I loved the vibes here! Between the DJ and decor, it was such a cute space. I think there's a few kinks that need to be worked out, but 100% worth trying again. Maybe they were understaffed? Our food took a while - me and my sister got the same thing and mine wasn't cooked correctly. Eggs were overcooked and sausage was sliced super thick and undercooked. I visited Top Mix yesterday and the experience was disappointing. The service throughout the night was not good, yet we still left a $27 tip. What really made the situation uncomfortable was the waiter bringing up the tip and saying she was "trying to be transparent" about it. Regardless of the intention, discussing or questioning a customer's tip directly can come across as unprofessional and awkward. Tipping should feel appreciated, not pressured. I hope management works on improving the customer experience and professionalism moving forward. read more

My first but certainly not last time at Top Mix and they knocked everything out of the park from food, vibe, to service! The restaurant has Latin & Caribbean cuisine and sets the bar high. The restaurant itself is stylish, modern, fresh, clean, upbeat, and lively. They have a beautiful bar with high tops along with spacious dining room seating. The restaurant is absolutely stunning, with fresh greenery and beautiful lighting dangling from the ceiling. A perfect spot for a girls night out or even romantic date night. I also loved their Latin playlist they had on in the background while dining. I had the Guava El Viejo Margarita and it was the perfect touch of sweetness and so refreshing. The Churrasco Steak was flavorful and juicy. It comes with trifongo and broccolini on the side. The best trifongo I've ever had - A great blend of sweet and savory. Came here for an early dinner before a movie. Basically just did a variety of apps. The food was pretty good overall, was a little disappointed with the Bang Bang Brussels Sprouts, they seemed a little undercooked and the tempura was falling off them. The mocktails were delicious though! I think my only complaint was that the server didn't come by to check on us for a while so all the drinks were empty and we had to wait to order more food. Top Mix Bar is officially my new favorite spot. It's a clean open layout with a high end bar near the main entrance boasting some amazing drinks. There's a lot of nice tables and booths throughout the place that have window views. The ambiance is great with friendly staff and amazing Latin music. Had zero complaints. The food was cooked to perfection. They do take reservations if you'd like a specific time. Our dishes include white rice, beans, grilled chicken, sweet plantains, a salmon salad bowl and a trifongo made of sweet plantain, green plantain and yuca. For desert we shared a tres leche cheesecake that was unlike anything I've ever had. Simply put, this place is a fun eating experience. You often seen staff come around with instruments and desert cake with a candle celebrating many birthdays throughout the evening. Can't wait to go back. read more

Terrible service! The server clearly knew what an awful job she was doing because she added an automatic 20% gratuity for herself when our table was a party of two. I have never known a restaurant to do an auto gratuity for a party size that small. If anything, she should have discounted some of our bill. Just saying "sorry I'm new" every time you decide to walk by just doesn't cut it in this economy. At one point, she sloped all the leftover food together onto one plate that left it on the table in front of me before wandering off. Definitely did not leave me with an appetizing memory of my meal or the restaurant. I live nearby and been here a few times before and would maybe come back for the bar service (past experience with bartenders have been good), but not wasting my money to sit at a table with servers who pay themselves what they don't deserve! UPDATE: I spoke to the manager and apparently all bills over $100 get an auto gratuity of 20%. The experience was so bad I feel like I was penalized for ordering more, so my advice is to visit here for a drink, and maybe an appetizer and nothing more because the more you order the worse the service and you will have to pay for it. read more

Located near the Alewife MBTA station, Top Mix Bar & Kitchen has opened their Cambridge location at Urbane at Alewife. This restaurant and bar has a modern atmosphere with ample rows of tables & booths and seating up at the bar and TVs in the bar area. The TVs were showing college sports, but no NFL games including the hometown team. I don't blame them for not showing the hometown NFL game, which was brutal. There is upbeat Latin music playing over the speakers. The bar offers 12 draft beers, bottle/can beers, wine, seltzers, cocktails, martinis, and mocktails. The food menu offerings have Latin and Caribbean influences including a selection of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, combination plates, salads, and vegan food. The pricing is moderate here. I stopped by Top Mix in Cambridge over the weekend and sat up at the bar. I was given a menu to look at and a glass of cold water. I decided on a Combination Plate with Chicharron De Pollo ($21 plus tax) with Monfongo. My plate of food came out 18 minutes after ordering. The chicharron was comprised of 6 chopped chicken pieces (bone-in) which was crisp on the outside and juicy meat, olive oil for dipping. The mofongo was very dense with mushed plantain and bits of pork in the mix. Some of the pork had very small pieces of bone, but otherwise the mofongo was very filling to eat. After I was done, I requested the check which was $22.47 with tax and before tip. Overall, it was pretty good and the service was adequate. read more

I've been to Top Mix before but this was my first time at this location and I loved it! First of all, the location is huge and beautiful! There was artwork all over the place. There was music playing but at a reasonable volume. I came for a group dinner (10 people) around 6:30 Pm on a Wednesday. We ordered a bunch of apps - we tried the sampler platter, pastelito flight, and mango buffalo & sweet chili wings. I loved the wings mango buffalo wings and the tostones from the platter! We were wary to dig into the pastelito flight because we couldn't tell the flavors apart and we had some diet restrictions. I ended up with a cheese one and it was good! I would suggest they label or change the shape of them to help people tell them apart. Based on another yelp review, I ordered the steak with trifongo with chimmicurri sauce on the side. It was so delicious! I was very full so I didn't eat too much but I'm so excited to have those leftovers later. I did save space to try bites of everyone's dessert - I loved the flan and the cheesecake! I washed everything down with spicy margarita and they were good - get the full Tajin rim! Parking was a little tough to find and I wished our server came to bus our table more frequently - it did get pretty full with plates by the time we got dessert. Wow what a great place to eat! It had lots of space on a Friday night which was nice but they do take reservations. There were so many options we tried a handfull. To start we had a few cocktails and cocktails all packed with a fruity punch! For appetizers we got the plantains and fried cheese, shrimp plantain and guacamole bites, and plantains with guacamole. It isn't very crowded yet, though I suspect that will change over the next few months as more people discover it. On a Tuesday evening, it was easy to find a table on short notice. Dianny our server was very friendly and amazing, though there were some of the opening wrinkles to work out -- it sometimes took a little exploration to figure out where the caipirinha flights belonged. The food was fantastic. Personal favorite was the plantain chips and guacamole. There's a thing often said in any creative art, which is that doing anything simple is harder than complexity, because of how perfect your execution has to be. Their plantain chips were perfect. Not oversalted. Thin enough to snap when you bite them but thick enough to hold a big heap of guacamole. Amazing. The drinks were good! We weren't there for the drinks, so my partner had a caipirinha flight and I had a bebesota, sweet and polished with caramel notes and a lot of depth. Our entrees were solid. Particularly of note was the trifongo that came with my partner's steak. A plantain and yucca mash, it was clearly someone's childhood comfort food: delicious. We will 100% come back. read more

The food was below average--our group got an app sampler that had a variety of fried apps that were dry and lacking in flavor. The drinks leaned heavily into being very sweet. The server was kind but slow, probably a bit understaffed as they're a new spot. None of the four of us particularly loved the entrees, (fish, a chicken bowl, a burger, tacos). Everything was a bit lacking in flavor/spices or character. There was a huge TV at the end of the room but the game they had on was about 30 minutes behind the broadcast. Weird vibe there. Absolutely disgusting and bizarre for a fried item. Our server was nice and offered to have them remake the app, however the damage was already done and my stomach is currently cramping up. Currently throwing up. The app was not comped. In the future if you serve a table raw food and put them at risk of food poisoning, have a manager visit the table and comp the item.
