Very solid burger, would consider a top 3 in Houston. Prices are pretty fair, no more than $13.50 for one of the more deluxe burgers, though 'monster burger' with 1 lb of meat is $21.50. I got the Holy Cow and my fiancée got the Miss Piggie. The Holy Cow had a decent size, and was pretty well balanced. Patty had a good cook to it, and was well-seasoned. My only note is the bun started to fall apart was I was eating it. It's a bit too soft. Fiancée like hers, though it had a raw look to it, which we were told was due to it being a mix of beef and pork, so heads up on that! The french fries were damn good, and quite fairly priced as well. We also got a bowl of house chili. You get a decent amount, but I wouldn't order it again, a bit salty for my taste and the beef was kind of 'crumbly', I think it needs more direct heat and more of a cook before being thrown in a pot. Inside is pretty spacious, kind retro diner look. Bathrooms are clean. Friendly staff, and manager(?) checks up on everyone. Hadn't been back in over 10 years, and it's like the place hasn't aged a day. Still locked in time with its old-school diner counter and antique wall decor. The burgers? Massive. Unapologetically messy, grilled to perfection, and still some of the best in town. I forgot how damn good they were. The chili cheese fries. The kind that make you question how we ever settled for canned chili anywhere else. No beans. No shortcuts. Just chunky tomato, real ground beef, and flavor that punches through. Our friend who lived in Houston said this was the spot to visit if we wanted a GOOD meal. Again, I don't take recommendations lightly. If you're recommending, it needs to live up to the hype. After seeing this cute spot in the heights that seemed to be an old-school no frills burger joint, we decided to stop in and get a bit to eat. Both of us were surprised shakes weren't on the menu considering the vibe but that wasn't a big deal . I ordered the equivalent of a mushroom Swiss burger (but asked for the bacon to be on the side) and then an order of waffle fries. The staff at the counter was very friendly as well. When the order came, I was impressed with the soft and fresh bun and was ready to dive in. The burger was a bit meh and thought it really needed fresh veggies like lettuce and red onion to it so it didn't taste so plain. My boyfriend also felt that his burger was good not great. While the decor and ambiance are cute and fun... it seems like it used to be an authentic burger joint with that vibe and now it's just a reminiscent feel and it wasn't kept up. Service was great, place and ambience was what we expected for the location. We ordered the spicy chipotle which was lacking the chipotle sauce, we got a few hints of it, but not much. We also tried the cowboy brunch burger, which was a good size but also lacked flavor, the meat was not a bad quality, but had no flavor and the egg didn't have a runny yolk which in my opinion, sucked. I had the Ms. Piggies burger and it was a disappointment since it mentioned candied bacon and all I got was bacon, the meat again was flavorless, I had to add salt and ketchup to my burger to taste something. Although the burgers were big, the lack of flavor made them pointless.. I'm not mad at it, but I've had better, and would not go back. The Cajun fries were also flavorless fries, they shouldn't be called Cajun, when they are just seasoned fries. Not worth the hype. The $12 we paid for the burgers plus the $4 dollar fries and $3 for the drink was not worth it. For 3 burgers, 3 orders of fries and 3 fountain drinks we paid $64 plus the tip, we paid $73. The patty ans bun may have gotten smaller since my my first visits but it's still a solid choice for a delicious and filling burger. Very cool place just outside of downtown. The place has history and you can tell as you as you walk in (watch your step!). Vintage hardwood floors. To my surprise they sell Joe Tea. Just OK. Was excited based on many reviews that I was going to find a long-hidden gem. Sorry to say it didn't live up to expectations. Got the miss piggie, which is supposed to have a 50/50 burger (beef/bacon), candied bacon, and a hash brown on it. The burger was plenty flavorful but a bit dry. There was not much bacon on it and I couldn't detect anything to 'candied' about it. The hash brown was pretty blah. The fries were OK but the tater tots had kind of an off taste, like maybe old oil or something. It really wasn't as bad as the description makes it out to be. This is the cutest mom and pop burger shop! The decor instantly transports you to an old school diner. I ordered the Spicy Chipotle burger with cajun fries and was overall pleased with my meal. The burgers are always made to order, arriving fresh and hot to the table. The burger overall tasted like a standard bacon burger with a hint of chipotle mayo. It is not spicy as the name suggests and I couldn't really taste the jalapeno in the bun. Despite that, it was still a solid burger and I liked how crispy the bacon was. I wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians. We went here because of the reviews but were disappointed. It's a small restaurant downtown, and I was looking forward to trying. The parking isn't great, but the restaurant was practically empty, so we were able to park out front. The interior is different, but unimpressive. They had piles of supplies on one of the back tables or booths. It was covered with bags and boxes of cups and other supplies that needed to be put away. It wasn't a great look, but it happens, and I get it. As long as the food was good, the rest of it was immaterial. We ordered 1. PMS (portabella mushroom sandwich) house basil pesto, portabella mushroom cap, roasted red peppers, grilled onions, fresh spinach, provolone, on a challah wheat bun 2. triple grilled cheese provolone, cheddar, american on texas toast. 3. philly grilled cheese surprise fresh grilled jalapenos, cheddar, Philadelphia cream cheese, on texas toast. 4. French fries (original) 5. French fries (cajun spice) 6. Tater tots (because we never actually got the cajun fries) 6. water & doctor pepper The mushroom sandwich was dry and bland. The sandwich was really tough. I ate about 1/4 of it, but the original french fries were good. The girl at the front was unsure if they had the philly grilled cheese surprise. Were they out of an ingredient or are they premade? I don't know, buy my son described it as "mid or worse." I gave him my mushroom sandwich to try, and he agreed that it wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as his. His cajun fries never arrived, so he decided to try tater tots and ordered those separately once we realized. They were terrible - like school cafeteria terrible. Both of my daughters had triple grilled cheese sandwiches, and they were as dry as sand. It was tasteless. It was the worst of the items we ordered. We left feeling disappointed, hungry, and with our wallet a bit lighter. This was a confusing experience. This place has the elements of a great little place, but unfortunately, the food just wasn't good. This is exactly the type of business that I would like to support, but I can't. As one of Houston's older establishments, Stanton's City Bites managed to morph from what was once a convenience store to one of the city's beloved burger destinations. A lot has changed in the First World over the last half century, but Stanton's has remained one of the city's most popular businesses. For me, it's become one of my favorite places to enjoy an American classic and is a beloved Asian-owned business. The place is easy to miss for a lot of first timers, since the building looks more like a house than it does a restaurant. The beautiful mural on the outside is what usually gets my attention but it's literally on the corner of Houston Ave and Edwards Street. Parking can be a challenge at times, but the steady flow of customers in and out means the wait to find a space won't be long. The interior reminds me of a renovated retro diner. I love the vintage decor pieces adorned on the wall and it didn't dawn on me that the place had Asian management until I saw the urns and Chinese characters behind the counter. It was a surprise but I'm all for it. (#1) The staff was extremely kind and current owner Theresa Fong and her adult children were doing a masterful job at running the show, cooking the food, and greeting every customer. Every time I've gotten a burger here, it's been great. The 1/2 Ib beef patties are a welcome departure from the smashburger trend that has been sweeping the city the past few years, and the heartiness of their stacked burgers is my usual preference. Truth be told, I haven't really had a bad burger here yet, thus I tend to get something different here each time. The Miss Piggie (ground bacon + beef patty + house candied bacon + hashbrown + cheddar + lettuce + tomato) is an easy go-to, as it combines a lot of sweet and savory textures. I do feel their turkey burger is highly underrated, and the holy cow (5 different cheeses) is cheesy in the best way. The blue moon (crumbled bleu cheese) is my pseudo guilty pleasure, but the monster burger (1 Ib of meat, 1/4 bacon, 4 slices of American cheese, with all the fixins) is the one item I can expect a nice food coma. Combine this with their tator tots, french fries, onion rings or pickle chips. There are also many burger alternatives, from veggie options to other sandwiches. Their club sandwiches are stacked (literally) and the tuna salad as well as the BLT, or smoked turkey sandwiches sound fabulous. I've heard good things about their chicken caesar. The prices aren't back breaking and the takeout is so popular here that I'd recommend calling ahead of time. Parking can be a bit of challenge but you can find a place within walking distance. The dining room is big and houses plenty of casual seating and a giant menu board to peruse. There are many items to chose from and the guy behind the counter is willing to explain any and all. I opted for the Ms Piggy which features a patty of ground beef and ground bacon, candied bacon and cheese along with a hash brown which added crunch to an otherwise juicy burger. When I go out of my car, I looked at the stairs and they looked very dangerous, but I thought I'm here already so went in anyway. The young man at the counter was very nice. I really don't think that I can talk about the ambience of the place because there was like three people there. I ordered a chili cheeseburger and tater tots, "bad move". I think they re-gifted the tater tots because they were very stale it was very disappointing. The hamburger was nothing to write home about, for the price they charged they need to do better. Maybe they might need to change the oil or something. I gave it a two only for the cashier. Last time I was here was before heading out to Free Press Summer Fest in 2014. I remember this place because here I had the best blue cheese burger I've ever had then. Fast forward 2023, FPSF is long gone and so are my festival going days (maybe), but Stanton's is still standing strong. Luckily we moved into the neighborhood and I finally got the chance to dine here again. The place is literally an old two story home. The feel is incredibly divey and old school inside. Needless to say they're a no frills neighborhood burger joint owned by a local family - what more could you want in a neighborhood burger spot? I got the classic burger with cheese and a side of onion rings. The burger was delicious, patty was seasoned well and the bun was toasted so beautifully. The onion rings were nice and fried perfectly. They do charge for ranch, but I don't mind spending a few cents more to support a small business so not really a biggie. Overall, I definitely recommend this local business. Place is old but charming and the food is great. I'll definitely be coming back, and hopefully not 9 years apart this time. read more

Still one of the best burger joints in Houston. It's an old school type of place that attracts more locals than out of towners. That is because where it is off the beaten path. Parking is 3 spaces in front and 3 more on the side. Other than that it's free street parking. I like their classic burger ($9) with regular fries $3) or waffle fries ($3.5). Inside it's an old small corner grocery store that is now just tables and chairs. My classic burger is a delicious all beef patty on a beautiful bun with quality lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and mustard added on. The bun lasts to the end and at the end I am happy. They're waffle fries are seasoned and are very good with our or without ketchup. Finally they have one of those Coke self serve drink machines with many flavors. I am and have always been a fan of Stanton's. Restaurants like this are a dying breed with the homogenization of fast food burger eateries. Come here for a one of a kind experience. read more

They served PORK in my "specifically requested HALAL" grilled chicken sandwich. I ate half of the sandwich and wasn't able to finish the rest half, so took the rest to go. I tried eating once again after getting back to my hotel and that's when I saw a bacon strip in my HALAL sandwich. This is OUTRAGEOUS!! I have taken a picture of the bacon strip and will contact the restaurant in the morning. Edit: I spoke to the manager, and afterward, the owner called me. They both apologized multiple times for the mistake and stated that they are always very careful with Halal orders and have maintained trust with their customers. They seemed regretful. read more

Disaster with a capital "D." I came in tonight because I was inspired by the positive reviews. I ordered a classic burger and they asked the temperature. I clearly asked for "medium" with grilled onions. When it came out, the burger was well done with no onions (and just one lousy pickle). I had the remake it and once again, the burger was charred. There was nothing remotely "medium" or "medium well" about it. Fries were frozen and totally not memorable. I don't understand why this is such a celebrated place. If I could give a 1/2 star I would.
