Okay, first of all, the inside of this place looks like it hasn't changed in the last 40 years or so. If that bothers you, don't come here. This is not the place to eat for ambience. I ate here for breakfast, and the food was really good. It's basic food fare here, nothing exotic. If you want three different kinds of sustainable, mountain-grown coffee, don't come here. If you want the latest, hot trending food items, don't come here either. If you want eggs, potatoes, meat, and pancakes, drop on in. The portions are good-sized, the food is tasty, and the coffee is good. I had a sausage and cheese omelette, and they have real cheddar cheese, although they offer the nasty American "cheese" alternative as well. I added avocado, and there was a substantial amount on top; so much so that my business associate made a comment about it. The hash browns were tasty, and the biscuits, although more like bread, were homemade, and delicious. I will definitely come back here, and would recommend this place for anyone looking for a good, traditional breakfast. Hipsters will probably be disappointed, but you were forewarned. read more

I've came a couple time to Franks for breakfast, but today I decided to come for lunch and I was not disappointed. I ordered the grill chicken breast lunch which comes with two side and two biscuits. I ordered salad and charro beans. All my food was very good and fresh. The food took about 6-8 minutes to be ready, ang my server brought my salad right away. Frank's Grill is AMAZING they always have great breakfast. I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken is battered and seasoned perfectly! The waffles is buttery. My mom got the pancakes, grits, eggs and bacon (best bacon ever). The place is very clean when we walked in you can smell the bleach and fabaloso. Frank's was good, plentiful, and cheap but the food was a mixed bag: Pancakes *** (On the chewy/spongy side - do not like, but good flavor) Biscuits **** (But really, can you mess up biscuits?) Hash Browns *** 1/2 (Homemade, were quite good, I could use them a little more greasy though) Sausage *** 1/2 (solid, but taste like Jimmy Deans (which I like)) Eggs ** (Not very good) Gravy ** 1/2 (Not super flavorful, better with sausage mixed in) I was mainly dissapointed they didn't have better pancakes and gravy. It's the best breakfast place I've been to since I lived in New Orleans where they had the Camilla grill. This placed is always packed both locations I've visited the workers were all very pleasant and helpful. And I love how you can sit at the bar and watch your food being made for you. read more

If you want a fun experience then sit at the counter. Watching the cooks do their thing was so fascinating! They were making the food and visiting with us. It was really fun to watch. The breakfast was super good. Excellent hash browns, crispy bacon, and great grits. It is a bit crowded so expect a bit of a wait on busy weekends. The restrooms are the only reason I did not give a five star rating. :-( Really know you are going for a diner experience and you will not be disappointed. I went here today with my girlfriend for a late breakfast. Overall, my experience was a bit disappointing. My cowboy omelette with jalapeños was fine. It was nothing to rave over. There were not as many jalapeños as I would have liked. The side of hash browns were awful -- they tasted like pure cardboard. My girlfriend ordered the breakfast tacos. She complained that they were awful too. She ate three bites. We also split a small ordered of pancakes with whipped cream (there was supposed to be chocolate sauce, but our waitress forgot it). This was the best part of the meal. A little dry, but still not bad. The whipped cream was good, but it's a bit hard to screw up whipped cream. Lastly, my biggest complaint is the service. Our waitress consistently stared at both of us in an awkward, tense manner when checking on us (which was not frequent). I noticed her behavior towards the other tables and she was much more pleasant. Strange... Our food took about 40 minutes to come out and, as mentioned, she forgot my chocolate sauce. Other people got their food first. Overall, it was an awkward and disappointing experience, and my girlfriend and I left with stomach aches and awful aftertastes in our mouths. Would I go back here? Hell no. Is the food edible? It is, yes. I've had worse. Are there better options for the price (which was about 30 bucks)? Absolutely. Just go to Avalon diner on I-10. This was an unexpected find for this area of town. It reminds me of an old school country diner that you might find out in a small town. The portions were HUGE and the price was cheap. The food it good old fashioned southern cooking. This would be a place to get a hearty breakfast at. Most of the seating is for 2 people, so I definitely would not bring a group here. read more

Food was good but they overcharged my sister by a large margin and when she called they were just like 'oh well'. We tipped in cash so they basically gave themselves a $20 or $30 tip with this issue. Visited this spot for lunch with some co-workers & man oh man I'm sold! This is one of those mom & pop type places. No fancy seating, decor or espresso machine so get over it. Just good ol fashioned breakfast/diner food. Our group ordered some of everything. We chatted a bit & when the orders started coming out, my mouth hit the floor. The portions are JUMBO!! Those "bigger than tha plate pancake" comments are sooo true. We shared family style, so I got to taste a bit of it all. Good lawd that waffle was delish! I went for the chicken fried steak w/ eggs, biscuits, white gravy & hashbrowns. That piping hot pile of freshly cut & griddled potatoes, fluffy scrambled eggs had me at hello. But when our waitress sat that plate of chicken fried steak & gravy glory in front of me...ya know, smh. I really outta be shame of how I went to work on that plate! And still ended up needing a to-go box. The only thing I didn't care for were the biscuits, but it didn't kill the meal. What stood out to me was how fresh everything was & that good old school taste of straight salt & pepper. Not over doing the seasonings so you can actually taste the food. I ate like over 4 hrs ago & I'm still full as a tic on a blood hound!! While it's not all dolled up on the outside, it's nice & clean inside and their prices are more than fair. Eh. The husband had heard that this was the best short-order breakfast in town, and since it's only a hop-skip-and-a-jump from our new place, we thought we'd give it a try. We trekked the kids out one weekend morning, and managed to snag a table for four before the crowd started to come in. They must have been for another location though because all I can really say is that they serve breakfast, and you can eat it. The pancakes are large, but not fluffy, which I know for sure I can make at home. Scrambled eggs, check. Hashbrowns, check. Coffee, check. I must admit the biscuits and sausage patties are actually pretty good. You get two biscuits with each order, so if you go for something really simple like eggs, sausage and biscuit, you can fashion yourself a little sandwich and have a decent meal. At the end of the day though, the biscuits and sausage aren't really saving graces; it all comes down to hygiene. If you didn't take a shower when you woke up, go to Frank's. Not the cleanest, but they do clean. The interior small inside, very open with lots of windows, and sporting yellowed walls probably from back when smoking was allowed in eating establishments. I love being able to see the cook at the grill making my burger, which was very good, by the way. The two issues I had were the bathrooms being cleaned at 12:05 PM and multiple customers playing their cell phone videos out loud and no one asking them to turn them off. That's a management and staff training issue that needs to be addressed to improve the overall customer experience. I hope to come back. read more

I always see this place hopping. It's a hole in the wall diner-type, alternative to IHOP, . . and yes--I like it better than IHOP. I had a burger and Onion rings. It was pretty tasty. Can't say I enjoyed the environment much. Feels icky inside. My mom was with me. . . had fries with her Mushroom burger--which she liked, but the fries were not good. Flavorless. However, if you want really good food, good portion sizes all at a reasonable price, Frank's is your place to go. I had the chicken fried chicken with waffles and it was great. I've eaten here about 3 or 4 times and it's always been great. Caution: get there early because parking is very scarce. The place was stuffy with no air moving about. The coffee tasted dated and burnt, much like the building. Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, where to begin. Hashbrowns were just shredded raw potatoes that briefly touched a griddle. 2 eggs scrambled were dry and must have come from a pigeon based upon the volume of their mass. The chicken fried steak, good breading, decent meat, lackluster taste. I opted for brown gravy, it came from a pouch as you could tell by how it coagulated. And finally the biscuit and cream gravy....sigh. It was overdone and gritty. Not even the cream gravy could breathe life back into it. Save yourself from disappointment and go to Jackie's down the street, your tummy will thank you! read more

I come here about once a month for the country breakfast, which consists of two eggs, toast or biscuits and hash browns or grits with two grilled pork chops. I always get service with a smile, good coffee and the food is cooked to perfection. Pork chops are mildly seasoned and grilled perfectly...not undedone, and not overcooked.
