We chose Neoteca to celebrate Mother's Day. It was outstanding. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by an organized staff ready to make sure our celebration was perfect. I attended a Happy Hiour work event here and was impressed with the modern, casual, yet slightly elegant atmosphere. Our group was seated in an area near the bar, which provided an opportunity to sit, stand and mingle. We had a variety of appetizers that our host pre-ordered. It included a Caprese Neapolitan-style thin-crust pizza. It was very good with crispy crust topped with fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and drizzled with olive oil. The truffle fries with aioli were very good. The fries were crispy and topped with parmesan and herbs, and a creamy garlic mayonnaise. Bruschetta was good, nothing special. The crust was perfectly charred, the flavors were bold, and everything tasted super fresh. The vibe is relaxed, the wine list is great, and it's the kind of place you'll want to come back to. Everything about our dinner was incredible. We started with the Gamberi -- head-on blue prawns with Italian salsa verde -- perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The Chicken Parmesan was crispy, tender, and beautifully balanced, and the Honey Brioche Toast for dessert was a show-stopper. Really enjoyed our first dine in experience at Neoteca. It's been recommended to us a few times, so we finally tried it. The restaurant has an open and modern aesthetic, with a mix of tables and hi-tops. There's a good size outdoor patio as well with a lot of tables with umbrellas. The menu has a mix of appetizers, salads, pizzas and pastas. Enough options that we'll plan to go back a few more times to try more items from the menu. On this first visit we ordered the grilled chicken salad and the hot honey pepperoni pizza. The grilled chicken on the salad was grilled to perfection and had a lot of flavor. The hot honey pizza was good, crisp crust, and a good balance of savory with a hint of spicy honey. Honestly, I wouldn't mind more of the honey flavor. We enjoyed our first trip to Neoteca and will be back to try out more of the menu. read more

When here to celebrate my granddaughter's 18th birthday--at her suggestion. There are a variety of what looked like great dishes on the menu, but we tried the wood fired pizza. My wife wife had a Margarita pizza, I had one with meat, and our granddaughter had a dinner salad. Everything was fantastic and our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Highly recommend. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile so I'm glad I was able to finally check it out. Upon arrival I opted for patio seating since our dog was with us. It was pretty hot out but the patio seating was in the shade so that helped. We didn't wait long to order or for the food to come out so that was nice. Dog friendly - Yay! It's not easy to find dog friendly restaurants in the suburbs (ie. Schaumburg area) so I'm happy when I can find one that is! -Our waiter didn't provide a dog water bowl but another waitress saw our dog towards the end of our meal and provided us with one. Parking - plenty of free parking available Food Chicken Parmesan Panini ($15 lunch special) - the panini comes with a side salad (a good deal). The panini was okay, a little too salty for my taste buds. The salad was okay as well, complements the panini) Truffle fries ($11) - comes with aioli dipping sauce, overall it was okay. Seasoning was just right. Burrata wood fired pizza ($19) - the pizza was okay (not the best I've had). It was hard eating the burrata cheese (that's in the center of the 'za) with the pizza. New ownership is making small but important changes. I'm obsessed with the truffle fries, they are crispy, delicious and enhanced by the aioli. I was surprised by the arancini, I don't usually like peas, but they were bright and fresh and complimented with a hint of red pepper. The caprese pizza was incredible, my favorite thing I've tried so far. The French toast dessert was new and a great finish, very well balanced. My husband and I ate there tonight and everything was sooo good. We started with the brussel sprouts appetizer which was crunchy and amazing. My husband had the Soprasetta Pizza and I had the Airline chicken special. Both of our meals were served hot and tasted delicious. This review is purely based on the old vs. new Neoteca menus. As long-time visitors of Neoteca, our family of 5 all agreed that Neoteca was our one of favorite Barrington restaurants. The updated menu unfortunately has changed all of our opinions. Many of our favorites have been removed/replaced from the menu, including the classic house salad, the calamari (now it's a calamari/shrimp/cauliflower mix), warm olives, cheese curds and pesto gnocchi. The whipped ricotta focaccia was mushy and had little/no taste and the vodka sauce is much more tomato-based than previous. We will likely be back to try the pizza but it has definitely fallen out of our 1-2x/month rotation of restaurants to visit. read more

Casual Italian is a good description of this restaurant in the middle of downtown Barrington. It has kind of high prices, but it's good quality drinks and food. Neoteca isn't the only Italian restaurant in town, but it's the best one I think. Main items include the pizza, and there's plenty of shareable appetizers. There's also a happy hour for cheaper wines as well as small bites and plates. A few things are pretty expensive but some are more affordable. It has Italian beer such as Peroni for $6 in a big glass. There's also a happy hour on weekdays. It has a lot of pizzas that are pricy. These are about $18 each or so, which sucks but these are pretty nice though. Salads are a little more affordable. There's a good looking Kale Salad that's one of the few vegetarian items. For sure it's one of the healthier choices. This comes with apples, arugula, and walnuts. Big salad, helping with the kind of high cost. This is good for a lunch. For sure it's kind of expensive. It makes up for it kind of with good quality. They're also pretty fast at getting food out and there wasn't a long wait like many Italian restaurants. read more

We wanted to give Neoteca an out as I heard some chatter about them. Parking was easy in the back of the restaurant and was nicely greeted when we walked in. The restaurant was not very busy in the back of the bar right next to the kitchen doors. Not a very desirable spot but just went with it. We waited 5 to 10 minutes and no one came to check on us or ask us what we wanted to drink. We finally asked one of the staff walking i to the kitchen and he found who was there our server...who was sitting at the bar talking to one of his peers. We got started and got drinks ordered. The diet coke my wife ordered was not diet coke and could not find him. We finally got the bus staff to get a replacement. We ordered bruschetta and our main dishes. The bruschetta was not very good... had raw onions which overpower the bruschetta... not happy strike two as we couldn't find our server again and our drinks were empty. Our main dishes came out from the kitchen staff and noticed my wife's salad was drowning in a lot of dressing. There was a pool on the bottom of the bowl. The margarita pizza was okay... but had way to much sauce ... flavor was mmmeeh. Service remains poor and we find some to complain to and then found our server / bar tender. He took the salad off the bill and at this time we are done. The experience was poor. Food was not very good ... service was very poor and surprised since it was slow in the restaurant. My two cents ... take a pass on try Neoteca. It's not at the level of service and quality I would come to expect being in downtown barrington. Pizza is less than ok though...maybe we had too high of an expectation. Considering we have to drive 30min to get here, we probably won't go back. The pizza was chewy yet, no structure nor depth. If i removed the prosciutto from the white pizza, it would tasted like melted kraft mozzarella on a chewy flat dough. The prosciutto placement along with the arugala looked like a dumpster on the dough as well...For the price, I would expect something executed a bit more gourmet with higher quality of ingredient. I personally don't think its the best place to eat with kids, though there are some menu items for them. I do like this place and service is nice, but it can be a bit pricey for what you get. Whipped ricotta bruschetta: This was so good!! The consistency of the ricotta was super creamy with a hint of honey. The bread was toasted to the perfect crisp. Very yummy! Truffle fries: I had high hopes for these fries but they were just ok. The truffle flavor was good however the fries were thin, flimsy, and soggy. Calamari: The calamari was also just ok. Not as crispy as I was hoping. Prosciutto crudo pizza: My pizza was pretty decent. I love the idea of everyone ordering their own personal pizzas. The pizza I chose has the blanco (white) sauce. They gave a good amount of pizza toppings. Cookie skillet: Cookie skillets are probably my favorite desserts at restaurants. This one one was good, I just wish the cookie base was thicker. Love Neoteca! They have a large selection of wines, mixed drinks and beers to choose from. We split a Caesar salad to start, always fresh and I love the cheese and fresh bread on top. I get the Hot Honey pizza, and my husband gets the Carne. My 1.5 year old can be picky lately, our server told us they could do several different options for him, so they're super accommodating for kids. Must have been an off night for our server. Slow, not very attentive and lacking in common sense. Friend and I both had the same meal. Needed boxes to take home for leftovers. Server grabs our plates and another friends. We are all thinking to ourselves "there is no way she will know which dish is whose when packaging." She returns with my friends and mines same dish. I jokingly ask her if she knows whose is whose. She says "I probably didn't get it right". Well she DIDN'T. Not a very sanitary practice!!!! My friend and I had to figure it out. Thank heavens we are friends! Then I ask for a coffee and baileys at the bar because she is no where to be found. Comes back to the table and says we don't have coffee. But then backtracks and says we do, but she would need to brew a fresh pot. Ok?!? And?!? I realize it's towards the end of the night BUT....you brew a pot of coffee for your customer!!!! What if I wanted another glass of wine?!? Would she have told me you "I can't open a new bottle oof wine because it's towards the end of the night?!? Hope this establishment reads these reviews. Monica and Liz were friendly Hostesses and the Waitstaff Nate and Henry were great - attentive and knowledgeable. My daughter and I enjoyed wine and cocktails. Decided to give this place a try since it was rated so good. We went for happy hour for the $6 Peronis. Turns out, their draft beer taps were not working. So instead of getting a $6 pint of beer, it was $8.50 for a 12 ounce bottle. Pretty steep in my opinion. Got the bruschetta and was pretty bland in my opinion. The pizza is ok.
