Thankfully, while we were on our way to buy the part, Mr. Veraj called us to let us know we actually only needed a simple connector which cost us less than $25 instead. I was hoping it just needed a Freon recharge. After checking the A/C system, Frank confirmed that the Freon was just low and everything else looked good. Luckily, her older car uses the newer, less expensive Freon. I just hung out while he recharged the system, and it was ready to go about 20 minutes later. The cost was only $150, money well spent to get ice cold air conditioning back. The most recent visit was to troubleshoot a service error code and ABS and brake warning lights. I was hoping this would just be a sensor on one of the wheels, but Frank said it looked like the main ABS ECU unit was faulty. Given the potential cost of the repair, it didn't make sense given the value of the car. I appreciated his honest opinion. He said there was no charge, but I still tipped him for his time because he always takes great care of me. I have tried a few other shops in the area over the years, and had initial good experiences. They noticed my hybrid battery cooling fan was missing after I told them I just had it "replaced" at another shop. That's the kind of information you don't usually get from a repair shop. It still took the amount of time they said it was going to take, but still discounted me a little bit which I thought was cool. I also had them do an oil change while it was there, and even that was less expensive than what I normally pay at places like Jiffy Lube or Valvoline.
