I am a new patient. I was very frustrated with the front desk the trying to book an appointment. The person (lady) on the phone could not really focus on the simple conversation. I want to talk about the worst customer experience in my life. I am writing about the subject in detail below, as I wish that no one else should experience what I have experienced as a consumer. Introduction to the first store and acquaintance: In this store where I went to have prescription glasses made, no one said hello for a long time, don't be surprised when they treat you like a fly, they are not smiling. Order process, indifference, lies, and carelessness: However, after waiting 10-15 minutes, a middle-aged woman on duty tried to understand our needs, and my request was very clear and simple, I wanted my glasses to be extremely light and especially the lenses very thin. (the adventure starts here, are you ready?) The sales representative had the woman choose the most expensive frame out there, and she said it's fine for what you want, so I agreed, because we, as customers, can't know, right? Also, an extra $52 was charged for the extra thin glass. By the way, the lady must have started a new job, as the process, which should not have exceeded 15 minutes at the optician, took more than 1 hour, and she could not start the process. Another important issue I mentioned was that my driver's license is suitable for use with glasses, otherwise, I can't take the exam, please try to do it as soon as possible and I said make sure to call me when you're ready. But there was no news from them for 15 days and when I had to go to the store again and ask, I saw that my glasses were ready but they did not call. Why didn't you call, when I said I can't drive because I didn't get any information from you, they said they don't have a phone number, but my phone information was taken and my wife I went with witnessed this. Here was the lie of the business. Think about it, which store does not receive the contact information of its first-time customer? Continuation of the unresolved issue: Do not think that the issue is over here, my glasses were placed in an extremely crooked frame and the left glass was prepared largely, as thick as the bottom glass of the right glass. As I mentioned above, when I asked why they were prepared this way even though extra money was taken, we were told we did not check it, give us time to fix it. I said okay to that, and to RYAN, the male officer who took care of me, I go here by uber and I have serious travel expenses. Could you please have me talk to your manager or the female officer who took care of us when we first arrived? When I said, both of them are off today said I can't help you, so I asked your manager to please call me and I left the store. On the same day I was called for the first time by the manager: The manager talked to me and my husband in a very sincere, sincere, and helpful manner to get the problem solved, and as a customer for the first time, we were glad that someone understood us. Our representative woman was also there. So, as Rayn said, neither the manager nor the other woman on duty was on leave! Fortunately, the manager handled the process himself, saying that he would take care of the problem himself and that we wouldn't have any more problems, and said that the chosen framework was wrong in the first place, Rayn also said the same thing (you can tell that the business is for profit, not customer needs) but then both glasses are the same. Since he said that it would look equal if it was in thickness, I was now out of power and I said ok. This time, we agreed to receive the glasses after about 10 days. The glasses went back to the lab: Days later, I received an SMS from the store that I could receive my glasses, and on the same day, I went to the store with my husband. Again, there was the same indifference, and without anyone even saying hello to us, we went to a suitable place by ourselves. After a while, the manager came and said to make an appointment when he was coming again, but you sent a message, so when I said we came, he couldn't find any answer and had to apologize. The problem persists: The glasses were indeed ready, but I was not happy because unfortunately they were not made according to the notes taken by the manager in the previous meeting and were not checked again, this time the manager admitted that it was his fault and apologized again and again. My husband and I said that we did not want the glasses anymore, despite this situation that we approached with great maturity/patience, and we left saying that we wanted to get our money. As a result; I had a customer experience where I lost time, health, and money and damaged endless trust. Please do not stop here, do not trust the staff! read more

I couldn't find frames I liked at my optometrist and decided to visit Dr. Slater's office because it had the brand I like (Klik). Even though I wasn't a patient everyone was super accommodating and helped me find great frames (shoutout to Jessica). I ordered the frames on Monday and it came in on a Friday. They are conveniently open on Saturday so it's Saturday afternoon and I can see so much better now. I am really happy with my new frames. For people curious about the selection, I was very impressed by the fact the office has a unisex side and a women's side that are both equal in variety as opposed to having less options for men. Additionally, there are plastic and metal frames which is nice because now that the plastic frames are in fashion the metal frames have been harder to find. read more

He has an efficient staff that too is personable and knowledgeable.His assistant Mark as well as April are very efficient,knowledgeable and has always helped me for adjustments,information and education on why I should or should not purchase various types of glasses for both myself and my children and wife.We buy most all our eye-wear needs here and have gotten our prescriptions from doctor Slater for years. My experience here at this business has been the worst. When I was first looking for a new eye doctor on yelp because I canceled my previous one with Kaiser, I stumbled upon multiple different eye doctors. I called other places to see their prices, and some of them told me I would have to get charged for a new glasses prescription fitting first and then another charge for contacts. Finally, I called this place, and I told them specifically that I already had a prior eye exam done in January and would only need a contact fitting. I also clearly stated that I had never had contact lenses before, and I would only need a new patient contact fitting. This girl on the phone told me that it would be ok for me and that the price would be $169 for just the contact lens fitting. I also asked again to make sure that I wouldn't need a new glasses prescription and that this price is for the contact lens fitting, and she said yes. Finally, on the day of my appointment, things started to dive. When I came in, Dr. Fred Slater was fitting me for contacts, but the problem was he only put one contact brand in me and tried to sell it to me as if it was the best. Even though I expressed some discomfort, he told me that my eyes were uncomfortable because I wasn't used to the contacts. I was not too fond of the contacts he fit on me because they weren't clear. He then tried to push me to buy daily contact lenses from them even though I told him I would need to go home and try them for a little first and see if Costco would have a better price since I didn't have insurance. Towards the end of our fitting, which only took 10 mins, he told me that the total cost was $279. I stood back shocked and said to him that the girl at the front desk told me it was $169 just for this fitting. He became annoyed and told me they never even offered that price and tried to show me a paper that stated all the costs. I said again that the only reason I chose this place was because of the price for contact lens fitting. He took me outside and asked another girl at the front desk, saying, "why is she saying that we offered her that price" the girl responded, saying, "yes, we did offer her that price because that is what it said on her chart." After hearing this, he looked further annoyed and proceeded to say, "well, what are we going to do" to the girl right in front of me. He tried to argue with me, saying that it was probably my fault for this miscommunication, but I told him clearly that "No, I called multiple places asking very specifically that I already had my new prescription for glasses and that I wanted JUST a contact lens fitting and I had NEVER had one before, what is your price for that?" Your business told me it was $169. He then looked angrier and said, "Ok, we would go with that price, and then he left somewhere. After I had paid, he came back out and proceeded to tell me in front of the front desk, "This is not ok of you. I have to pay my workers on how to train you" and was shaming me and making me feel guilty because of the price THEY gave me. I was, at this point, suffering a panic attack and was crying in the back room while trying to fit on my new blurry contacts. He later tried to come back in, saying how sorry he was and that he would offer me an even better deal on the contacts. First of all, no amount of discount can even repair what a horrible customer service you gave me. You treated me as if I was a lesser person than you and yelled at me in front of everyone as if I'm not even a human being. Following that experience, I thought everything would be ok since Andy, their general manager, reached out to me to offer me to see a new doctor with a 30-day prescription. Towards the end, I started working with Mark, their optician, and while he was nice to me initially, he was rude to me towards our last phone call. When the new doctor gave me two new brands to try, I didn't adore either one; I just liked a certain one more than the other. I told Mark my decision, and he said ok, we're going to go with this one. I told him that I didn't love either of the brands they gave me and asked him if I could try out another brand with my own money out of Costco, and he rudely told me that "we already circled this brand that you just told to me to, so this is what we're going with. If you wanted a new brand, we would have to fit you in for another prescription, and that would cost more work for us, which means more money for you. He later told me that they were doing me a favor because of how little I was paying for the entire service and that I shouldn't expect any other places to do this for me. Excuse me? You guys were the ones who told me it was $169; how will you continue trying to make me feel guilty when even my chart on the computer says that is what you told me. While I'm pretty sure there are good doctors here, the problem is their customer service is horrendous. Please save your money and look elsewhere. read more

My regular eye doctor was closed, and my ongoing eye problem was acting up so I took a friends advice to visit Dr. Slater. His staff understood my pain and found a appointment for me that very afternoon. When I arrived, I was greeted by his helpful friendly staff that helped me register, do some paperwork and some eye tests. My regular doctor provided me eye drops and sends me on my way. I am in and out in of his office in 15 minutes only to return in 90 days with the same problem. This has been going on for years. Dr. Slater and his team explained my medical condition in plain language that I can understand and how I can care for myself limiting my need for steroid eye drops. No doctor has ever explained my condition before, let alone how I should be taking care of myself. We also discussed long term ideas should my problem get worse. Dr. Slater took his time explaining things to me and answering my questions which I appreciated so very much, and I didn't feel rushed either. I was so impressed with Dr. Slater and his team that I ordered new glasses too! Six months later, I am still seeing and feeling fine. I have a new doctor! read more

I don't live close, but I've been coming to this office for years, particularly to see Dr. Amy Chi. From the very first time I saw her as a patient, I felt an ease and warmth that most doctors usually reserve for long-term patients. She made me feel totally at ease and comfortable. That ease translated into one of the most thorough and caring assessments of my eyes I'd had in memory. Never once did I feel there was some motive of upsell for any of my vision needs. Glasses are very expensive and very poor quality. I have been wearing progressive glasses for 15 years. When my previous optometrist had retired I decided to try Dr Slater office.The glasses this office made, got scratched within 10 months; although I paid for anti scratches coating. Due to the pandemic, I could not go to Dr Slater office immediately , and now the office is not willing to repair them and asked me to do a new pair. I initially spoke with Jessica over the phone, she booked me for my initial appointment. She was able to get me in within the same week which was really nice and she was super friendly. The day before my appointment I received a text with the new patient paperwork. So far so good, when I arrived at my appointment Jessica greater me at the door and April started me off with my contact lense examination she was also super sweet. I then met with Dr. Slater to finish the rest of the exam. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and I felt comfortable under his care. I have gone to various optometrists in the past where I felt rushed and felt like they were in it for the money and they were pushing me to buy the most expensive frames with upgrades and to opt for the most expensive type contact lenses but here I did not get that vibe at all. I am sorry as my experience with them is not good and I am changing optometrist for next year. It took them three weeks to get glasses and when I expressed my disappointment, they blamed it on COVID. I brought up that Costco still does it, under a week, they mentioned that their quality is good. I was in a rush as my reading glasses changed and it was impacting my work. Glasses came back and I was informed that they were not right. I had to wait for another couple of weeks. Since I had used insurance with Slater, I went to Costco and paid out of pocket to get glasses as I could not wait. The office manager promised that he will compensate me and I never heard back from him. I find it very unprofessional. Anyways, they lost 4 of their customers. read more

This has been a long over due review for this office! I first found this optometrist about two years ago because it was the closest to where I worked , I'm so glad I gave them a try & I cant imagine going anywhere else for my eye care. My first ever visit (two years ago) was a glasses and contact consultation. The staff is very knowledgeable & friendly! I had forgotten who I had spoken with in the office in that time but as I was picking out glasses the guy even advised me on which glasses would look better for my face shape. I did choose to get the suggested. I was then well informed about how glasses should sit on a face so that you get the optimum usage for them and how certain frames are good / bad. (In all my years of going to the optometrist - no one has ever taken the time to explain anything like that) my glasses were adjusted with care and they took time to make sure they fit correctly. Fast forward to two years later - Scheduling for the office is made easy. I do feel like they cater to a person's schedule to try and fit an appointment in where they can. I met Dr. Betty Chun for this contact consultation and saying she's amazing I feel like would be understated. She has a very warm and energetic aura about her. Easily likable and she's all about teaching how to properly care for your eyes. My right eye see's about 20/20 and I have astigmatism in my left. The contacts being ordered for me I understood would take a while due to my problematic left eye. I admit, I may have called about three different times to check on the status of my contacts. I appreciate the staff for all of their help and patience. Mark had spoken to me and I apologized for being so antsy in getting my contacts. He assured me it was okay and that he would actually call the company to see what the status of my contacts were. A little bit later on in the same day (while I was at work) I get a text message from their office notifying me that I would get the shipment next week. A couple of minutes after receiving the text message, I get a phone from their office... Mark had informed me that they did some digging into my file and actually have found one left eye contact that were my old prescription pretty close Rx to my new one's i'll be getting soon. I couldn't leave work early when he offered me a time for an appointment to come in for them but was informed that if I came in after I had gotten off work that they can fit me in between Dr. Chun's appointments. Dr. Chun had me put my contacts in and I sat in the waiting room for only about 15 minutes until she was able to examine my eyes and send me off. I know this review is a little lengthy but I wanted to take the time to say thank you to the wonderful staff in this office. You all are doing a great job! Very much over priced! I needed a pair of simple progressive glasses for reading and distance. I picked out a frame that cost $250 (not a designer frame) and they told me that the glasses with UV protection will cost over $1200!!! I could not believe what I heard! So I only paid for the cost of the prescription which is $229 and did not get the glasses. I went to Costco today and I was pleasantly surprised to found out that it only cost me $220 to get the same type of glasses I want ($59 for a nice titanium frame ) and the cost of getting the prescription (both glasses and contact lens) will only cost $115! On top of that, the staff at the Costco was very nice and helpful. So, there is no reason for me to go back to Fred Slater store. read more

Me and my husband had the best experience visiting Dr. Slater's office. Angelo assisted us with the check in, initial exam, and ordering process. He was very thorough explaining every part of the process and kind. Definitely a breath of fresh air compared to our experiences with previous optometrist offices. I told him about my current prescription "transition" glasses I got from a different optometrist not getting as dark as I expected and he used their machine to "activate" my glasses and fixed the problem! He's not only kept me up to date with my order but went above and beyond to ensure I received my glasses as soon as possible. I also loved that they had a machine to scan my current glasses to pull my prescription. I've been to multiple optometrist offices before and they've never had that capability. This definitely helped expedite my exam with Dr. Amy Chi. Dr. Chi was great and asked questions to really understand my needs. I liked how she showed me the difference between my current prescription and new prescription. My previous optometrist never took the time to do this and I really appreciate that Dr. Chi did. I've been using Fred Slater & Associates for about 5 years now, and I am consistently floored by the quality of customer service, friendliness of the staff, and willingness to "go the extra mile" to ensure satisfaction. Though I'm only writing this 5-star review now, please consider it retroactive for the duration of my patronage. I'm not going to waste any talking about eye health other than to say Dr. Chi is top-notch, as are all staff members. What I will talk about instead is eyeglass selection, which is always difficult for me. I consider myself to be a stylish but not fashionable person. I like items of clothing and accessories that are a little over-the-top without being totally crazy, and my freakishly long eyelashes and unusually large head are additional complicating factors. Every two years when my VSP frame benefit resets, I embark on a day-/week-/month-long search for something that fits where I am with my personal style. This year I took weeks to select a gorgeous Cole Haan frame (from among multiple frames I had them special order for me), but when they applied my prescription to the glasses, my eyelashes continually wiped and soiled my lenses. I was exceptionally grateful when they offered to eat the cost of the lenses and let me choose another frame that worked better! My favorite specialist in the joint -- April -- helped me pick out my new pair. Universal fit (for my eyelashes), guitar frets on the side, bullets on the front. Black arms that give way to tortoise, and tortoise on the interior. These glasses are so ME, and I'm glad that the staff gets me well enough to put the right frames in my hands. Since I've been using Fred Slater & Associates, my workplace opened up an optometry center with a great selection of frames a short walk away from my office. I'm sure they are great, but I value convenience much less than being known when it comes to my health & style. read more

I started going to this optometrist office in Nov 2021 after seeing the rave reviews on Yelp. I was not disappointed. I am used to optometrist offices where the staff will push high end glasses on me such that my bill was $700+ just for new frames and lens. Dr Burns was patient with me and I feel satisfied that my vision health is in good hands. I also had a retina picture taken because I am borderline diabetic type 2 and have to monitor my eye health carefully. Dr Burns sent me images to my email for my records without me needing to ask. I was able to share the images with my primary care physician. Their frames are stylish and affordable. I got 2 frames for far less than my last optometrist. I was so happy with my experience that I got my daughter new frames also. My parents don't speak much English (Cantonese speaking). Dr Chun was the perfect optometrist for them as she was patient and made sure they understood every part of the exam. Usually my mother has a hard time during the exam because her last optometrist went too fast showing her the lens choices (i.e. 1 or 2, 2 or 3) so the glasses she usually gets don't help her vision at all. She is happy with her new glasses and her experience. She is actually going back for spares now since they are so affordable. The office staff (i.e. Angelo) is great in helping to select the right frames and showing the options (like transition lens). Definitely will be going back and bringing more referrals. read more

After having my eyes examed at my optometrist, I decided to give this place a shot to find stylish frames to better fit my personality. The staff was very polite when greeting me upon my arrival. Angelo was the associate that helped me pick out some frames that accented my face perfectly. He wasn't afraid to tell me that some frames didn't fit my face right and I appreciated the honestly. Out of the many options available I found the frames I liked fairly quickly but we still looked at other frames just for comparison. Found Dr. Slater on yelp, then when i went in i realized i knew him from a previous employer. Dr. Slater did my exam and he was very informative and guided me through what I needed to know. I asked about getting Lasik, he advised me i shouldn't which was great, because most doctors just tell you to get it to make a quick buck. I appreciated all the knowledge he passed on to me. The front receptionist was great, as scheduling was easy. Getting frames and lenses was easy and I was in for probably an hour or less. I'm not a fan. The doctors might be great, but I wouldn't know because their service staff is SO TERRIBLE! I called last week to make appointments for my husband and me. First they couldn't wrap their brain around the fact that we had separate insurance plans, then they called *again* because it was still too difficult for them to understand. Worst experience I have ever had at an eye doctor. I went to my first appointment, I told the doctor that previously I hadn't changed my contacts that frequently because I was in between jobs and hadn't had insurance. Her reaction was essentially to tell me that I wasn't smart enough to know how to change my contacts when I should. I almost started crying in the doctor's chair during my appointment she was so mean to me. She ended up telling me that I needed to use this certain type of contact that was made for people who couldn't remember to change their contacts. She then went to get the contacts, which were a brand I had never heard of. She proceeded to tell me that these were my trial contacts, and that the prescription wasn't really what I needed for my right eye. I felt super uncomfortable with using an incorrect prescription, and told her this, and she responded that it was "no big deal". I think it is a pretty big deal that a doctor gives you something that isn't your correct prescription, and I'm pretty sure I can sue you for doing something like that. I could tell that the only reason she was giving me these contacts was because she was being given an incentive by the contact company to hand them out. I've worked in retail for long enough to know when I am being sold a product, especially when it is done so poorly. If you are giving me a brand I have never heard of, in my wrong prescription, and trying to push it on me that hard, yes, you are pushing product on me. I kept pushing that I wanted my actual prescription for my contacts, so she finally gave me a different brand, the brand I usually use, Acuvue, and she said she was going to order that other brand in my prescription for me to try out. I left that appointment completely upset. I really wanted nothing to with that office ever again. However, a week later I got a phone call that the trial contacts had come in and I had to pick them up, so I did. I walked in, they handed me my contacts, and then I left. Nothing about a follow up appointment, nothing about how my current contacts were doing, nothing. So, I assumed I was done with them and I never had to return there again. Throughout all of this, I still needed new contacts as the trials were the only ones I had. So, I placed an order with 1800Contacts, and they called Dr. Slater's office only to be told that my prescription was never confirmed. They called me to tell me this, and I had no idea what was going on. No one at the doctors office had ever told me that my prescription wasn't confirmed. So, I called them and also started telling them about the horrible experience I had the first time and that I did not want to go back to their office. The guy I spoke with made me out to be in the wrong because apparently it was MY responsibility to schedule a follow up, but I had no idea I had to do this. No one ever told me when I went to pick up those new trials, no one ever called me about it to follow up, only when 1800 called them did they decide to call me about it. I also told the guy about the doctor giving me the wrong prescription, and that I felt like product was being pushed on me, and he said that was the doctor's business and I shouldn't be making such a big deal about it. Not once during the phone call was there ever an apology, a request to try and make things right, nothing. All he did was blame me for their poor customer and doctor service. In the end I still have to go to their office to get my prescription finalized for 1800 contacts, and I am dreading it. I have been brought to tears by their office twice now, and I have never been treated so poorly by a medical professional. Don't go here. The doctors prescribe you contacts that they are paid by the contact companies to hand out and have no sense of customer service or care. read more

Dr. Mac is great and I really like going back to this office because he's a great optometrist. However, I do have to agree that the staff isn't too bright. I was fitted for two different types of contacts - clear and colored. My prescription hasn't changed for the last two years, so I go back to order refills for both types... However, because I ordered a HUGE batch of clear contacts the first year, I didn't need refills yet for those. One of the ladies on staff gave me hard time about ordering the clear contacts - demanding to know where I've been ordering my contacts. I told her I just haven't run out yet ... and it took her a while to figure out that I am able to use the contacts from last year because my prescription hasn't changed. The next time I came in for refills for the clear ones, I was questioned AGAIN because the lady thought my prescription for the clear contacts were outdated.. and she kept insisting I had to get fitted for them again... then i had to explain to her that my prescription hasn't changed. bla bla bla. All in all, it's a little annoying that every time I go in, I have to explain myself.. and they can't just make a simple note that i use both types of contacts, and that my prescription hasn't changed! If it weren't for the awesome Dr. Mac, I'd probably switch offices. read more

I am no longer a fan. I'm very disappointed in the service of the office. They are ok, but I will avoid them in the future. Dr. Dally seems to be astigmatism correction happy, even if you don't really need the correction (I have a very slight astigmatism on one eye). I can't drive at night with my new prescription. I'll need to get refracted and get new lenses by my new ophthalmologist, which is just a big pain in the ass. read more
