I needed a new, high quality vacuum cleaner so I went to Frank's and met with Andy. I wanted an upright, bagged model from a specific brand- unfortunately they no longer make the upright. I was resigned to buying the more expensive bagged canister, but I changed my mind entirely after talking with Andy for about 20 minutes. Andy was very knowledgeable about the brand I wanted but pointed out some issues I hadn't considered and showed me a Riccar upright model. It checked all the boxes: upright, HEPA bagged, powerfulHEPA filter, charcoal infused filter, came with attachments, and was less expensive than the brand/model I initially wanted. Andy also showed me less expensive, high quality alternatives I'd never even heard of and encouraged me to come back after doing some research for a few days! Andy was so thorough and knowledgeable, and he taught me so much that it took about an hour before I went back and bought the Riccar he initially recommended- and I am so glad I did! This vacuum is everything I wanted and it comes with a 3 year warranty; if anything goes wrong, I can just take it back to Andy a few minutes away- no shipping or standing in a long return line. Old fashioned service and honesty! I came in thinking I needed to replace the head on our Miele vacuum cleaner because the brushes on the hardwood floor side had completely worn down. But rather than just sell me the expensive replacement, the guys showed me that while the original head had a base plate of metal, the newer, replacement models now had plastic. They suggested I keep the old head, which still works great on carpet, and get a replacement head solely for hardwood floors. It was cheaper, comparatively well made, and featured large brushes and a nice swivel piece. I followed their advice and the new piece works spectacularly. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain to carry the separate head to different rooms, but it works so much better than the dual action head that it's more than worth it. And again, considerably cheaper. I dropped my vacuum off for repair 2 1/2 weeks ago. Was told they would call me with an estimate. 4 days later, I hadn't heard from them, so I called to inquire. Was told "you're 5th in line, we'll have it to you in the next 3 days" in the most condescending way possible. Never heard from them again. So yesterday I went to the store and was told "we've been really busy, you're 4th in line." again very condescending. So in 2 weeks they wrote an estimate for exactly 1 vacuum??? Felt like I was being bullshitted and talked down to. This is my go-to place whenever I need anything related to vacuums (he repaired my old one for years, one that my mother handed down to me in 1980) and when it did finally die maybe ten years I bought one from him that is still going strong. He's done some minor repairs on it after I (oops) did something to damage it, and it's still going strong. But it's for sewing machines that I love this place, and after 20 years or so they definitely have my trust. I have bought two machines (a high-end Janome and one of the little easily portable Janomes) from them over the years, and I think Harlan (the owner; I guess he bought from "Frank" a long time ago) and Andy have magic talents with them. They maintain my regular-use machines, including my beloved Bernina 930, which is my favorite machine and the one I use most, and they will restore older machines if parts are available (my Singer hand-crank and treadle machines, for example). Plus, they are just nice people. You can be confident that you get talent, experience, and attention here. Oh, and yes, you might be surprised to find that it costs a bit to get this work done, but you are going to find it everywhere. His prices are not out of line for his service. Great service, stellar repair. I took two broken sergers here for repair. The main gentleman who I assume is Frank, told me they weren't worth fixing...they are what is referred to as the disposable sewing machines... He wasn't wrong... The Brother machine was only $140 and Franks minimum charge is $.85... so it made sense. I agreed to toss the Brother, but the other one was my mothers Singer serger and is older than I am. It's very sentimental to me. Frank understood this and was happy to take it in. He also commented on how if it was older than I was it meant that its a much better machine than the same Singer in stores today. In either case, it took him a week, he fixed me right up and she was ready to come home. Quick, to the point and easy to communicate with. Thanks Frank! Background: Hubby and I were looking for a reliable, sturdy, well-engineered vacuum to keep our home clean. We both suffer from dust allergies and by talking with store rep Andy, we learned our broken, bag-less egg vacuum we currently had likely contributed to the dust problem in our home, not reducing it. As it was bag-less, dust was actually escaping from our vacuum while it was in use, evident by the dust along the crevices of the waste compartment. Andy then highly recommended we get a vacuum utilizing a bag. Hubby and I needed a powerful, versatile vacuum that could vacuum all types of surfaces, specifically tile floors, new fluffy carpet, and rugs. Andy addressed these concerns and gave an in-depth discussion of vacuum engineering, types and brands. We played with a German-made Miele vacuum machine, which we ended up liking and purchased that same day. Since Frank's did not have the specific Miele vacuum we wanted readily in stock to take away, we gave a deposit and Andy put in an order for us. We learned that should we ever have a problem, Frank's was an authorized repair center for Miele vacuums in particular. They also could do repairs on just about any other vacuum brand and type. I found Frank's on a word-of-mouth recommendation when I was living in Glendale. They restored Doris, my 60s sea-foam green Janome sewing machine (a $20 thrift store find!), to perfect condition. For around $200 they cleaned, repaired and tuned her up and replaced the original electrical cord that was working sporadically. Now for the price of a new budget machine, I have a kick ass, heavy duty, all-metal-parts wonder. I use my sewing machines a LOT and, like most people I know, don't have them serviced nearly as often as I should. Inevitably they break, and I make them limp along until the project is finished: "It's ok! I don't need to reverse stitch." or "I guess I can make this whole dress with just a zig-zag if that's all that's working." or " I've got plenty of needles, you can keep breaking them. Just DON'T STOP WORKING!" A machine that deals with an admittedly negligent and overbearing owner needs a good shop to give it some TLC. Fast forward a couple years. I've moved from Glendale and, trying to save time, have taken Doris to a couple of different shops for service. I didn't know what a gem I had in Frank's! One shop flat-out refused to work on the old girl. Another told me that "sometimes these vintage machines aren't worth fixing", tried to sell me a new one, and then begrudgingly agreed to the repair when it became clear that they weren't getting a sale. They kept her for a week and "fixed" her only to have the same problem, and some new ones, emerge after a couple hours of sewing. If I wanted someone to play around all willy-nilly with Doris' innards, I'd get out the toolbox and do it myself! Having had enough shitty service, I finally returned to Frank's today for repair and tune-up. I can't say enough about how great the staff at Frank's are. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. They didn't try to sell me any of their merchandise or used equipment. They were delighted to see a vintage machine in use and have more of a "wow, they don't make 'em like they used to" attitude (damn skrate!) rather than "gross, this is old, and it reminds me of my creepy aunt's house." Frank's is one of those old-school service-oriented businesses where the people say "hello" and "thank you" and "yes, we can do it". They are very up-front with accurate estimates and do the work in an expedient manner. So - lesson learned. Even if it's a hike to get to Montrose, it's worth going to the right place. Amazingly, the part was available, and they were able to fix my baby back into what feels like a brand new machine. These guys are the real deal. I called to verify the store was open, and then took my vacuum in. I expected it to leave it for a couple of days, but Andy fixed it on the spot and sent me on my way. AND they welcomed my greyhound in the store, who was waiting in the car. The problem was with a roller that had stopped spinning. Andy installed a new one, charged a reasonable price and helped my carry the vacuum to the car. I love this kind of family-owned, personal service.
