Let me just say that CHICKEN was the best chicken I've ever had in my life!!!! It was fried perfectly it was so crispy... Oh yeah I also had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream... Let me just say awesome is an understatement when it comes to their waffles.... The place is self seating and a little small. If you go at a reasonable time you should be able to find a seat. Our waitress was GREAT! She worked very well under pressure while keeping a great attitude. I live 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. My Aunt and Uncle went here on July 12, 2020 and ordered the chicken fried chicken and there was hair in the chicken (see pictures). The hair was actually cooked in the chicken smh. The waiter was notified and took the plate. The manager comes back with the check and says I took the OJ off. SERIOUSLY!!! The manager advised that it is their policy that if you find hair in your food you still have to pay for it. They tried to reach out to the GM and haven't gotten a response back yet. Stopped in on Sunday morning for breakfast. I ordered the traditional breakfast. It came with 2 eggs, hash browns, grits, 2 biscuits and 3 strips of bacon. The eggs were just ok but both the grits and the bacon were great. I do have two small complaints, my biscuits were burned on the bottom and I prefer my hash browns crispy, these were a little undercooked for my taste. I did try the pancakes and sausage, both were very good. I like the fact that the kitchen is open and you can see your food being prepared. The seating area has a lot of tables closely packed. That's fine with me, looking at my dinning neighbors breakfast helped me decide what I'm going to get next time. The chicken fried chicken and waffles looked great. Service was very good. Our waitress was very friendly and did a great job taking care of us. Parking is an issue. This place was packed on Sunday morning. I had to wait to get a spot. A friend and I stopped by Frank's. He's eaten there before and I needed to be in that part of town. Nothing fancy, but quite a few folks coming and going all the time! Found a table and was greeted by a very nice waitress. Decided on chicken fried steak with green beans, okra and onion rings. Also asked for unsweetened tea. She was very prompt with the tea and the kitchen is open so you can see them cooking! Wasn't long before she brought our food. Nice portion of chicken fried steak. The white gravy was very good, not the usual paste you get. The green beans were absolutely great. I know it sounds crazy raving about green beans, but they were really good and FRESH. The okra was typical out of the bag fried but good and the same for the onion rings. The service was stellar, never had to ask for refills or anything and they were very busy!!! This was my first time at this location. The waitress bragged that this location was better than the one on Westheimer which is closest to me but I really don't care for. So needless to say, she set the bar high for my expectations here from the start. Upon entering, we were greeted and ask to seat ourselves. We found a seat by the window . So far so good. We were approached within mins by a server who took our drink orders. She was very nice and accommodating. I asked for fried wings and pancakes instead of the traditional waffles. She said they could do that, no problem. I also asked for strawberries and whipped cream on my waffle. My order came out wings and waffles with strawberries and whip. I reminded her I wanted pancakes instead. She quickly brought me pancakes but minus the strawberries and whip cream. I reminded her of the strawberries and whip and I thought she was going to take my pancake back and add it but she didn't. She bought a little cup of microwaved strawberry glazed topping and a cup of whip cream and I had to rake it on my pancake myself. I am not a complainer and I don't make a fuss. I observe everything though and I feel that she was a little annoyed that I reminded her of what i ordered. I just chalked it up to her being a forgetful waitress. My friend ordered grits that came out late and cold and she wanted brown sugar with them that did not come out the first time around. She sent the grits back to be re heated. My friends and I were able to sit anywhere we wanted as soon as we walked through the door. The chicken fried steak was fried to perfection, the only issue was the toughness of the steak. They put their gravy on the side, which I appreciated since that would've caused my food to be soggy. It came with hashbrowns that were lacking salt but they certainly offer Texas sized portions. This was enough for 2 people for a normal sized lunch honestly. Their fried cat fish was also fried well. There was 2 fillets. The breading stayed on surprisingly. The green beans were the most flavorful part of the meal. I recommend getting that. Eating those with the catfish made the meal much tastier. The mashed potatoes were given in a large portion. Finally, the biscuits and gravy was good. The biscuits were nice and flaky, the gravy needed more seasoning. Overall, I put 3 stars because the service was great, food was cooked well, and there wasn't a wait. When we walked in, our table was still wet, which kinda grossed me out. We returned to Frank's after they opened after Hurricane Harvey and the food is great again. The mushroom burger and chicken sandwiches are the best ever. Mushroom burger patty is bigger than the bun which is big in itself. Plenty of mushrooms and fixings. Comes with bacon on it but you can get your mushroom burger however you want including whatever cheese you want. We think the mushroom burger tastes best with provolone cheese. The chicken sandwich is made with 2-3 pieces of chicken also bigger than the bun and plenty of fixings. We also love their French fries because they are cooked perfectly and not greasy. I went to Franks Grill with my mother after church on a Sunday afternoon. We walk in and it looks like one of the establishments that Guy Fiery goes to on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. First thing you see is that long stainless steel bar that backs up to the huge grill that had at least 3 orders of pancakes being prepared. I ordered a breakfast burrito that was HUGE. I had to eat the filling with a fork first. I think its the biggest one I have ever eaten...guys get your minds out of the gutter. LOL! I chose potato, egg & cheese. The flour tortilla was grilled so it added a crunchy texture . The eggs were fluffy and the potatoes were crispy that added a really nice hearty flavor. They have this salsa...OOOOH this salsa. I need a minute! OK this salsa was first of all made from scratch so you can't beat that. It just wasn't hot but is was flavorful too! I can't describe it, you just have to try it for yourself! Oh I almost forgot to mention for you pancake eaters, beware they are enormous and it will take up the whole plate! They also serve homestyle lunches and dinners BIG portions and great prices! When we first walked in we saw a sign that said "please be seated" so we were a little worried about what kind of service we were going to get. Within a couple of minutes we were created by a very friendly waitress with a big smile. As busy as they were she didn't make us feel rushed, and she kept up with everything we needed. After 10 minutes, the waitress decide to come over and hand us a menu. After another 10-15 minutes she comes over to take the order. When we asked about the skimpy lunch list on the menu, she hands us the "new" menu, with lunches listed. After finally ordering, we waited another 15-20 minutes for the food to show up. Only just as she comes to the table, the drops the hamburger bun on the floor and THEN takes BOTH plates into the back to get a new bun. WTH? After FINALLY coming back with the food, she quickly kicks the errant bun under a table (like we wouldn't notice it?) and leaves it there. This is a basic greasy spoon / diner with low prices. It's a fine choice, but it's not going to blow you away. That said, affordable breakfast that is not a breakfast taco is not always easy to find and this place is certainly very affordable. I had a simple two-egg breakfast. The coffee was good. The eggs were cooked as ordered. The hash browns and toast were unremarkable. That said, the hash browns were not wet, greasy, or slimy, as other reviews commented, so maybe they sorted that problem out. Some other dishes I saw looked good, but I decided not to ask strangers to give me a bite of their food to test that. :-D The waitress worked very hard to do a good job but, while I was there, it seemed that the other front area staff (there were three when I walked in) kept disappearing for extended periods, so she was taking care of every table as well as handling to go orders. She was literally jogging to and fro at times and the other staff absolutely were aware of it, as one of them slowly walked out, calmly glanced at her running around, and they turned right around and went to the back of the restaurant. Now, it is entirely possible that there was a task that demanded two of the three (non-cook) staff to be mostly absent for a good twenty minutes during breakfast, but it seems that they could have handled the surge a little better. If only one of them had come up front for about ten minutes, it would have been a big difference. I did see the cleanliness issues others had reported. The booth bench had salt and food particles across most of it. The table seemed clean though, which is good, but everything clean would certainly be better. I knew the drill from the reviews here: take a seat like you've been there before and someone will show up with a menu, take your drink order, and call you "sweetie". I was prepared for massive awesomeness--a 15-egg omelette, 8 potatoes of hash browns, plate-sized biscuits--and what I got was...average. The food itself was ok--a western omelette very overdone (brown and crispy) with (gaaak!) American cheese, a decent amount of hash browns (served lukewarm), and 2 excessively average-sized biscuits fresh from the microwave. I know they came from the 'wave because they arrived hot then slowly solidified into table-tapping bricks. Service was ok--the requisite number of "honey"'s and "sweetie"'s--but I had to beg for every cup of coffee...and the butter I requested came labeled as "spread" made from partially-hydrogenated something-or-other. But the real thing, the thing that caused me to throw up in my mouth a little, the thing that will keep me from going back--was the cleanliness. From the spoon that came in my coffee cup when "honey-sweetie" brought it to my table (dirty with something akin to hot chocolate residue on the handle just above the coffee-line), to the salt and pepper shakers (sticky and gross), the ketchup squirter (stickier and grosser), the other-red-stuff-in-a-squirt-bottle (afraid to touch), and the Tabasco-without-a-cap (too fearful to use), everything was just plain unsanitary. Oh, did I mention the floors were covered in food residue and used napkins, and the bathroom--while not as bad as those in Harris County Jail, maybe--still stunk and had an overflowing trash can? I look at the glowing 5-star reviews here and wonder what I missed--other than the food, condiments, eating utensils, the floor, and the men's room--and it came to me: I parked right outside the door.
