for savory and got it with goat cheese and spinach (built my own). It was delightful. The blue corn is just a tinge sweet so was an interesting mix. The waffle is a decent size but is super filling and dense. I'll have to try some sweet waffles or some different waffle bases next time! That said there are lots of gluten free options as well, so if that's for you, then don't hesitate to come check it out you won't be disappointed. There is indoor and outdoor seating, though in general the place is small-ish and can get crowded during busy times. Parking is also a bit of an adventure, but so is anywhere in that area. The staff is super friendly as well. All in all a great experience and I will be back. I can't believe it took me so long to get here in the first place!

But I understand the restaurant profit margins are always thin, and they need to figure out how to stay open. My favorite breakfast item was discontinued - Cheezy Grits with Carne, so good! The last time I ordered Huevos Rancheros the kitchen finally figured out that they should fry the tortillas in oil before plating instead of just warming on the grill!! They were so much better!! He even joked that they were "out of everything," which got a laugh and set a fun, relaxed tone. The music was rocking when I walked in, which I loved, although it eventually switched to something a little more mellow. Still, the overall atmosphere was inviting and made me want to stick around. I ordered an Iced Americano, and it was solid. You can tell they use quality espresso, but I personally would have liked it just a bit stronger. Next time, I'll probably ask for an extra shot to make it perfect for my taste. The real standout was the cinnamon roll. It had the ideal texture with a gooey, cinnamon-filled center, and they certainly didn't skimp on the cream cheese frosting. There was enough frosting to induce a sugar overdose, in a good way. The shop itself was clean, comfortable, and designed to make you want to stay awhile. They have a huge selection of board games and LEGO sets, so you could easily spend a couple of hours hanging out with friends or family. I also asked about the stage and learned they host karaoke and open mic nights a couple of evenings each week, which adds another fun reason to come back. Between the genuinely friendly staff, quality coffee, incredible cinnamon roll, and welcoming atmosphere, this is a place I'll definitely be visiting again.
