I am a long standing customer of Fred Meyer in Ballard, but yesterday - June 23 - found that there was no more sanitized or sanitizing of carts or baskets. No employee at the entrance taking care of that, nothing, as if the pandemic were over. Is there a reason for that? Trader Joe's, PCC, Town and Country Market, all do. I personally wish Fred Meyer stuck to groceries but that's just cause the store is overwhelming. Fred Meyer has started making these awesome (hello fresh esque) meal prep boxes that are so perfect for a bad day. I've only seen them at the bakerview location not the Lakeway one. Fresh good selection of produce. I would like more signage just because of how huge and popular this store is. The health/natural foods section can get a bit hairy too with a lack of direction and signage. The staff is very nice and they talk to me which I enjoy lol. The specific departments are wonderful Bakery Ben taught me I could get my avenue bread loaves sliced and it's the best thing since sliced bread. Alex in the meat department always tells us what we need (I'm clueless about cuts of meat) and then will clean our fish and such. Cheesus (Marcus, I believe he works in pharmacy now but Cheesus was a real one) was the best!!! He gave us cheese themed buttons and made great recommendations and taught us how to keep parmesean happy! These guys go way above and beyond Overall a great grocery store but definitely a bit of a trip. You have to be in the mood kind of similar to Costco in that way. read more

At least twice tonite, someone offered to help! try getting that at W lol. Located just a few miles from DT Bellingham, in their very own plaza, huge store. Men's stuff on the right side, while carrying UnderArmour and Columbia, it's not the top end stuff and hard to find sizes. Nevertheless, 50% in addition off the lowest sale price is cool. And just when you think that's all there is, and this is where the 4th star comes into play, I was pleasantly surprised to see their home and kitchen section on the far right side! If items are on sale, just give customers the sale price through their loyalty card. Digital coupons are discriminatory for seniors and the visually, math and tech challenged. Digital price signs are huge, leading rushed customers to think they will actually get that price. But no, you need to clip the coupon from the FM app and also make sure you see the small print if you need to buy one or more of the item to get the price advertised. If you don't, the price is often extremely high. Line ups are long, rarely can I find a grocery basket or small cart. Staff are few when you have a question or need to find an item. Even if you want to scan your own grocery items, saving the store labor, you have to line up many customers deep. Although Winco is a longer drive for me, I would rather make the time to wait in their lines and at least know that I am paying what is posted on the sign marking the items I would like to buy. Kroger and Fred Meyer should abolish digital coupons. If they can afford to offer things on sale, make it easy. read more

Love that we see the same employees after all these years. We hate that the carts for shop online customers block aisles and are rude. They make us feel like we're second class because we're shopping on our own. We HATE your "fresher than fresh" advertising .... your produce freshness is average at best .... bugs in half rotten artichokes, worms on celery, rotten romaine.... onions that are so oversized but only useful for half their weight, potatoes with bruising and worms ... Our latest frustration ws paying for filets mignon for 24.99 a pound ( bought for years previously with yummy results) .... these were tough, grizzled .... coupled with the bug infested "fresher than fresh" artichokes ... we're about DONE...... THEN .....after shopping there for over 30 years .... my wife forgot her license .... they wouldn't even call a manager so she wouldn't have to drive home for a bottle of wine! She's 69! So this is my go-to grocery store, gas station and pharmacy in town. There are a lot of pros but I will start with the cons. Cons: The bathrooms are always super gross. They look and feel dirty and there seem to be toilets out of order most of the time. The parking lot can also be a hassle if you go in the afternoons or weekends. There just do not seem to be enough spaces to park given how large and various the store is. Pros: Fuel points! For every $100 spent you get 100 points, or for every prescription filled you get 50 points. 100 points = 10 cents off each gallon of gas. The pharmacy rocks. The staff is fully competent and always polite and kind. Fred Meyer offers a huge selection of everything grocery-wise, including their organic produce which is a plus. They also have other departments- clothing sections for kids, men, women, shoes, and accessories, a sports/camping section, bedding and kitchen essentials, and a tools/fix it section, plus a rotating holiday section. They really have it all, which makes this store a great place to stop for multiple needs! The prices are hard to beat elsewhere unless you go to Winco off the Guide or buy in bulk at Costco. read more

Omg these cashiers at Fred Meyers acted so inappropriately towards a customer yesterday. They, with heavy aggravation in their voices, kept yelling at this elderly woman. All she tried to do is enter a checkout lane that was closed and she couldn't quite hear them. To paint a picture, she was OLD... like bag of bones old, like she met Jesus old. I think she was hard of hearing and they were YELLING, so much so that many customers within several lanes including myself turned our heads. I'm standing there watching, seething, just thinking in my head... could they simply, idk ‍, walk closer to her instead of condescending and disrespecting her in front of a store full of people. Like damn it made me so angry... it's so easy to not be fucking rude. Damn just treat others how you'd want to be treated. People don't even talk to children the way they talked to her... UNHOLY FUCK, they were talking to her like she was an imbecile GODT IM SO HOT. I think someone offered to help her as soon as she started to walk away and once again she couldn't hear them and they were screeching "MAM! MAM MAMMMM MAM!" Those toothless motherfuckers. Fred Meyer is a good grocery store, with decent prices and a huge selection, so I don't fault their business model necessarily. However this particular store gets 2 stars because they hire some of the rudest, most trash employees I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with. The women who regularly work the self-checkout here are particularly awful. The too-tan-to-live-in-Washington blonde lady is rude, and is constantly chatting with customers and coworkers, so if you need a coupon or ID scanned, or anything else, forget it, you'll be standing with your d**k in your hand. read more

I love this store! It's like Walmart...only better. There are many quality items available for reasonable prices. If you sign up for a rewards card, you can earn fuel discounts. Sign up for promotions and receive free items every Friday! I've received free food items, gardening items, reusable shopping bags, kitchen tools...there's really no good reason not to sign up. The parking lot can be ridiculous. Too many people not paying attention to the fact that other cars are moving through the parking lot. I recommend going early or late to avoid the crowds. Stoped at Fred's on Lakeway dr last night at 10:30 to pick up some groceries and was finish up except had got a text from wife to get her a certain candy it just turned to 11:00 and I was in candy aisle heading to check out. I was approach by a lady named Sally supposedly the manager she said either keep going or leave my Kart and leave the store. So I did not get my wife her candy I'm headed to check out where I spent 15 minutes in line being stared down by the Salley so-called manager. A lady behind me in line experienced the same thing in a handicap cart . If I could post the picture of her it would say what time it was and what she said. Ripped-Off for $35...by Fred Myers. Unknowledgeable employees giving misleading advice. The Tale: I bought a tracphone smart phone on the recommendation of the salesman at Fred Meyers, Lakeway, Bellingham. I explained where I lived. He said the phone would work. I got home, phone and "start up" card" not even out of the bag - a friend said "they don't work here". Back to Fred Meyers: They refunded the phone but not the $35 card (never used, never out of the shopping bag). Called the main Customer Service number they "took down the information"...and I never heard from them again. All the first salesman had to say was "I have no idea", and I would not have bought the phone and card. I'll never darken their doors again; if you do make sure you do not believe anything their staff tells you. read more

I just want to give a shout-out to the 8/19/2015 "exploded with poop" review. You'll have to go to the 3rd or 4th page to find it, but it's worth it. I really don't believe this actually happened (or maybe some version of it did but the writer is obviously a major drama queen) but it made me laugh so hard the first time I read it and it's one of the funniest I've seen. There is nothing particularly wrong with this store, but I'm REALLY bothered that the reason it has such high reviews is because of all the Canadians who have left reviews here. Not that there is anything wrong with that, except that they are basing their love for the store and its prices on a comparison to their socialist country where everything costs so much more. This isn't Canada, so Fred Meyer should stand on its own merit and not be touted just for being cheaper than a neighboring country. I like this store very much and I do most of my shopping here. I've always shopped primarily at Walmart because of the prices, but when I moved here a couple years ago, the only decent grocery Walmart is about 30 minutes away, so I shopped locally instead. Initially I went to every store based on the sales and coupons, but ultimately found myself buying almost everything at Fred Meyer, in part because it's the best store nearest my house. They have a great selection and good prices. On two separate occasions recently, I had planned a trip to Walmart to stock up on a few things, and ended up going to Fred Meyer instead. On both occasions, the things I went for actually ended up being cheaper at Freddy's. It's really the sales that make it a good value. If what you want is not on sale, the prices mostly range from just okay to high. The biggest downside of this store is the parking lot. It is tiny and always full. The store itself is also very busy and full. This might be a sign of good business, but it doesn't make for a fun shopping experience. Last night I went in at 10:30 to avoid the crowds, and still every open lane was full. For the record, I have only ever shopped in the grocery department. The ONE time I shopped in another department, it was a bad experience, but I'm not basing my review on it. So all in all, I would say this is a good store. The prices are good, but nothing to write home about (unless you're from Canada). The prices aren't SO good that they are worth venturing into such a busy store. I have no choice because I'm poor, and I can't afford to be driving all around to other stores. From the looks of it the prices are pretty competitive and the selection is quite varied. Nothing wrong with options, eh? In general Fred Meyer is a very good store. The one exception is the liquor dept. The two men that work there are not friendly to customers. They never smile, greet, or seem eager to help you. In fact I feel like I am annoying them if I have a question or want to get liquor from the locked cabinets. I no longer go there to shop for wine or liquor. The new Safeway has tempted me but the customer care at Fred Meyers as well as the lower prices won out. Fred Meyers and Safeway offer the same gas deal basically. Every time I have a problem Fred Meyers has bent over backwards to rectify the situation. The prices are better than Haggens or Safeway but it does not have the boutique look of the other stores. I went to Fred Meyer's on a mission - a mission to buy as much wheat free flour as possible. I headed straight to the baking aisle and was so disappointed to only find corn flour. Determined, I wandered, and then remembered.... health food section just past the bakery!! Then I discovered the gluten-free section. Happy as a pig in mud I picked up about 8 different "alternative" flours, in addition to quinoa pastas, gluten-free vegan cookies, and wheat free cereals (even some which are clearly for children, but I'm very excited about my Leapin' Leemers cereal!!) This place is also great for your other staples... meat, dairy, miscellanous. I'm from Canada so I don't often get to purchase alcohol because I go on day trips (damn the outrageous duty on booze). Aside from groceries I am pretty sure you can find just about anything in this store. I will be a frequent driver for my gluten free needs. read more

This place has it all. I just love shopping here. I feel like I can get just about anything I want or need all under one roof. The furniture/home furnishing section is amazing. They have everything from sofas, coffee tables, lamps, rungs, picture frames, art, to candles and pretty things for your home. And the prices are great too. They have a housewares section with appliances, dishes, and all kinds of gadgets. They have towels and bedding. There are sections for hardware, toys, books, flowers, gardening and automotive. There's a pharmacy here too. They have a great selection of seasonal stuff for whatever the latest holiday is. If you head over to the other end of the store, they have a large clothing section and a jewelry store. And electronics area. Yes Fred Meyer has it all. The grocery selection is second to none. There's fresh produce, deli, bakery, meats, dairy, everything you ever need is here. They have an extensive wine selection and the prices are very competitive. In fact, when Fred Meyer has sales, they have some of the best prices for everything. I buy dairy products and those coffee creamers here all the time. You can check out the current flyer online before you go. Check outs are usually not that busy and they do offer self check out which I like to use if I don't have that many items. But note that Bellingham has outlawed all plastic grocery bags so bring your own. You can get a free paper bag for small items but it will cost you to use a large one. I make a point of going to Fred Meyer whenever I'm in Bellingham and will always leave with a lot of great stuff. I love this store! read more

Freddy's stores in general are pretty great. From soup to (hardware and edible) nuts they got it all. Open pretty early and late (7 to 11 last I checked) Of the two in Bellingham this is the older, and in my opinion somewhat lesser, store. It is fine but I like the layout and selection a bit more at the other one. One point in this ones favor the parking lot: Being closer to Canada and more visible from the freeway, the other location becomes (as another Yelper stated) "a near hostage situation" parking wise. During holidays, U.S. and Canadian, shop at this Lakeway location! One minor complaint: The gas station, the arrangement is very poor when busy. It ain't great at the other location, but this one is painful. read more

We do almost all of our grocery shopping here. Some of the employees even know us by name. It isn't uncommon for us to go several times in one day! I love the way the store is set up. You can do a loop and get everything you need. The produce selection is great, and it is fresh so it keeps a long time. I also really enjoy their take-and-bake pizzas. When you score a coupon for those they are cheaper than frozen options. They also have several infant car seats so it is easy to shop with a baby carrier, many places do not offer this option. We also appreciate their rewards program. Because we do all of our shopping here we typically get $10-$15 on a giftcard every quarter, and the gas savings are excellent. read more

Worse customer service I've experienced in a long time. Went in today and went through the self-check. Proceeded with check out, but got stuck. I asked for help and the woman (bleach blond, curly hair) told me my payment had already been processed - but I told her I was stuck. She said I did it wrong. When I told her I had waited to be told to process my debit card, she said (loud enough for me to hear), "No you didn't. I've only been working on these machines for years." Freddie's is my grocery store or choice near WWU solely because the prices. Beyond that, this location had become steadily more irritating a place to shop. The reorganization of the store works to keep you looking around longer for what you came in for so you'll buy more. Great for them, not great for students and other community members whose time and finances are strictly budgeted. The pharmacy has also become a disappointment; when a tech didn't know how to access Apple Care's database (available to all pharmacies with Internet) dropping off a prescription became a big back-and-forth about DSHS in front of a line of people. They have free wifi. It's slow, but they have it. The store is nice. Not as weird as the other FM stores where they have weirdos popping in near closing. Because this location is heavily saturated with Canadians, stock can be an issue. Staff are generally friendly. Unfortunately, their self service tills need updating. FM has some crazy specials now and then. That is another reason to stop by here before you get some gas. However, their regular prices on food tends to more expensive than Walmart and Winco. As always, check a charter bank's website (not bank of canada - that's the rate the banks pay not you or me) for the latest currency exchange rate. Right now you're paying about 45% upcharge for cash, add an additional 2.5% if paying by credit card when shopping in the USA. Most Xborder shoppers miscalculate currency exchange rates and many merchants confuse matters by using marketing and putting a spin on their exchange rate into confusing the ignorant consumer into thinking they're saving more. Always use the chartered bank's sell rate eg. TD. RBC in determining how much the US dollar costs you in CDN. read more

The cost of food in Bellingham can be high if you're not a frugal shopper. Fred Meyer on the other hand often has some of the best prices in town. I've compared with the cost-cutter across the street and FM had them beat on more then half of the items I looked at. They are also more than a grocery store in that they have everything you need. From Kitchen appliances, kids toys, a garden center, clothing, shoes, and a full grocery store with deli, coffee shop, and butcher, Fred Meyer is often 1-stop shopping for me. They have coupons regularly, and plenty of self-scan registers so waiting in line is never really an issue. My favorite part of Fred Meyer is the natural, organic foods section which has the best deal on Nancy's yogurt. They also have grind-your-own peanut & almond butter machines as well as a large bulk-bin section of dried fruits, different nuts and flours, and beans. Finally, the parking lot is large so parking is never a problem and several bus lines service the area. I wish they were open later, they do close at 11pm, but then again that's certainly a reasonable hour to close up shop for the night. Thanks Fred Meyer! read more

When I drive to the drive through after one an hour of my doctor send an voice message I had to wait more. Be aware of their lack on checking for a presentation from voice message. This is my neighborhood all-in one shopping destination. The building itself hasn't been updated in a while, but it doesn't matter since the inventory, selection, prices and staff are awesome. The guy I am dating and I have been going to this location for years now to get our grocery since it is 35% - 45% cheaper for us to get grocery here vs. at home. Even when the dollar isn't the best it's still cheaper to get groceries from the US vs. Home. I find the inflation here very unnecessary. Ironically they do sell some made in Canada products here, especially in the gluten free and organics section that is cheaper than buying at home. I've been eating a lot of gluten free and vegan off and on for years. The gluten free stuff here is cheaper by at least 20%. They also carry more variety of stuff. My major complaint is that they change the layout of the store far too often that it confuses me. The guy I am dating and I like to be in and out in a timely manner and it messes us up when things are changed around. They do sell some clothes and some non food items. I've been addicted to duct tape sheets for duct tape wallets. The junk food isle will scare you. It baffles me some with the American's obsession with junk food.
