This diner is a diamond in the rough. It is a lot bigger than it seems. The bathroom was spotless and smelled clean. We were greeted as soon as we sat down in a booth, you pick where you want to sit. Typical diner vibes, I love this; old photos, classic seating and counter bar with the old stools. I had the triple decker club with fries and a side of gravy. My boyfriend had the all meat omelet with home fries and toast. I didn't get a beginning picture because it looked so good we instantly started eating. The club was perfect and very filling. I had left overs. Something about the turkey and ham that elevated it, didn't taste like the common lunch meat club. The fries are battered and absolutely delicious. The gravy had a thick consistency of that of homemade. If it wasn't homemade, it was some of the best packaged gravy ever. My boyfriend said the omelet was great. Lot of meat and very tasty. The home fries were crisp. Everything came out hot. The prices are great. We were checked on several ties by various staff( not too much to be annoying). Everyone was Sooooo nice. They make you feel like they really want to make sure that you enjoy your meal. The outside isn't much to look at and it is at a truck stop but don't let that deter you from stopping in. There is a store with various essentials and also several games. Frank's is one of the best diners with homemade food that we have been to. I really don't have any complaints. I'm not usually a fan of the "mom-and-pop, old school" truck stop vibe -- most of them feel like a museum exhibit for how not to run a business. But this place actually earns a solid 4. Yes, they charge for parking, but let's be real: everyone does now. The showers? Not the Ritz, but at least you can tell they tried instead of just spraying some Febreze and calling it good. The food was surprisingly solid, which already puts it a step ahead of the roller dog lottery at most stops. What really pushes it over the edge, though, is the customer service. Friendly, helpful, and they actually make you feel like more than just another DOT number rolling through. For me, that's worth an extra star all day. Great service. Very friendly and professional navy veteran as a server. The maintenance man by name of Chester chec bathroom like every 5 mins. But what I didn't like about the bathroom which bugged me the fuc out was. In the stall, if you sitting down, the next stall got too much visibility in your stall. That shit gotta get reconstructed. That's literally my issue. My privacy. Had the dude been a creep he would've kept looking my way. But to my luc he didn't, pause. But yeah. Everyone seems to want to be there and want the business to grow. Love it. The chiccen and dumplings were awesome w salad on the side. I enjoyed the conversation. Very old school vibe. This is my go-to place when I am on the road in the Norfolk area. I have had the chance to meet the new owners, and they are genuinely interested in breathing new life into this truckstop of a bygone era. They do have some minor inconveniences. The showers are smaller and less updated than a TA or Flying J. They also have had staffing issues in the past, which necessitated the business not to be kept at 24 hours. However, the restaurant was good, the people were generally friendly, and I felt safe being there. I would rather support this small, family-owned business than a large-scale commercial operation. read more

Food was decent, prepared fast. Good portions for the price. The waitress on the other hand was a zombie. No personality, no energy, no give-a-damn. I would grab food to go it I was passing by and hungry and eat it in my truck but would not go out of my way to eat here. I rank my decisions to eat somewhere again as: 1 star - if someone else buys it I won't eat it, I would rather go hungry. 2 star - if I'm hungry, no other options are open and someone buys it - I would consider eating it 3 star - I'm ok with eating it as long as someone else pays 4 star - I will eat again and pay for it and be a semi-regular customer 5 star - I will travel for good food and pay good money and be back on a regular basis and maybe even pay for yours just so we can go read more

Franks is a throw back type of truck stop/restaurant. We've reviewed them before and really enjoyed it. Most of the employees are excellent...but there is always that "one" Not sure of her name but she has the coldest personality and has ZERO business being a server. The first picture is of her. There are two other servers that we have encountered and they are more than friendly and do an excellent job. I'm not sure if it's the pool of people that Franks has to choose from or if it's their pay rate. Either or, in the long run, it's not a really bad place to go. read more

I got out of work at 5 AM today on a Sunday morning and needed some good breakfast. Most places that I like open later on Sundays and most places are not open at 5 AM on any day. I haven't been here in years and I remembered they are open 24 hrs and it is not far out of my way. I came here for breakfast this morning (and my wife joined me) and we enjoyed it. I was very happy to see they still have real Hash Browns. I got a ham and egg sandwich which was great and the Hash Browns. They had onions in them - the way I like them. I like mine cooked more - almost burnt - but they had the grill off for a while for cleaning so they were not done as well as usual. Still good though. My wife had French Toast with a side of bacon. It was good too. The service wasn't fast - but it was friendly and steady. No problems. I'm looking forward to going back. This place is in the Bowers Hill area and right by where I-664 turns into I-64. The have some items that you don't see everywhere like salt herring and eggs. Best thing about this place is their home fries...it comes with corned beef mixed in. Yes, that may seem confusing because it sounds like corned beef hash. But the pieces of corned beef are small while the chunks of potatoes are not. The Virginia Ham is a bit on the small side so I suggest the Ham Steak if you want something much larger. There's plenty of seating and a handful of stools at the counter. Breakfast isn't cheap but at least it's good, which is more than I can say for the service. The waitresses were definitely going at it while my brother-in-law and I had breakfast. I'm sure they have a love/hate relationship. And the service is slow going but friendly. Payment is made at the cashier window. It can take a while though, the cashier does triple duty as the cashier for the convenience store, restaurant, and window counter. I had the Smoked Sausage and Egg Breakfast which came with your choice of biscuit or toast and grits or fried potatoes. Well... I ordered take out and the service was fast . However; I was not aware that 15% gratituty was automatically charged on each ticket . My meal was originally $5.99, I added cheese to my eggs $0.50, tax was $75 and gratituty was $0.97. My total ticket was $8.21 When I got home I noticed my order was incorrect; I was given grits instead of fried potatoes. I only live about 6 miles away from Franks, so I took the food back and explained what was incorrect about my breakfast dish. Well, the short fluffy older waitress was disgruntled and took the bowl of grits from me and then yelled back in the kitchen "I need some potatoes". When I tried to hand her the take out box that had the remaining food in it, she told me "I don't need that". I expected for my food to be cooked entirely over; being that it had gotten cold and I had to wait on potatoes. When the fluffy women returned with my potatoes; I told her I would like a refund because the other portion of my food had gotten cold. She said "uh" really loud. I explained to her again and then she says loudly "ok" and she took the continers of food and walked off. In order to get a refund I had to speak to the manager. I HAVE NEVER SEEN GRATITUTY ADDED TO A TO GO" ORDER. I am aware that gratituty is added to a party of 6 and more. What if you receive horrible service and the waitress still got her tip. read more

Horrible, horrible food! Roast beef was like sandwich meat not the juicy chunks of roast beef you expect. Mashed potatoes were just plain old instant potatoes. Biscuits were flat as a pancake. Couldn't even enjoy all you can eat spaghetti night because it was awful! The reviews on other places said this was a good place but it is not! After a long drive stopped her to rest, eat and fuel up. The dinner food was amazing! Chipper strawberry blonde waitress with great personality and a cook that I would love to take home to cook for me!! Played a round on machines and got some candy in store. All very nice helpful people. However, a few hours later go back in for a fresh drink. The store and restaurant are both CLOSED. Even tho site says 24 hours. Man in grill area unmasked says the fuel area is open with some bottled drinks. I ask how to get to that side and a lady comes to the window growling you have to have a mask in the building. My boyfriend and I decided we were going to try this place out, and as we were pulling up a man stopped us. He told us to not eat there because said it was the worst place he has ever been to. Since he said that we were eager to try it! We walked in and the smell was a bit off but you got use to it. We did not belong there. We were greeted by an unpleasant women who most definitely wanted to be somewhere else. We both ordered the pancakes, and they came out really quick. The look pretty decent. I took a bite and they were not bad, but after my second bite I noticed a long white hair in the pancake and I felt so sick after that. I didn't want to be a pain so I just ate the other pancakes. After we left we both felt a bit off. I was sweating profusely and we both had to shit really badly. So we raced to the nearest place to use the bathroom (home emporium) and they didn't have one. Then we ran as fast as we could across the parking lot to Big Lots and at this point I'm clinching so hard because I feel it coming out. We hurried into Big Lots and the Men's bathroom was closed and the women's had a line. We were running out of time so we hopped in the car and sped off to Kroger. there was only one bathroom open and I beat him to it. He told me he was going to Dick's Sporting Goods to cure his stomach pains. That was 15 minutes ago... haven't heard from him since. I hope he's okay. I'm currently still on the toilet in Kroger writing this review. I am give this place 3 stars because this is an unforgettable experience and I will cherish it forever. I haven't found anyplace that has better home fries. Don't get caught up in the decor. I have found the fancier the place the worse the food. I hate the Ruby Tuesdays and Applebee's of the world. My spouse had a blown tire on the trailer last night. He arrived at 7 pm at the Costal garage for a tire repair. The garage was closed even though the online advertised hours are until 8 pm. He limped the load to the delivery and went to the TA in Richmond, VA afterwards. The correct hours should be posted. read more
