I'm from the east coast but now live out west, so I'm always craving truly good Italian food. This place was the real deal! Loved the pastas here and would happily come back! I can see why it's so hard to get a reservation here: great ambiance and attentive front of house staff. I enjoyed the food, but I feel like their dessert menu could be a bit more built out. Food: - Pappardelle: I loved the wild boar and truffles in this. The sauce was so well seasoned, and the noodles were al dente! It was a bit hard to share just because the pappardelle noodles are so long but this shouldn't stop anyone from ordering it - Seafood linguine: this was a daily special addition to their pastas. I liked the flavor of the prawns and the texture of the fresh squid, but I didn't love the tomato sauce on this. It felt like it was lacking something, maybe a bit of spice or extra dimension. I still liked the pasta overall but given that I had to remove the entire shells of the prawns mid meal, I would have hoped that the entire dish had a more elevated sauce to go with it read more

Finally had a chance to try this spot after hearing good things. I have been visiting Boston area pretty regularly for work lately and this place has been on my list. Made reservations for 1 in advance and was able finally come by. Staff was amazing and very friendly. My waiter John was nice and very knowledgeable. Atmosphere here was very nice. I was in town visiting and was lucky enough to grab a bar spot later in the evening on a really cold night. The service -- superior. I was done making the decisions for the day so I had my server guide the experience and he was not wrong! I started with the best cocktail I had in Boston, . So good! Next I went with the Semolina cakes which were lovely. Followed that with spice crusted bluefin tuna which I devoured. We had a 5:30 reservation and that is when they open. Bar is first come first serve so the entire restaurant and bar sit all within 5 minutes. We sat at 5:32 and did not get a drink until 5:55.....Crazy. 4 courses took over 2 hours. The coursing was off for us. Glad I checked this place off my foodie bucket list. I saw so many good things about Giulia & was able to make a reservation the day of! I thought it would be super difficult to get a res or would have to book in advance, so I was pretty surprised there were times available. We walked into Giulia on a Saturday night without a reservation and and were seated at the bar after just 30 minutes. The bartender was fantastic, super attentive, friendly, and gave us some amazing recommendations that really made the night. I came in with high expectations, and honestly, Giulia delivered. The pasta special and steak were absolutely incredible -- perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The dessert was just as impressive. The only slight miss for me was the prosciutto, which was just okay compared to everything else. That said, I would absolutely go back. We walked in on a Friday night not expecting to get seats since reservations for this restaurant seem to be hard to get, but to our surprise the host said there was seats at the bar. I totally understand why reservations are so hard to come by because it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Cambridge. The staff was so friendly from the host to the bartenders to the bar back and the food was outstanding. The pappardelle with braised wild boar was rich and comforting, with layers of flavor from the juniper and black trumpets -- easily a standout dish. The emmer farro casarecce was lighter but just as delicious, with the burrata adding the perfect creamy touch to the mushrooms and snap peas. We also shared the focaccia with Umbrian fava bean crema, and it was the perfect start -- soft, fresh, and paired beautifully with the flavorful crema. To top it off, the espresso martini was one of the best I've had -- smooth, balanced, and not too sweet and had a cute "g" on top with cocoa powder! My server had great recommendations and regularly checked in on me and had great recommendations. I ordered 4 things: Hiramasa crudo $24- it was a perfectly balanced fresh dish. Great start to the meal. Paccheri with spicy beef and pork sausage $29- this is THE best dish I ate my entire trip. Hands down from start to finish it was delicious! The pasta was a perfect al dente, sauce was light, meats were savory which was perfectly balanced with complementing flavors of the broccoli rabe and tomato. I could eat this regularly and would come back just for this dish. So good! Tagliatelle $30- sadly this dish was disappointing. The pasta was soft and flavor was lacking. I don't recommend this dish nor will I get it again. Vanilla Bean panna cotta $15- this was the perfect ending to my meal. Now vanilla bean is my fav ice cream flavor so maybe I'm biased. The pan a cotta itself felt like I was eating soft clouds. The accompanying strawberries and cookies added such great texture and flavor. Man so good. You MUST try! Reserved a spot 2 weeks prior to our anniversary on a Tuesday night. Inside is SO cozy and cute, packed on a week night at 8:30. We ordered some slices of fresh made focaccia to start which was nothing special but nice and freshly made (we simply just wanted some bread to munch on). For meals we shared the duck wing ravioli (4/5), Butternut Squash Agnolotti (4.5/5) and House made lamb sausage (5/5). I honestly think the portions were fair for the pricing and the quality is amazing. All ingredients were fresh and well done. Our server was AMAZING. The chicken liver was the best we've ever had and the other appetizers and entrees were also excellent. They also feature truffles, which were expensive, but worth it. Chicken Liver Crostini: (7/10): This was fine. Tasted good, but not really a must-have. Canederli (8/10): Our waiter recommended this, and it was the perfect dish for a frigid winter night. The mushroom conserva was so good. The broth itself was also comforting, with a nice splash of acidity. Pappardelle (10/10): This was the star of the night. The wild boar was incredible. The sauce was also so good. Pasta was nicely al dente too. Squash/Sweet Potato Agnolotti (7/10): This dish was good for the first few bites, but I feel like it could be an appetizer or a dessert. I don't think I would enjoy eating this if I ordered it as an entree for myself. It's a little bit too sweet, and there's nothing to balance out the flavors of the squash and sweet potato. I feel like it could benefit from something salty or acidic to balance it out. Hazelnuts were nice to switch up the texture, though. Overall, this restaurant was a little too expensive to justify. I would come back for the wild boar pappardelle, but the other dishes weren't as amazing. I was really impressed with how quickly dishes came out on a busy weeknight. It was like I would place my order and poof it appeared. Reservations are near impossible to get, but there was a good amount of bar seating on a weeknight to be able to squeeze in if you don't have one. The pink stripe oysters were out of this world. So many flavors in a small bite. Fruity, tangy, sweet, salty, umami. Amtriciana was almost as good as what I've had in Rome. The only improvement IMO would be guanciale instead of pancetta, but their house cured pancetta was still amazing and I loved there was enough bacon for each bite of pasta. Overall: our large party reservation included everything and more that you could imagine. My Italian coworkers even gave it the nod of approval so I think this one's legit guys! Disclaimer: we had it prix fixe so apologies if the dishes aren't on the menu. Food: there's a lot to processs but the highlight pasta was the wild boar ragu. It's definitely on the meaty strong bold flavor side but it was sooooo worth it. The boar was fall of the bone tender (no bone though) and the pasta sauce was like a bolognese kinda? So super hearty. The other one was the I think swordfish large plate and the refreshing ocean feel really balanced out the plates. For the appetizers all of them were to die for. The semolina cakes were so moist. They did a special kinda prosciutto esq dish that was mouthwatering. The burrata with the stone fruit was so nice and creamy but not rich and heavy. For the dessert we had a zucchini bread panna cotta which was so creative. The gelato that came with it matched perfectly. There was a chocolate one as well that my friends really liked but I don't eat chocolate unfortunately. Ambience/Decor/Service: so this place is pretty upscale and cute. More like a finer romantic restaurant rather than like a hot popping place like Barcelona wine bar next doors. I liked the light airyness of the semolina cake, but I don't think I would order it again. It's different than your traditional starters, but this is not something I would crave esp for the price point from the truffles. Versus the boar papparadelle is definitely something I would crave and get again. The pasta itself was perfectly al dente with lovely texture and thickness, and each bite was delightful with the boar, trumpet mushrooms, juniper and parm. For me the portion size was just right, and left room for the raspberry semi freddo which was really good. Deep raspberry flavor paired magically with the lemon meringue and amaranth. I was surprised how much I loved dessert. Service was generally good, but confused me initially. Our server came over and seemed reserved and had a bit of "I don't want to be here" vibe when we asked about recos. Once he got going he seemed more engaged, but I found it odd we had to draw it out of him at a place like this. Then Instead of cooking a new one, they proposed taking the original one and cutting off the charred portion. That would leave me with a mangled partial duck leg that was likely still overcooked, instead of a properly cooked whole duck leg. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant?? Nowhere else that I've had duck has burnt it like this and thought it was ok to serve. Especially for a Wednesday night, every table was full and we luckily snagged a last minute table days prior on open table by setting an alert. The ambience was pretty casual. The food which I'll begin with first, was the best part. The focaccia, semolina cakes, and oysters were all good but the real stars were the penne rigate and scallops served over a black/tomato rice. The dishes were unique, delicious, and not as heavy as you may expect them to be. Portions for the meals were appropriate, though the apps were very small portions ( probably could have more than 2 oysters for one order). We shared the affogato for dessert and it was good but not the best. That all being said, the food was 5/5 especially the mains. So I get the hype for that. I would love to try more of the pasta dishes in the future. The service however was super slow and disorganized. They had one server for majority of the tables, so half an hour elapsed between sitting and ordering and then another 20-30 minutes lapsed between apps and mains. We came so hungry so the wait times were not a highlight. For a 8:15 reservation probably didn't even get to eat until 9. The server mentioned specials but didn't really go into or highlight items on the menu, mainly because he had no time to between tables. If I go back I would probably try to get a bar seat to enjoy the food and have more face forward service. read more

I honestly have nothing bad to say about this spot. It's a must-try in the greater Boston area, especially if your budget allows for it! Two of us stopped by on a Thursday evening to try to get a table and were told the wait would be over an hour. We put down a phone number and got a call within 20 minutes that there were seats available. We were seated at the bar instead of at a table, but the bar was a really nice experience because the bartenders were friendly and super helpful with the menu. The drinks were excellent, too! We ordered a tartare dish that wasn't printed on the menu, the chicken liver crostini ($8), prosciutto di parma ($19), bucatini all'amatriciana ($26), papardelle ($30), some focaccia to mop up the sauces ($1/piece), and the blueberry upside-down cake ($14) to finish the meal. We were stuffed by the end of the meal. All of the dishes were incredible! I especially enjoyed the chicken liver crostini. It was packed with so much umami flavor that I was salivating while I ate it. The tartare was fresh and tasty and I would recommend it to anybody who likes raw beef. The prosciutto was rich and savory and came with sweet, juicy chunks of melon. I went into the meal expecting to prefer the papardelle over the bucatini but was pleasantly surprised to find out that I liked the bucatini more. Both pastas were prepared to a perfect al dente and had plenty of savory flavor. Whereas the papardelle had a very homey, earthy savoriness to it, I loved the brightness and tanginess that the tomato-based sauce brought to the bucatini. The tanginess paired perfectly with the crispy, sometimes fatty sometimes meaty pieces of pancetta, and everything was tied together with creamy pecorino. I'm glad we did not skip on the desserts. The blueberry upside-down cake had sort of a strawberry shortcake vibe to it. The highlight was the brown butter frosting which had so much caramel flavor. I was lucky to grab a reservation at Giulia (around midnight 2 weeks before). There does seem to be bar seating for walk-ins, but it filled up fast. Overall there were a couple of items that I enjoyed, but the rest fell a bit flat for me. I think the sister restaurant Moeca is more up my alley. Great, would get again - Tooker Out cocktail ($16): This was described as a tiki drink by our waiter, and it was really delicious! I liked the touch of the "g" imprinted on the ice cube. - Focaccia with white bean dip ($10): Delicious bread with great texture, and yummy dip. Moeca tends to have a more sour dip so I appreciated the flavor on this one. Fine, probably wouldn't get again - Wild striped bass ($34): While the skin was nice and crispy and the fish was decently cooked, this wasn't particularly special. - Warm semolina cakes ($16): This was decent, but the flavors were a bit too acidic for me. - Tagliatelli ($29): This is a pretty good serving size, and quite hefty and rich. Didn't stand out to me. - Beef brisket and prosciutto tortelli ($42): Not many tortelli, and they were a bit too al dente for my taste. Truffle doesn't add much (other than to the price). - Strawberry cheesecake gelato ($10): I didn't like the gelato -- too gloopy and heavy. I enjoyed the crunchy parts and the cookie. Moeca definitely has better desserts. The restaurant has a pleasant ambience with good service (and 3% kitchen appreciation fee). The total for 2 people came out to $172 before tip. Don't get me wrong, it is very good, but the amount of food you get for the price you pay is too high. The interior has a warm, dim lighting that gives nice ambience for dinner dates. Service is very good, no complaints about it. For parking, its street parking only. One of the finest Italian restaurants we have been to in Boston . The ambience was superb the food par excellence. John who was our host made the best recommendations for sfizi we savored the unicorn pink stripe unicorn pink stripe oysters (rhubarb & muscat , warm semolina cakes (sungold tomato crema, formaggio caprino al tartufo, Antipasti chickering farms porchetta (grilled rosemary flatbread, basil pesto, fresh tomato, parmigiano, In Pasta sweet corn agnolotti (chanterelles, tomato, pappardelle (braised wild boar,the special linguini with calamari and grilled sea bream in a Tamato saffron sauce with bread crumbs , for dolci vanilla bean panna cotta with local strawberries, basil, balsamic and butter cookie crumble , And the very delicious gelato with pistachio. While I found the menu somewhat limited, everyone in our party found something they loved for dinner. As an example, the pappardelle tasted homemade and had boars' meat that gave a wonderful flavor to the pasta. While we choose one of the least expensive of the white wines, it was a wonderful, unique Italian wine that everyone appreciated.
