Not sure why I stopped at franks, but it turned out to be a good idea. Since everyone in the place was wearing a shirt that says best breakfast in Houston made me think I shouldn't have come for lunch. Even though they serve breakfast all day Istill went for a lunch item, The special Club. Now it said ham bacon and cheese. I assumed deli ham but no. Thick cut ham that was fried with the bacon. The sandwich was awesome! I had o-rings with it the were so so. But I did notice that they served probably around 15ish plates of the chicken fried chicken while i was there. We got a good cross-section of food including pancakes, french toast, eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, etc. 1. Pancakes and french toast tasted like it was saturated in cheap, gross vegetable oil. 2. French toast was raw in the middle, soggy, and gross (see #1) 3. Everything else was mediocre at best. 4. The service was not good 5. It took 2 years for us to try this place that is just around the corner from home. But, you can bet we will be back a lot sooner! Frank's Grill is VERY laid back and looks like it's stuck in the 1960's. It's almost disorganized. That is the one of the few drawbacks. It's sort of a free-for-all. This causes some delays. That's why it gets 3 stars. But, the food is SOOOO GOOOOD! That is why this place stays packed! When my son and I went in, there was a line. We didn't really know what happened with the line. There was no direction. No one told us anything. But, the place was packed, and there was obviously a line for a reason. Turns out, you seat yourself. Some nice customers in line ahead of us who were waiting on a larger table pointed out to us that there was a table for 2 open. I wouldn't have thought to take that table seeing as there were people in front of us. Some people were even seating themselves at dirty tables just so they could get a table! My son and I sat down at a small table for 2 and waited for a server. It seems like all the servers help everyone, so that was a little confusing, too. I also think it is difficult to give good service when you don't know when/whether a table has been attended to. One waitress took out drink order and brought our drinks while we looked at the menu. This teeny tiny table was practically full with only our napkins, condiments, and drinks. (This later proved to be an issue when the food came.) Another server took our food order. It took a little bit longer than expected to get our food, but like I said, this place was packed. And, when we got our food, it was well worth the wait! The portions are huge and the food is hot and fresh! One pancake took up an entire large round plate! A dinner plate! Not, one of those side plates that are practically teacup saucers. The hashbrowns were so deliciously crunchy! It was difficult and awkward to eat on the tiny table. We had to combine some things and stack plates. But, we had enough leftovers for dinner! They understand the term easy scrambled, u normally have to ask other place to redo my eggs cause they over cook them. We decided to sit at the counter to check out the cooks. At first I was thinking OMG what a mess what did I get myself into. What i see as a mess was a great systems here. It was smooth and food came out quick. Not just quick but came out right. I'm sorry but this is the worst food I have had in a long time. This was my first time trying and it will be my last. Per usual, I ordered through Door Dash for delivery. I ordered the chicken fried steak, green beans, mac n cheese and a dinner roll with an iced tea. To begin with, I didn't get the tea. The driver had no clue it was to come with my order and apparently the Grill didn't either. The cream gravy was bland and had no taste, the steak was too chewy (most cuts of meat used for this is but it was unappetizing after I had a "bad taste" from not getting the tea and the undercooked green beans. The beans, laughable. They were canned and undercooked with raw onion. I can tolerate fresh green beans being al dente but from a can, I expect them to be cooked! The mac n cheese was subpar but again, after trying to eat the meal, they began to taste bad too. The dinner "roll" was a biscuit, cornbread hybrid. I was disappointed to say the least! read more

I pulled up to the window, they all looked at me & kept walking. It took for me to continuously blow my horn for them to acknowledge me. Then when they came, it was with an attitude. I explained the situation & proceeded to order my food. I paid. Almost another ten minutes later they came back to tell me that they don't have what I just paid for & what would I like in return. At this point I'm pissed. I've been in the drive thru about 25 minutes total. They wouldn't refund my money so I was forced to get something else that I didn't want. Horrible horrible experience. Every Saturday I get the ham and cheese omelette with veggies to go. It's one of the best greasy spoon / diner breakfast joints that I've found in Houston. The breakfast meal comes with lots of traditional choices. I get the 1/2 hashbrowns and grits with the biscuit and extra order of gravy. The sides are huge! My girlfriend and I can split a breakfast for one. (And I am not a lite eater.) I have also had the scrambled eggs with a ham steak. Once again very large portions. I also like the belgium waffles. They have a very good texture and have that buttery taste you're looking for in a good waffle. The atmosphere at the restaurant is great. The wait staff has always been friendly and the food is always a little better right off the griddle. My fiance ordered coffee and never received a refill or was asked if he would like more. Then half of our food order was missing.
