My relationship with Chuck's began in 1982 when I could only afford used appliances. They sold me good ones, and when I bought an ancient O'Keefe and Merritt stove from my landlord they kept that cumbersome old beauty running for another 35 years. I love that stove, and Chuck's has the increasingly rare technicians who know their way around it. They can find parts in flyover country someplace....Meanwhile they service my modern appliances, and sell me my new ones. My attempt at a quick purchase of a washing machine from Best Buy was a nightmare. I was delighted when that pos died and Chuck's sold me a brand new commercial washer from Speed Queen, like the ones in laundromats.....I'm 78 years old. I just hope the business outlasts me. This was possibly the worst experience I have ever had with this appliance company. I have used them once in the past, the process was an easy one. Had them order and install a microwave, no issues there. But ordering a simple part for my LG fridge has been a nightmare. The technician came for $145.00 for a simple service call. Looked at my fridge for 10 minutes, told me what he would do, order the part and apply the service call fee of $145 to the order and labor. Okay, that's fair. Said it would take six weeks. That's a long time, but okay, I understand, most parts are from China and it takes a long time. Three weeks later, they said they needed my credit card to order the part. Okay, again, I understand. But they should have done that to begin with. Then we wait six more weeks and set up a time for the technician to come out. He comes out and looks at the fridge for 5 minutes and says the part they ordered won't fit. Wrong part was delivered. This is sounding suspect. Okay, we are now told to wait an additional six weeks for the part to be reordered. I hear nothing back from them for six weeks. I call them and leave multiple messages. Get a guy on the phone says he'll relay the message to the owner. Nothing happens. Call back three weeks later. A young lady talks to me and says I will be a priority and will call me back with an ETA. That was three weeks ago. Tonight I left another message. I think I'm done now. They wasted three months of my life calling and complaining. I know I won't be hearing back from them till after the holiday. Would love to complain to BBB. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! Very Nice Over The Phone, But I Was, Way Over Priced For Parts And Service Was Not The Greatest. Save Your Self Some Money And Do It Your Self. Youtube nowadays Have Tutorials On Almost Everything. I found the part on eBay for $28 for a damper control. They wouldn't charge me like $200 The thermal stat device the charge me $100, eBay had it for $25. They were so rude that it was almost funny, like a scene out of a bad sitcom. My microwave was tripping its circuit breaker. I did a little searching and I read that bad switches can sometimes cause this problem. I asked if they'd check the switches. Technician said all switches were good, there was nothing to seemed apparent, so I was charged $110 for nothing, but was told the work is guaranteed for 30 days. The same day, it tripped again. I called them and they wouldn't send their technician back out to have a second look, and instead said it was probably my circuit breaker. My panel was a bit old and had been on my mind, so I went ahead and got bids, got a contractor and had my circuit panel replaced. $7000 later, it tripped again, this time likely popping a fuse (since the Microwave has no power, but the brand new dedicated circuit does). When I call back, they were incredibly rude, at one point condescendingly retorting, "I owe you $7000?" To which I tell them, "No, you owe me a service call." They were going to charge me $20 for the fuse to even test it and were adamant that it was likely the magnetron tube which would cost upwards of $300. After having to really force the issue, they offered to credit me the $110 service call, but I have no confidence that they are going to do anything but try to force a $300 part on me regardless. I am so pleased with the service I received today on my old wall gas oven. Oscar gave me a heads up on the time he would be at my home! He could fix my old Kitchen Aid gas oven. Other repair people told me I would have to replace my oven. Oscar saved me a lot of money and new cabinet work! I will definitely use Chucks Appliance Service again in the future! read more

So far I have been waiting 24! hours to receive an email with the information necessary to determine a repair vs a new purchase on my Bosch dishwasher. After spending $125 to determine what's wrong, I would think an email would be delivered in a timely manner... or at least an explanation of why it's been delayed. Repair con-artist. Chuck's Appliance wanted $250 to repair my washing machine which I agreed. Then they said the part was no longer made and unavailable, didn't I want to spend $1600-$1800 with them instead for a new machine? They charged me $125 for the service call anyway. Then my adult son found the (new) part for $12 on Amazon and fixed it for me. I asked for a refund of the $125 and they've ghosted me. Be careful. read more

Horrible service! The first guy they sent was awesome and though he said the item couldn't be repaired, he explained the whole process for replacing it and what type of replacement appliances to consider. When they sent different guy to install he was completely clueless. He refused to even try. i left several messages that weren't returned until 4:00 on Friday afternoon. The manager refused to listen to the issue, and told me I got the wrong item. I tried to explain that his own employee (the first guy) described the whole process, and I can see what needs to be done. But the second guy couldn't understand it and couldn't think beyond the simplest version of putting it in. He wanted to bypass screws instead of unscrewing them and attaching them to the appliance as needed. I can understand one employee lacking knowledge, but the but the Manager just copped an attitude instead of trying to understand and resolve the issue. read more

I finally just had my freezer gasket replaced after taking off work for a third time to meet the repair man because Chuck's Appliance ordered the wrong part twice. Not only was it expensive, but they were unapologetic for having ordered the wrong part twice and making me take time out of work for pointless visits. I should have just paid the initial service fee and gone to someone else. I don't recommend using this store. read more

It was a complete miracle I found this place, and the exact used appliance I needed. I give them 5 stars for service and just plain helpfulness. I purchased a lightly, barely used stacked washer/dryer ( miracle to find what would fit in my word, awful, tiny space) from them. My space was really a difficult one requiring lots of maneuvering and patience and expertise. Their service was patient, stellar and friendly! I will continue to use them!!!! read more

We were not pleased with Chuck's. We won a $300 credit toward a dish washer and were really pleased to be keeping our business local but Chuck's has made me think twice. I think for some things, like repair work, it would be ok but for buying a big appliance not so much. So my hubbs picked out a dishwasher on the basis of the recommendation of the store. We were willing to pay more for a really good and quiet dishwasher. the installer came out and installed it (didn't do a very good job according to my hubbs) and it is the LOUDEST dishwasher I think I've ever heard. So much for an expert opinion. When my hubbs called to complain and maybe come to a resolution, he was greeted with disdain by the owner and a "well, you bought it." And also, come to find out that it was about $150 overpriced at Chuck's as compared to let's say SEars. Ok, I get that he's a mom and pop and can't afford to give rock bottom prices. I get that. But make up for it in service....PLEASE!!!!!! The customer service was terrible. Please, just have someone come out and make sure that it was installed right and there are no problems causing it to be loud. WE ARE LOCALS. In the end, I don't know if I would ever patronize a store like this again. It makes me sad. I want to buy and stay local. :( read more

I was told their technician is in the store early and when I showed up at opening time at 8:30am and stayed for 15 min. No one was there.

As a result of my own business experience, I understand that the weakest link we have as is the covert that pretends to be the team player but isn't. Maybe that's why the competition sent a guy out who told me they charged me for repairing my appliance but in fact, did not. It took Chad from Chuck's Appliance Service to get to the bottom of the matter and get my suds maker back in order! I ordered a refrigerator from Chuck's or as I now fondly refer to it as Uncle Chuck's. Uncle Chuck helped me find what I was looking for within my budget, gave me insider tips on which models his technicians trusted the most and were easiest to get repair parts for if needed the difference between a few days and 2 weeks. That information is vital when you have two toddlers. I couldn't survive without a refrigerator for two weeks waiting on repair parts. I'm very happy with my refrigerator! Some time ago, had hoped to use a local company for my refrigerator repair but was very disappointed in the lack of knowledge displayed by the technician who basically just looked at the refrigerator and said it would probably need a new motor and we should buy a new one. This was a fairly new frig so got second opinion and they were able to fix issue. Honesty, service and attitude are attributes I look for when dealing with a company and the lack of these at Chuck's Appliance means I could never recommend them and will never go back again. read more

Chuck's Appliance (Oscar) repaired my aged dish washer in situ quickly and for the price of the service call. Luckily it didn't need any parts - the power junction was simply burned to carbon. Luckily it hadn't shorted out and destroyed the controller card and didn't appear to damage any other internals. Oscar diagnosed this quickly and the dishwasher is up and running (fingers crossed). read more

Needed our dish washer repaired. Technician came out, determined the problem, and completed the repair. Dishwasher has run "like a top" ever since. Two months after the repair was made "Chuck's" followed up to inform us that there was a billing error. We were overcharged $83.00. A refund was given. That kind of honesty sadly doesn't occur in these times. Kudos to Chuck's, and you have a new lifetime customer. read more

Chucks is great! I love supporting small businesses now more than ever, as dealing with big box stores often leaves me on the phone on hold for 30 minutes for any problem or question. Chucks has been very helpful with advice over the phone and they got me a good deal on a stackable washer/dryer. The washer needed repair in it's first year and Chuck's advised me through the warranty process with GE, which I appreciated. read more

- A year or so ago (2012) we bought a refurbished stove from Chuck's--a nice old Wedgewood about 50 years old. The service techs at Chuck's were EXCELLENT. Came and trucked away our old stove and installed the Wedgewood in a jiffy, and followed up ultra-diligently with a couple minor glitches that were totally, 100 percent fixed that day. We were impressed. Everyone in the store and the techs who came to our house were polite, well-informed, and absolutely professional, and the price we paid was also quite reasonable. I WAS A LOYAL COSTUMER FOR 20 YEARS BUT NOT ANY MORE. It saddens me to write this bad review. The last time I used Chuck's to repair a refrigerator they were expensive $$$$ and the repairman was not as polite as the one that I had used from Chuck's for many years who had left the company. It wasn't the same level of service for a reasonable price. I don't look for bargains. I just look for a reliable company that gives reliable service run by decent people. After my last experience with Chuck's I decided I needed to find a new appliance repair company. My friend recommended Spencer Service in Pasadena so I am giving them a try tomorrow to fix my LG front loading washing machine. I'll tell you after the visit if that went well. read more

I used Chucks Appliance Service to replace the washer hoses, dryer exhaust vent and the gasket on a GE French Door refrigerator. I only had a problem with the gasket replacement. The old gasket was cracked but not leaking. the repair was done and Chad came out two additional times and said nothing was wrong but the gasket would NOT stay in the grove of the door. Tony, their refrigerator guru, came out twice and on the second time recommend that the gasket be replaced. I spoke with Paul and he said that I would have to call GE since he had no idea on how to get the gasket replaced under warranty. I asked for the invoice which he refused to share. Tough to get a warranty replacement without an invoice. I would call the manufacturer in the future. read more

Repairman promptly came out to service our KitchenAid oven yet after the service call we didn't hear from anyone. After a week we called the shop and they noted the item(s) needed were on order and would be in their shop in a few days. At that point they'd call and schedule an appt. Very poor communication and no sensitivity to a home without a working oven. read more

Sooo...not so happy with these guys. My wife and I live in South Pas and always want to keep our money in this community when we can. We have an LG washer which was in need of service and maintenance. We called Chuck's group and had someone sent out twice...and did nothing but tell us we need to order a part but should be able to use our machine... We went ahead and used it and whatever issue we were having caused smoke to billow out of the door when the load was done....smelt like burnt rubber...clearly we shouldn't have used the machine. We then were told we need to order a new gasket and have it installed which would arrive on Wednesday (Oct. 28). My wife just got a call saying the gasket is 3 weeks out and we need to pay for it in full before they order it. Sadly...we are in need of another appliance service group and cannot suggest using Chuck's. He was incredibly rude. read more

Despite reading the reviews, I still decided to go local as I live very close to Chucks. I have never had any huge complaints with any s. pas businesses so I figure this is a long standing local business -they must be good. Every business has people who don't like them but doesn't mean everyone has a bad experience. No they don't, I didn't have a bad one, mine was an AWFUL experience. I feel angry because it was obvious the man who came over was determined to make money off me by telling me I needed a new garbage disposal practically immediately. I told him before he even started that I hope he will do his best to fix it because I am on a tight budget this month. Instead, the service person turned it on and off a few times, moved the blades around, then pressed the reset button and then cranked the bottom a few times, told me I needed a new one. Cost $380. I then asked him how much it would cost to remove the whole thing and he said, $280 as they needed to redo the plumbing. I simply said can he try to fix it again? He turned it on and off a few more times and told me I needed to replace it. My car recently broke down costing me $1700 to fix so I literally sat on the floor with my hands over my face.. so stressed was I. I said, I will probably leave it and use the other sink. He said "You really don't have the money huh?" Then cranked the bottom again a few more times. Then after a minute of cranking he turned it on and it was working perfectly. What can I say? He obviously did not try very hard the first two times if it worked after him cranking it a little more. As he left I asked him how much it cost, and he said they will bill me later. I said I would like to write the check now. He then said, he didn't have the receipt book and had to walk down stairs for it. I said I can't write a check without a receipt. He was unhappy. Then he charged me $20 extra dollars for "fixing" it. I really would have thought the $65 service fee they charge for just coming to have a look should include cranking the thing a few times.. I don't know if that is normal practice but I still felt not a lot was done. I don't know how others would feel over the extra $20 fee but regardless, I wouldn't call them again nor recommend this business. I really would like anyone who comes over to try their very best to solve a problem before recommending a complete replacement. What would have happened if I had the money? I would have had it replaced when an extra five minutes would have saved me $300. I, like the woman above is disappointed as I try my best to frequent all the businesses in the area even if I know I am paying a little extra. I want ours to be a thriving community. I loath to write this review, but I worry others are going to be forced to buy a replacement when they don't have to. read more

We had a problem with our LG washing machine, it was smoking at the end of a cycle. I immediately stopped using it and began to look for repair service. As I live in South Pasadena, I always try to keep my money in town, using local providers for plumbing, automotive, etc. I had friends that mentioned Chuck's but were little hesitant as Chucks had changed ownership. I read some of the reviews and thought I would give it a try. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO MY FRIENDS! Not only was the "best serviceman they have" totally incompetent but, PAUL the manager was totally unprofessional, interrupting me several times when I voiced my concerns, but entirely dismissive. When the service man came out he was here for 20 minutes, he started the machine (empty) and basically looked thru the window of the machine the entire time. He left in the middle of the cycle and said- "it looks fine. You can use it, no problem". The next day I went to use it and it was exactly the same- smoking and smelled like burnt rubber. I then called the office and demanded that someone come out again. This time, the same service man came, he pulled the machine away from the wall, looked at it for 10 minutes, (never with tools, or adjusting or anything, just like spaced out looking at the back of the machine). he then pushed it back in place then went to the from t of the machine and began pulling and prodding the drum (where the clothes sit for the cycle) and spent about 7 minutes explaining to my husband that the gasket was loose. He then ran in circles when we asked if a new gasket would resolve the problem. He just kept saying the same thing never answering the question. He said he could order the gasket and let us know in a bout a half hour how much it would be and when he could return. He also stated, "you can use the machine, there is no problem". That was Friday at 12ish. We never heard back from him.in the meantime, I started a load of laundry and this time the machine was making such a crazy loud sound, and it was smoking and totally burning rubber! We called the office and sent an email to Paul who didn't return the call until Monday. He stated that he would get the item by Wednesday and he could install on Friday. On Wednesday I heard from Paul who said not only is it on backorder, but won't be available for 3 weeks. Also, the item is $139 and I have to pay for it now. That just totally sent me over the edge. I researched and found the item online at several different vendors of $25-65 not including shipping. Needless to say I will not be having the work done by these inarticulate, simple, incompetent and unprofessional individuals. It is so sad when a business goes to hell with the new owners. read more

Service charge of $65 seems reasonable and field service rep. was very polite and friendly, but cannot give them a higher rating because they don't communicate well internally or externally. If they feel they've satisfied the issue they don't return the customer's call, even after being requested to do so. They also don't apparently listen to their voicemail messages very often or in a timely manner, which almost caused me to pay an extra $200. Repairman showed up 4 hours after I cancelled the call. Wow, we had a total First World Problem of the dishwasher breaking! I called all over LA to viking repair places. Everyone said the next apt would be two weeks out! Ack, dishes for two weeks?!?! Things were getting desperate. I called Chuck's and he said 3 days and I accepted. Surprise he had a cancellation and called me to come the same day! Yay! We were not happy with the service from Chucks. My mom wanted to have the ice maker work on our fridge. We called to have the ice maker connect with the pipes to send water to it, but we ended up with only the tubing there and no water source for the ice maker. The installer said we needed to switch a valve from hot water to cold water. He then charged us for his work. He didn't check the valve first to make sure all the work could be done then and there. There was no consideration on their part for our needs. We would have liked to find a better deal to get all the work done instead of half of it. The price he gave was overpriced based off other business and reliable sources. All we wanted was a working fridge but now we have a headache and no ice. I would not recommend anyone to use Chucks Appliance Service. read more

No other repairman would return my call because I had already bought the parts, but Chuck's guys showed up and quickly and neatly did the job and our dryer is working perfectly once again. This shop is great. It is old fashioned, honest and the people are wonderful. Paul was very straight forward, respectful and quite knowledgable. I don't understand the other folks that have posted bad reviews on Chuck's. They've been in business since 1942, are a LOCAL company and are quick.
