Hmmmm. 3 1/2 stars? C'mon, guys!! I guess my palate and tastes are not as sophisticated. Frank's is the quintessential "Diner" and if you're looking for a great Breakfast or Lunch, there's no need to look further (IMHO). I am not a Houston resident but visit family here a couple of times a year; whenever I'm here, we all get to Frank's at least once! I like the simplicity of the place, the diversity of the clientele, the excellent service provided by the friendly staff, the generous portions of good, solid fare available from a good-sized menu that can be easily-amended, if one so requests - all at reasonable prices. Can one expect anything more? I have visited Frank's many times now, at different times of the year, and I return because of the consistency of the food quality and service, the two most critical aspects that affect a restaurant's longevity. read more

I finally tried Frank's Grill today after driving past it for years. Now I wish I had kept driving! I ordered the beef tips with rice, cabbage, and side salad. The beef was grey. It had no sear at all; just looked (and tasted) like it had been boiled. There was no gravy; just some light brown water over the rice, which was sticky and mushy and unappealing in every way. The cabbage was cooked and seasoned well. The side salad had a huge puddle of water in the to-go box - it was more like salad soup! The lettuce was slightly wilted around the edges but not terrible. The ladies at the drive through window were both pleasant enough, but were both wearing their masks around their chins. I will not be back. read more

95% of the times I've ordered from here there is something missing from the order. Once it was an entire entree. When we actually get what we paid for the food is good. Chicken fried chicken is great! - have had the gravy missing twice. Biscuits and gravy are delicious and they don't skimp on the gravy - once we didn't receive this dish at all. French toast was okay. Had an after taste and didn't have any powdered sugar. *Tip: check your food before leaving AND don't order delivery. read more

Let me start by just saying that this place is ridiculous the service not that great at all food options was very small it used to be more options but now they made it smaller and our server was spilling our drinks and dropping some of our food on the floor which is just unacceptable cause we had to wait almost 50 minutes which is unacceptable I don't recommend cause of my experience read more

It's unfortunately only my second visit here, but I absolutely LOVE this place. A very open and friendly atmosphere with the most amazing staff. The pricing is beyond reasonable and the food speaks for itself. Today was my boyfriend's first time here and he is sooooo picky about his strawberry shakes. He only ever gets them from one other place, but after today he said he will only get them from Frank's. Which luckily means we will be dining here much more frequently! The breakfast here is always on point. They can get pretty busy. We always order the omlette which used to be bigger back in the day but its still a good size. Parking is good and they are right off highway 6. Whenever we have the itch for some good home cooked breakfast we come here. Service is always good and food is always good. The only issue is my wife likes her omlettes Cajun style(dang near burnt)and sometimes we have to send it back because it looks runny(yuck)but Dont get it twited we love this place period.... read more

Went this spot for breakfast to go and I can say they make a mean chicken fried chicken! Not as good as mine but a close second...lol. The pricing was very reasonable for what you get and the food was pretty good. I ordered there and the wait was very quick. First time here. It's a place for lunch and breakfast in an old KFC building located in a seedy area. I walked in and it was busy. You seat yourself. The menu is not impressive and neither is the service. I had the avocado toast sandwich, it was something I could make at home for a lot cheaper that $8. Woke up & decided to have some homemade breakfast, googled a couple of spots in the area and came across Franks. Granted, I'm a review reading type of gal & not going to lie the initial reviews had me slightly deterred... I figured everyone needs a chance , so I decided to go ahead & pop in! Slightly overwhelming initially ONLY because I've never been to Franks and didn't know that it was a self seating type of establishment. After being seated our server Ken showed up & showed nothing less than AMAZING service! From his personality to his service, to say the least I was very pleased. They offer liver in gravy, country fried steak, chicken fried chicken, pork chops, catfish, etc. They also offer the option of half n half-for those who like both grits and hashbrowns-me! They cook your eggs to order, and their grits have the right consistency-not gritty or soupy. I got the fried catfish, eggs, hash browns, grits, and toast. The catfish was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right-you didn't HAVE to add hot sauce or tartar sauce. And the toast-I normally don't eat toast. Usually it's too crisp/hard, no taste. Horrible service!!!!! We, a party of 3, came in at 11:50 AM.... it's now 1:09 PM with no food or utensils. A Larger group of people who sat AFTER us got their food BEFORE us. We asked for the manager. INSTEAD of SPRINTING to the kitchen to get our food and correct the issue, she went to camera tapes. She came back to our table WITH NO FOOD to tell us "Ma'am, you actually came in at 12" Whattttttttt!!!!!! I've already been here twice! And on each visit, my food came out fast and hot! They have great breakfast choices on the menu & each of my servers were attentive. My husband and I tried this place out on Christmas Eve for brunch and I ate the Chicken Fried Chicken Salad and he got the Chorizo Scramble. My salad (at first) was good and I could not eat it all so I brought half of it home. Later on in the day, I tasted it and some of the chicken strips tasted funny. I spit it out and threw the remainder in the trash. Later on that night, boy did I pay for it!!!! The worst stomach ache EVER and diarrhea. Not good to experience this into Christmas morning!!!! The good thing about this place is that it's really cheap, huge portions, and they have a drive thru! However I was not too impressed with the eggs and hash browns. The biscuits were good but kind of dry. I didn't like the atmosphere it seemed dirty and cramped, and it was really hot in there. Come here hungry! We stopped in for breakfast Sunday morning and it was packed and for good reason! Huge portions and so many options to choose from. They had stuff on the menu that I would never, ever think of putting together, like fried catfish and waffles. I mean... fried catfish for breakfast?!? Also, they have these breakfast tacos that are huge and really tasty! We walked in and were greeted immediately with a wink and a big smile from the lady standing by the register. She told us it was seat yourself, so we did. Our waitress was really laid back, but friendly. We ordered the wings and waffle, a ham taco, and a bacon taco and split everything. The tacos are stuffed with meat, eggs, cheese, and hashbrowns!! They were both so good. The fried chicken was good and crispy, though I didn't find that it was very well seasoned. My Aunt and Uncle went here on July 12, 2020 and ordered the chicken fried chicken and there was hair in the chicken (see pictures). The hair was actually cooked in the chicken smh. The waiter was notified and took the plate. The manager comes back with the check and says I took the OJ off. SERIOUSLY!!! The manager advised that it is their policy that if you find hair in your food you still have to pay for it. They tried to reach out to the GM and haven't gotten a response back yet. We decided to try this place out for a nice Sunday breakfast, based on the other reviews we read on Yelp -- we were not disappointed! When you first walk into Frank's, it doesn't feel all that special -- nothing catchy about the decor or the furnishings. Very non-descript. While there is nothing physically setting Frank's apart, you can't help but feel you've stepped into some familiar place, where everybody is super-friendly, and most of the staff knows the customers by name. It was clear there were plenty of regulars there, and we weren't quite sure what to do -- a sign by the door says to "seat yourself," so we grabbed a nearby table -- but there were no menus on the table... At this point, I should share with you that I sometimes get a small amount of anxiety about trying a new place, especially one that has a different mode of service than I am used to. I don't mind going to a restaurant where you'll be sat, and a server will come and get your order, and that's the way things happen. But in new situations, I become very self-conscious -- I'm thinking situations like a sushi-bar for the first time, or a Mongolian Grill, or a fondue restaurant. The uncertainty of what I should be doing creates anxiety for me...I guess mostly I don't want to look or sound foolish. This is a weird thing, because I'm usually very self-confident, but in this I sometimes falter. So, back to the review -- we're sitting at this table, with no menus, and I'm beginning to wonder if I was supposed to grab a menu, or maybe order at the counter -- within a couple of minutes, however, a nice person came by, gave us menus, and took a drink order. The drinks were brought over (water for me, coffee for the wife, though they didn't bring enough creamers -- only one! And when she asked for more, they brought her two more -- for those who drink a lot of creme in your coffee, I guess you can see the problem in this). A couple of minutes later, a different server came up and took our order. A little bit after that, a different server brought our food. Yet another server checked on us to see if everything was ok. It seemed like everybody was stopping by to check on us. THAT was pretty cool! As for the food -- it was all pretty great! The pancakes my wife ordered were pretty big! Not the biggest I've ever seen, but still a great size, bigger than the plate they were served on. The bacon she got with the order was also pretty amazing -- thickly cut, and perfectly cooked. Probably some of the best bacon we've had. I ordered two eggs with a hamburger patty. The eggs were awesome, the big mound of home-made hashbrowns that came with it were awesome, and the hamburger patty was tasty. I wish they had asked how I wanted it cooked, because the meat was perhaps a bit over-done. Next time I'll ask if I can get it done medium or medium rare -- I know, I'm an unhealthy son of a biscuit...speaking of biscuits, OMG these were the biggest biscuits I've ever seen. Each biscuit would be about TWICE the size of a regulr big biscuit. In fact, my wife split one of the biscuits in two, and the remaining half looked like a regular big biscuit by itself. VERY nice! This place also offers a drive-thru service, which I think is pretty awesome for a greasy spoon like this. The refills were fast, the bathrooms were acceptable, the staff was great. My cousin and I went to this place after church. Let me first start off by saying they give really good food portions for the price. I had the chicken & eggs, hash browns with mushrooms, onions, jalapeños, & tomatoes, with toast on the side.... I know it sounds like a lot but it wasn't lol.... Let me just say that CHICKEN was the best chicken I've ever had in my life!!!! It was fried perfectly it was so crispy... Oh yeah I also had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream... Let me just say awesome is an understatement when it comes to their waffles.... The place is self seating and a little small. If you go at a reasonable time you should be able to find a seat. Our waitress was GREAT! She worked very well under pressure while keeping a great attitude. I live 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. A friend and I stopped by Frank's. He's eaten there before and I needed to be in that part of town. Nothing fancy, but quite a few folks coming and going all the time! Found a table and was greeted by a very nice waitress. Decided on chicken fried steak with green beans, okra and onion rings. Also asked for unsweetened tea. She was very prompt with the tea and the kitchen is open so you can see them cooking! Wasn't long before she brought our food. Nice portion of chicken fried steak. The white gravy was very good, not the usual paste you get. The green beans were absolutely great. I know it sounds crazy raving about green beans, but they were really good and FRESH. The okra was typical out of the bag fried but good and the same for the onion rings. The service was stellar, never had to ask for refills or anything and they were very busy!!! Bottom line, would I go back? YOU BET! I noticed, even with it being lunch, there were many people ordering breakfast.
