This place is amazing. We were exploring civil war cemetery nearby and happened upon this gem. The treats here are sheer artistry. The young lady behind the counter was so friendly and helpful. I picked the toasted coconut and the wedding cake. Baby went with the vanilla Oreo cookie and the chocolate coconut. They were plump soft doughy pillows of heaven. Yum. The coffee was good too. Visiting Fredericksburg looking for possible relocation, met a friend at this Donut Shop. Due to Covid we utilized outside seating that was available. Weather was rainy so nice it was under an awning. Staff was friendly, and inside welcoming with fresh coffee & smells of Donuts. We ordered individual donuts, would post a pic but they disappeared too fast. They were definitely delicious and it was a positive mark in the Pro Column for reason to relocate. It was just ok. Underwhelming to say the least. I know it's just a donut, but man. Had the powdered strawberry jam donut ($3) and the sugar went all over the place and barely stayed on the flour. GLUTEN FREE DONUTS! They have a gf base (just a basic cinnamony cake donut) and you can get pretty much any flavor they have available that day (chocolate frosting, oreo frosting, maple, etc) you just can't get them filled with something like jelly or Boston cream. I saw a post about a strawberries and cream donut for Valentine's day and asked for that OMG YUM! The only issue I have is they don't have a set list of flavors/toppings so you have to ask every time and they have so many options it would be nice to see them written. My non gf boyfriend thought the gf donuts were amazing but wasn't as impressed by the regular donuts. Overall a big thumbs up! read more

I used to come here back when it was a Sugar Shack. At first I was a little sad to see that it had changed however after walking in I was pleasantly surprised that everything looked exactly the same. From the menu to the donut display, nothing really looked different. The first thing I did was look over to the display to see if they still sold my favorite chocolate M&M donut and they did! I was so happy to see the same donuts I loved so much. I'm not sure what really happened with this place and it becoming Freddy's Donuts now but I will say the donuts are STILL delicious. In fact I think the donuts taste a little better. Not sure if the recipe for the dough was tweaked a bit but I sure did enjoy my donut today! I also wanted to shout out the ladies working there. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and made me feel welcomed. They provided a great customer experience. I will definitely be back! read more

We have been coming here frequently since this was Sugar Shack. Always loved the big donuts, obviously baked fresh and with care. Since they changed over to Freddy donuts, things had remained constant, for awhile. They updated the decor to match their personality, which was cute. However, recently we went in late on a Saturday morning to get donuts and there just wasn't much of a selection. I was happy to hear they had gluten free donuts since I'm sensitive to gluten. They had them in the back, they said; said they could dip them in any flavor I wanted. So I selected two of those and got regular for the rest of our dozen. My daughter wanted bubble tea, to which we were told they were out of boba. It was like they hadn't really bothered to replenish the supply after a rush. Anyway, we got home to notice that several of the donuts were much smaller than usual, and they definitely weren't uniform in size. I opened the box to find my two tiny little gluten free donuts. Honestly, to me these don't even look worth selling. They don't compare to the regular donuts in any way and quite frankly are a disappointment for those of us who don't eat gluten and got excited at the possibility of a light fluffy donut. This was not that. Dense, flat and tiny. I appreciate what a fredericksburg staple this place has become, and the way they support the community. However, I feel a little more work needs to be done to ensure a consistent quality experience for each customer. We probably won't be back and we feel sad about that! read more

I recently moved to the area, and I'm already a regular of this shop. Freddy Donut is a gem among the chain store dirt. I'm a huge fan of all of their donuts, and I've tried a wide selection. My favorite is the classic chocolate covered donut. The chocolate is not the thin, fake, shiny chocolate found at other places; it is thick and rich and generously covered. The apple fritters have real cubed apple pieces scattered throughout, so you can tell they aren't made with anything canned or mushy. Their cake donuts are all delightful, and the maple bacon is one of the best I've had. My partner gravitates towards the fun toppings, and has loved everything he's tried. We've only tried the coffee once, and we weren't huge fans. I'm not a coffee fan anyway, so it really doesn't bother me. We haven't tried enough of it to really comment because our experience could have been a one-off. read more

I've tried Freddy donuts for the first time the other day and as soon as I walked in I was greeted with such a friendly genuine smile I told the young lady it was my first time she told me her name was Isabella I remember because that's also my daughters name she helped me out so much she told me the names of each donut which ones were popular shared her favorites and that obviously convinced me to get a dozen because all the ones she was naming sounded so good and may I say they were absolutely delicious my favorite would have to be the Samoa I also went ahead and got a delicious latte and had a nice chat with Isabella she was so kind and such a sweet gorgeous girl definitely coming back not only for the donuts but the outstanding customer service!!! Most gourmet donut shops try to wow you with unique and over the top toppings. What they usually forget is that I'm buying a donut--not the icing. Freddy's kills it with the donut itself. Walked in this morning at 7:25 AM to get a half dozen coffees and some donuts for men we have a construction site on this snowy morning. The front door was unlocked so I walked in and stood there for five minutes shouting "hello" as loud as I could with no response. I poke my head around every corner and open every door and shouted hello and no answer. No clue why nobody was there, I will never waste my time going back. I asked about vegan donuts and she start to rattle off a bunch of stuff of which ones were vegan. I asked about about another donut and she was like NO that isn't vegan ( very short and snotty) then she proceed to rattle what was vegan in a crappy tone. Customer service wasn't her strong side. Why not label your donuts on what they are and put a v on the name plate and then I wouldn't have to deal with poor customer service. I won't be back. I don't need to deal with poor customer service during these times. read more

The donuts are just as tasty as when it was Sugar Shack but I don't know what happened to the coffee! I've ordered an iced latte twice at Freddy and both times it was totally inedible- so strong and burnt tasting. It tasting like pure burnt espresso. I really loved the coffee when it was Sugar Shack. I won't be stopping here for coffee anymore but will continue to grab a donut when the craving strikes! read more
