Excellent fast service with classic steakhouse food. Prime rib was excellent. Great menu and great feel.

We live in the neighborhood and haven't been here for over a decade. We haven't missed anything. A pleasant server, but didn't know the price of the scallops and once we were served never checked in with us. We started off with small salads, the rocket and the green. The rocket was fine (though the dressing wasn't on the side as requested). The green salad was pitiful. Small, tasteless, and dull. The scallop entree with a baked potato was flavorful, but the presentation was a sorry sight. Just a big plate with a potato, a wilted lettuce leaf and a (rather small for the price) serving of scallops on it. I've seen more exciting plates served in a middle school cafeteria. The pasta with meat sauce was atrocious. A very large serving of overcooked noodles drenched in a flavorless sauce. I make my own pasta sauce all the time. It isn't hard. This tasted and looked like they opened a can of crushed tomatoes and mixed in some ground beef. No spices really detected. A few small strips of basil on the top. Don't tell me we should have had steak. If it is on your menu, it should be done well. Desserts we saw on another table looked nice. The kicker was that we were overcharged. The rocket salad as a side had a $2 up charge on the menu. The bill showed $3. They did fix this when shown. Definitely not worth the walk. read more

I have lived in Cambridge for 40 years and had seen and heard of Frank's Steak House. I went there tonight for the first time. I ordered a NY Strip Steak, rare ($27). What I got was an unattractive grayish piece of meat that had been cooked through. I pointed it out to the server who offered to cook another. But you only have one chance to make a first impression. I was not interested in a back and forth, and I managed to make a meal of a salad and a baked potato. Definitely would not go back to this restaurant. read more

We had a later reservation so we got there early and got a drink at the bar. Bar service was quick but the drinks were small. They got us into a table early which was nice. We started with the potato skins which were ok nothing to write home about fairly simple. We both ordered the prime rib and mashed potatoes with a salad. The salad was fairly basic lettuce, one chunk of cucumber and one quarter of tomato with a red onion. The meal came out fairly quick, but was lukewarm. The prime rib was decent, but didn't have much flavor without horseradish. The mashed were bland and cool. Our server was nice but just seemed very nonchalant. However the gentleman that brought our food had a ton of personality and was really nice. The restaurant itself was pretty clean and not super loud given that they were fairly full. What happened Frank? We've been coming here for 8 years and this is the worst experience at Frank's by far. We always look forward to Frank's on our semi-annual trips to Boston, but we may not be back. We went on a Monday night around 8. Plenty of open tables so seated right away. First sign something was amiss. Frank's was usually pretty full everytime we came. The place has OG steakhouse vibe with leather booths and a big bar up front. Our server was real fast and friendly. +1* for her excellent service. We ordered 3 steaks with soup. Most of the French Onion soup was pretty good - except for the onions. They had a sight strange taste to it. The clam chowder was downright unedible. One spoonful and we sent it back. Tasted like the cream was bad or something. Next up were steaks. They lacked flavor and were not up to the usual Frank's standard. Only ate half. Side were bad as well. How do you screw up brocolli and mashed potatoes? 1*. Frank's used to be highlight of our Boston steak experiences but this was worse than a mid-tier steakhouse. We're very sad Frank's food has gone downhill and we won't be returning. read more

We finally had the chance to visit Franks. We enjoyed it very much! The cocktails were great and the waitstaff were also very friendly. It's a real neighborhood kind of place we like with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The steaks were great. A few of us got the sizzling sirloins and a couple of us got the filet mignons. All great! We got the bruschetta for an appetizer along with chowders, salads and a soup. The rolls they give you are so delicious!! With butter which i personally prefer over herbs & oil like most places. Everyone was happy. All the food was fresh and we got a mix of mashed and baked potatoes, and vegetables for sides.. So let me start off by saying I've been wanting to come here for years. I've heard their food is top notch. So this year I picked Franks for Mothers Day. I was so excited until we got there. You wanna talk about stepping back into a time warp and going straight to1985. It's like the Dennys/Ihop of steakhouses. For starters it was freezing cold in there. Like bring a blanket for your legs and a jacket (not a sweater). They bring a nice salad but the cucumbers and about an inch thick. I ordered my steak Med Well and my daughter ordered Med Rare, needless to say both are steaks were wrong. Mine was overly well done and her was what I asked for. Her side of mashed potato's were a smooth light gray in color. Can't complain about my fries they were the best thing on my plate. We took about 2 bites and asked for the bill. Franks is a classic. I've never been unhappy with my food there. My advice, go as old school as possible. Ribeye. Skirt steak. Petite sirloin. Filet. I order medium, and they do it medium. Baked potato or rice on the side, and veggie of the day. I like a G&T with my steak, and they will make you one with whatever gin you like. Most decadent chocolate cake anywhere, if you're still hungry. Salt of the earth wait staff. Couldn't be happier when it's time for Frank's! read more

there are other sites that rate it higher, but I would say that yelp is more accurate. overall, the service was good and the prices are very reasonable and you can get a pretty decent meal. All our steaks were overcooked but edible. I ordered my steak, medium rare and it came out medium well. it took a little while to get the food out so it's slower than we had hoped. The French onion soup and corn chowder were fine and tasty. overall, I wouldn't rush out there if you wanted a good steak, but it's still apretty decent local meal locally. Looked up steak restaurants on my phone and Frank's came up. I didn't have a problem finding parking a couple of blocks away on the street. When I got to the restaurant I noticed two things. 1. You can tell it was an old upscale mafia style restaurant. 2. You could play the lottery in there. Now the place was doing business but you could tell it was local people. We had reservations at 7:15 on a Saturday night. We took a half hour ride to get to Frank's just to have the prime rib (which it is famous for)! We were seated and ordering drinks when I asked if I could get an end cut. The waitress was so nice, but explained they were out of all prime rib. I understand this can happen when a restaurant is having specials, but this is on the menu every night, not to mention a prime time Saturday night! The ambiance walking in is very nice here. The service is atrocious. My steak knife was dull. We asked for drink refills before our meals came and then received them after we were finished. I ordered wine when I ordered my dinner and it never came. We were sat in the corner next to the table the wait staff does their side work at. My husband ordered a ribeye and was most definitely served an unseasoned flank steak. My filet was rubbery with a hard crust. The best part of our meal my side salad. It was an off day for Frank's steakhouse. Typically they're spot on but I couldn't tell if it was Father's Day or simply our server was just having a long day himself. The good news is my husband was happy with his sirloin steak, my daughter thought her lamb shank tasted more like chicken... I thought it was okay. So I end up ordering the petite filet mignon now they weren't kidding when it was petite it was more like a 2 oz beef medallion basically taking a typical filet mignon and severing it in the middle. It was cooked just how I like it but for $25 I just couldn't justify it...maybe $18. Thank God the mashed potato came with it. Our server seem very tired so he didn't give off good energy at all and I kind of felt sorry for him. No water refills, no smile, no good attitude. I asked for cracked pepper and when he brought it over instead of cracking it over our steak he basically planted it on our table... So much for good service. My expectations for service was whatever. Dessert was decent I had their carrot cake... Nothing to really write home about. Franks is one of those places that you have driven by 100 times and because there aren't bright lights & Chain-y type signs you would miss it. So this is the reason for years that I had never been, I almost never knew what it was. Then Mom asked to go for her birthday one year (it has since become her bday tradition) but the place is great, parking is sometimes tough, staff is great, welcoming every time we walk in the door. The menu is extensive (and yes a LITTLE pricey) but you pay for what you get & totally worth it.. Because what you get is SUPER DELISH, Fresh cuts of meat. The bread (dont ask for any, because you will eat too much before the steak comes!) The sides are delish, the steaks are fresh cut and super tasty. The drinks are good, the staff is friendly! We actually just went again (and not on a Birthday) because it is slowly becoming a Fave steak spot (Ive finally convinced Mom to let me buy her better steak than Outback)! My husband and I have been going to Frank's for 40 years Our recent experience has left us with never wanting to go back. Friday night 10/25 we went for dinner with our granddaughter. We were told it would be a half hour wait. No more than 3 minutes later a couple walked in and they also did not have a reservation. They were then seated immediately. We were speechless and walked out. My granddaughter is 4 when we brought our children we were always accommodated I am not sure how the other couple was seated before us and we had to wait. We always went to Franks as our go to restaurant but this experience has left a bad taste in our mouths, being so disrespected Franks has been our family restaurant this experience is disappointing. read more

Love this place! I used to go more frequently when I worked in Cambridge. But I recently had a hankering so off I went. Not disappointed. I used to enjoy their Early Bird. It's not the same (more $ and no dessert) but for the price and quality of food, it's still a great deal. I got Chicken Georgie. Fabulous! Tasty and perfectly cooked. (Kudos to the chefs!) Also got a fresh salad, rice and a tasty roll. Love the atmosphere - great neighborhood spot. Cozy. Lively atmosphere (well, not at Early Bird!) but they have a great bar area. Great spot!
