What a nice little local comfort food place. I was immediately greeted by Terry with a handshake when I got to the table, very nice server enjoyed his humor and helpfulness. Got the daily special, which was catfish cooked my way fried shrimp and two sides. Everything was good, the shrimp and the catfish seemed like it was already cooked and just warmed up, but it was still a good flavor so if it was fresh, I would've given a five instead of four. I'm thinking they were pre-cooked due to the fact that it was the daily special. I will go back and try the grilled catfish or salmon next time since the flavor was very good. read more

Everything we ate here was top notch fried pickles and jalapeños; Came with ranch and horseradish sauce. Perfectly fried and the sauce was 10/10. Chicken fried steak; a fan favorite. So tender, well seasoned, and huge. Fried shrimp with blackened fish; shrimp had good batter, slightly tough but delicious. Fish was the star, so perfectly cooked. It has been a while since my last review so I thought I would update it. Not much has changed which is good. My most recent visit was for the chicken fried steak entree that comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and with a side salad for $18. The salad was still good but I noticed that it no longer comes with shredded cheese on top like my picture of it from 7 years ago. Too bad. The CFS was large on the plate and tasted good along with the spuds. This is one of the better CFS's in the area. The waitress was prompt and friendly. Pappy's is a good place to eat. read more

There are a lot of different food spots to choose from in the Energy Corridor. This was one of the only restaurants that was still open for different past 8 PM. I was surprised to see that it was EMPTY for dinner when I came by at 7:45. There were probably 4 other guests in the whole restaurant. I sat down at the bar area and Michael came to take care of me. Service was a bit slow which was surprising because no one else was there... took a while to get my water and to place my order. I got the Chicken Florentine with the Texas Smashed Potatoes and Fried Okra. I then couldn't pass up homemade blackberry cobbler for dessert which hit home with a nice scoop of vanilla on top! There's plenty of bar seating and regular dining, it was just quiet and slow. Seems like a good local watering hole to check out. read more

Saturday lunchtime called for a visit to Pappy's Cafe! We ordered onion strings, shrimp fajitas, & chicken fajita taco salad. The onion strings were crispy. The shrimp were cooked just right. The taco salad is kinda like a giant chalupa -lettuce, beans, cheese, pico, quac, & chicken fajita meat on top. We enjoyed our lunch. Service was fast & friendly. Public Service announcement!! If Erica is bartending make sure you get a seat at her bar!! The bartender Erica is amazing, we came for a relaxed evening and is super friendly and welcoming offering great conversation and yummy drinks while making sure the whole bars cared for. The wait staff is awesome and very friendly too. Even when crammed with work they never make you feel bad for a question and offer a smile. The foods always that home comfort goodness and the atmosphere is a western home. It's clean and they have great music playing. My only complaint is the actual manager working tonight. I had to ask because all of the workers were busting their butts and working really hard and Dave sat at the front not helping at all which seemed really weird for a manager to not help. Normally places I go to if things need any help the managers don't have an issue. He comes across as lazy and disinterested so if you ever need a manager hope DAVE isn't working. I still am giving it five stars because other than the uncaring lazy manager the workers food and drinks were awesome and I will definitely return to sit at the bar with Erica and have my margarita. read more

I ate lunch at Pappy's weekly when they were still located a few miles east. Loved it then and love it now. I ordered the blackened catfish about 80% of the time and on Wednesdays it comes topped with crawfish etouffe. Wednesdays are great days. The daily soups are good also. Pappy's Café is an excellent place to visit many times because they have an extensive menu. This is the second time that someone in our group has had the Bunless Wonder which is a large Patty of moist beef on lettuce with a variety of ingredients on top. It includes a side. I had the creamy coleslaw, which is excellent. The coffee is good. I did not have dessert this time, but they have a variety of desserts served with ice cream. The service is excellent. We never wanted for anything. It is also a unique café because of the variety of Western items everywhere. read more

I've been to Pappy's a few times now. It's very close to where I live which makes it super convenient. I usually start with the fried onions or the fried pickles. Fried onions - they are the thin and crispy fried onions. They are very good and seasoned perfectly. They serve them with ranch, and I believe that the ranch is homemade. It doesn't taste anything like bottled ranch. Fried pickles - They are some of the best fried pickles around. Always fried perfectly, and seasoned perfectly. The only issue that I've ever had with them is, that the ones on the bottom that sit in the oil do get pretty soggy. For my meal, I've tried a few different things. I've tried the chicken fried steak, ribeye steak, BLT, chopped steak and a few others that I don't remember. Most items are pretty solid. Chicken Fried Steak - not the best, but not bad either. It's good enough to where this is the meal that I've ordered the most. One thithing is, it has A LOT of batter. The cream gravy is also good and compliments the steak well. Ribeye Steak - its not bad, but I'd have to say, if you want to good ribeye, this is not the place to go. I do feel that's to be expected. I'm sure that not a lot of people would think that this would be the place to go get a great steak. It wasn't bad for the price, you get what you pay for. BLT - I've had mixed experiences. One time it was great! The next time I couldn't really eat it. The bacon was so hard that it was shredding the top of my mouth. It was painful to eat. Maybe I went on a bad day the 2nd time. I will give them another chance on the BLT because the 1st one was so good, and, believe it or not, it's hard to find a good BLT. Chopped Steak - as far as chopped steaks, it did the job. It's served with onion gravy. It didn't knock my socks off, but I also don't have any complaints. I usually get a side salad, mashed potatoes and green beans. All are a good choice. The service Is always good. All and all, Pappy's is a solid 4 stars. Good comfort food for a decent price. read more

My sister and I have been coming to Pappy's as long as they have been around. We decided on stopping by to pick up lunch on the way home. I ordered chicken fried chicken and she got chicken fried steak. They usually give a couple small containers of gravy so we asked for extra (as we have done for many years). I went in to pick up the order and was charged an additional $2.99, twice, for two larger containers of gravy. It really rubbed me the wrong way and made me pretty upset. The bartender said she was "told" to charge us for them. Didn't need tons of gravy and certainly not $6 worth. Very disappointed. Usually one of my favorite restaurants. read more

My family has been coming to Pappy's for 30 years now (before I was even born)! We use to go to the old location down further west on I-10 every Friday! The restaurant was pretty busy on a Saturday night but it wasn't too loud and our table to easily hear each other. Our server was so sweet and attentive. Our drinks always stayed full and anything extra we needed was brought so quickly. My family ordered the chicken fried steak, hickory burger, Bubba's chicken, and too many sides to count. This place has some of the best comfort food that I've tasted. It is seasoned very well. I had the kids chicken fried steak. Add an additional side. It was way more than enough to fill meup for lunch. My server was Alexa and she was so great at explaining the menu because it was my first time here. She said everything was delicious. We were really surprised by how good the food was at Pappys! I got the guacamole burger, and my husband got the grilled salmon with the broccoli and creamed spinach sides. He said the flavor of the salmon was really delicious; it was just a bit small, he wished it had been bigger for the price (which I think was around $15). It was 6 oz of salmon. But my guacamole burger was unbelievably delicious! The bun was so thick and squishy, the grilled onions were perfection, there was generous portions of every ingredient, and the flavor was fantastic. Our traditional Friday night go to post gymnastic meal. Mac n Cheese is always on point! Chicken Fried Chicken and Chickem Fries steak never disappoints. Poblano soup is amazing and staff is the friendliest. Creamed spinach and mashed potatoes are another Favorite. And the salads are so satisfying. read more

Seven of us met at Pappy's on Saturday, June 21, 2025, for lunch and we had a wonderful time. The service was outstanding (thanks to our server, Shelly), everyone enjoyed what was ordered (quite a variety -- fried jalapenos/mushrooms, guacamole, pork chop, soft tacos, grilled chicken caesar, etc.) and we all had cobbler for dessert. Delicious! Thanks to Pappy's wait staff and kitchen staff for making our get together so enjoyable. Wow! What an amazing dining experience! Terry was our server and he was so upbeat and friendly! The food was outstanding! They even serve $4 margaritas everyday, all day. And let me tell you, they are awesome! Terry gave us a sample of the mango Rita and it was so tasty with a slight kick of heat! Iced tea is also on par and the fried mushrooms and jalapeños were great (not pre-fab food from Sysco, but as Houston old timers will know, as fabulous as Mama's and The Strawberry Patch). Terry also stuffed us with samples of the gumbo, crawfish topping they were serving on top of red fish, and cheesy bacon grits! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! For our actual meal, I had the bunless burger and fried okra and hubs had the chicken tender platter with waffle fries. The fries were actually cooked and crunchy with flavor (not like wimpy, flavorless ones from that drive through chicken place). And he had cream gravy. He was in heaven. To add more calories to our meal, because it felt like we were on vacation, I ordered key lime pie. Let me tell you that is not my favorite dessert, BUT this, too was over the top! The thick graham cracker crust had pecans in it and the lime flavor was soft and balanced, not sour. The healthy dose of whipped cream served with it was spot on, fresh and perfect. Give it a try! What a great find! Located in a very industrial area, this place is a gem. The menu is very diverse so even the pickiest of eaters can find something. My husband ordered the chopped steak, it was a huge portion, cooked perfectly and came with 2 delicious sides. I over indulged in the onion strings (big portion and so good) so I had the vegetable plate. 3 veggies for $8.99 wasn't the best deal but the veggies were good. The coleslaw was a little bland. We wanted to have dessert (the pictures on Yelp looked great) but we were too full. We will definitely be back to try more items! James is a doll! Such fast and friendly service from him. read more

I was part of a large group, 17 people. We were placed in a semi-private room. There was a table of 10 other folks already seated. They were incredibly loud and it was nearly unbearable to eat in there for many of us in my group. Thankfully once they got their food they tapered it down a bit. The restaurant itself was very decorative and quaint. Perhaps another day in the main dining area may have fared better. I ordered the eggs benedict and was not impressed at all. Eggs benedict is always my go-to for breakfast. The hollandaise sauce look like it had been sitting on the egg for a time. The flavor was the worst eggs benedict I've ever had. The hash browns were not chris, but watery. Our waitress did Hustle and take the best care of us that she could so I will give credit for that. read more
