I usually love the food BUT TODAY‼ For starters the air wasn't working so it was hot like we were frying like some chicken in the oven and speaking of chicken upon my arrival there was no fresh chicken and when the chicken finally came out an hour later I didn't get a piece because they only brought out about 15 pieces and the people waiting for fresh chicken had taken it all. never again will I come here I'll go to western slizzlin in DUNN. Most everything was fresh and tasty. The ribs were good and they usually are not at a buffet. Fried, baked and bbq chicken was all good. The pulled pork had too much vinegar in it and it's never been like that before so I am not sure what happened this time. We will be back again! read more

Places like this are exactly why I love Yelp. We were driving back from Charleston, and looking for a place to eat right off I-95. Without Yelp, we would have had to eat fast food; because we had Yelp, we had excellent southern soul food. As soon as we saw the place, we knew we were in for a meal; people were parking their Caddies on a grassy hill, and the line stretched around the side of the building was full of local families still in their Sunday finest. Even though we were 50 people back, we were seated in 20 minutes (but we never felt rushed while eating, which is the easy way for a restaurant to turn over tables quickly). The buffet was overflowing with goodness. In order of preference: 1) Chopped pork (in sauce): The meat wasn't as smoky as I usually like it, but the sauce on the table was outstanding, nearly as good as the sauce at Lexington #1, which has the best Carolina-style sauce you'll ever find. Overall a MUCH better barbecue than I was expecting at an AYCE buffet. 2) Fried chicken: Normally buffet fried chicken loses its crunch in the chafing pan, here it turned over quickly enough that what was out was still crunchy from the fryer, and it was still steaming and moist. This was really quite good. 3) Shredded pork (without sauce): It looked a little dry under the heat lamp, but a little bit of sauce on it and it perked right up, also a good choice, and with a little more chew to it than the chopped. 4) Ham: Nothing special, but who doesn't love a slice of moist ham? 5) Beef brisket: Good flavor, but not as tender as it could have been. Yes, there were vegetables and sides as well, but with so many good southern soul-food meats to choose from, why waste valuable stomach space? read more

If I had my choice I would have gotten there early, eaten my fill, climbed up on that big wooden table with the red and white checkered plastic table cloth and took a nap. Then when I woke up I'd eat another meal with a million calories. I know it's not good for me.. I don't care either. The selection is fantastic!! Salad, Food and dessert wise.. wow! My husband loves the Mac and Cheese. It is not expensive (around $10 per person with a drink ) and they offer a military discount **BONUS!!** There is so much food out there you will have to go back to try it all Don't miss the desert table and the salad bar they are both great! I am Mexican so my grandmother never cooked like this but I bet many people's grandma's cooked like this on Sunday Dinners. One complaint is the size of the drink glasses, they use child size Mason jars... cute but very inconvenient. They also have a breakfast buffet. One of the best buffets I've ever seen. Huge selection of quality and homemade country style cookin'. There are some unique items that you won't see at other chain type buffets. The pricing is ridiculously affordable. This place is great if you have boys on their growth spurts. The lunch price is an unbelievable value at $7.xx. I gave them 2 stars because all the servers were so sweet and attentive. Also, for the yam patty. Yes, they have a lot of food. More than I expected. But, quantity over quality isn't the best way to run a business in my opinion. There wasn't anything impressive about the building or food. The food was either bland or sweet in an odd way. The mac and cheese had an excessive amount of black pepper in it. The booth seating was just hard wood nailed together. The place overall didn't seem especially clean. The air conditioning consisted of a dirty standing fan and then a window unit A/C unit that in no way could keep such a large building cool. The lighting seemed dim and just added to the overall feeling that the place is falling apart. I'm not sure what the fuss is about and would not return. read more

My husband and I ate here tonight and would HIGHLY recommend the: fried chicken, Lima beans (butter beans), corn, sausages, mashed potatoes, peas, meatloaf, biscuits, banana pudding and the blueberry cobbler. The only items worth mentioning to avoid: chicken tenders were salty and chicken livers were overfried. That being said, I would try both items again on my next visit. The staff were ultra friendly and polite. The building and tablecloths appear worn yet clean. I look forward to my next meal here! The food selection really is incredible. I had BBQ chicken, Lima beans, mac & cheese, meatloaf, chicken pot pie, green beans and corn. The corn had been taken right off the cob, it was so good and when mixed with a couple other veggies made a killer makeshift succotash. The dessert table is absolutely crazy. They had at least 10 kinds of pies. Something I really appreciated was that each pie slice was already on a place and plastic wrapped. The peach cobbler was very good. Service was excellent. This place is hands down a 5 star buffet to satisfy everyone. We went on a Friday for lunch, paid $7.99/adult and $4/child. They offer almost every kind of vegetable and side you can imagine and it's all incredibly good. I loved the fish, BBQ, shrimp and all the sides. For a buffet, I honestly don't know how they make it all so good. Fred Chason's Grandsons is super casual and very busy every time I've been for lunch or supper. While living in Fayettevile from 2008-2010 this became one of our favorite buffets in the world. My wife is from Northern Sweden and we have lived in over 7 countries and travelled to over 140. So we are pretty experienced and know that our opinion of best in the world is valid. I was back in Fayetteville in November 2018 and went out of my way to eat here and brought friends from Germany, Malawi, Chile and Finland. They all loved it! The BBQ chicken was just as succulent as I remember it, not dry and not dripping wet, but perfect and the sauce is addicting. There is a reason this joint has a line...it's worth it! But this place had me eating dishes I normally wouldn't eat or try and they were ALL good :). The buffet was clean and managed by two people at the same time to make sure the food was replenished and counters stayed clean at all times. They had soooo much food, all different dishes from Carolina style bbq to chitlins!! I was amazed at how many things I could actually eat because I'm quite picky lol. My plate was full to the brim! I had two plates and three deserts OMG! They also have a wide variety of desserts from homemade cakes & pies to two different cobblers to banana pudding :). I have eaten there many times without incident. On a recent trip we drove 30 miles out of the way to eat there for lunch and were waiting in line for them to open. As we were almost done with our meal, I noticed what appeared to be a small roach on the wall next to our table, I looked away and it was gone. A minute later it was on the table, I asked for a manager, by the time she got there it was gone. I don't believe that restaurants are a sterile environment, but when bugs are crawling on tables in broad day light, there is something wrong. Will not eat there again. read more

This is an oasis in a desert of fast food. It's not actually five star quality food, but it gets high marks for variety and friendliness. Plus it's inexpensive, $10 all you can eat. So here is gripe of mine before I start. If you don't like greasy soul found/country food...why leave a bad review complaining. This isn't a restaurant where things are supposed to be healthy. It's made to remind you of eating Sunday dinners at grandma's where things were wholesomely cooked and made you want a nap afterwards. Obviously this is a buffet bar, so not everything will be made to your liking. But as far as country food goes, unless my grandma comes back from the grave, this place has my heart. If it wasn't deep fried, it was smothered in butter. Even after I bit into it, I still couldn't tell you what I was eating -- not that I'm complaining. They coulda had deep fried shoe and I woulda ate it and I woulda liked it. I didn't even notice the salad bar until my 3rd trip to the buffet. I've seen better salad bars at Food Lion.
