This vet is the best in the area in my opinion! All of the staff have been lovely and attentive. My dog had been seeing Dr. Beyer for some years now and she has always been outstanding. I unfortunately had to lay my dog to rest recently, and they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable (and even sent us flowers!!). I cannot thank them enough for how well they've taken care of her. Yes they are on the pricey side, but you get what you're paying for 100%. read more

I like one of the vets very much. I do think that they push some things that are not necessary but they treat animals well and do good work. They are pricey and they say they are an emergency clinic- which really means they will take new patients on in emergency but they don't have all of the equipment or a 24 hour care staff- so it worked in my situation and I have stayed with them. However they now have a pharmacy so even if you can order the identical medication or flea and tick treatment online they won't give you an Rx you need to use them. They also don't let you hold pets when you know that they will be calmer with you and exams and vaccines will go more smoothly. They are very nice. Make sure if your pet needs a procedure or operation that the vet sends an estimate because I was given a price and walked in the morning of the procedure to learn it was going to be close to $500 more. So if they are convenient they are competent and pleasant but pricey and I don't think that they should insist on using their pharmacy especially for flea and tick medicine that can be found cheaper at multiple online sites and is prepackaged by the company and other very common pet meds. And some pets are calmer and behaved when the owner helps. So if you're looking at quality of care it's good and they are nice. read more

We went here twice, the first time was ok- Dr. Flynn wasn't very nice. And it was $$$. The second time with our other dog we saw Dr. Cannon & she was really nice! Still pricey, but not as bad. Although we needed De wormer medication that would've cost about $500 for the three dogs in our house, we called a local vet from our original area and they said the medication they give for Gardia you can get over the counter at most stores, we spent $50 and it'll heal them all. I do think the place is a bit of a money grab, as they could've easily told us that, and when looked up the medication they were prescribing has the same name as the stuff we bought (safe-guard). They were okay, but I've heard good things about the Pikesville Animal Hospital. read more

We transferred from another local vet with whom we didn't feel comfortable. Dr. Cannon was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and very supportive. We ended up deciding to put our kitty out of her misery 2 weeks after the initial visit. Dr. Cannon displayed the same understanding of what we were going through, and let us be there during the procedure. We will be returning when we need veterinary care in the future. read more

Expensive, poor customer service, constantly pushes vaccines and services on you no matter how many times you say no. They are in it for the money, not for the animal. We switched to this vet when my former vet retired and I'm so glad we did. Dr. Beyer is the most attentive vet I've ever met; my dogs now get better medical care than I do! When my 9 year old Schnauzer got very ill, Dr. Beyers gave us her cell phone number and texted us advice throughout the night, when we thought things were touch and go. When we needed medical records transferred from the emergency clinic and they were not faxing them as promised, Ruth, one of the wonderful front desk workers, actually went to the emergency clinic and picked up the records herself. My old girl fully recovered and I believe its in part due to Dr. Beyers care. My dogs used to be terrified as soon as I stepped in the vets office with them and now they're excited to go because they know they always get attention, love and treats! I visited multiple offices in the area, and received the best impression from this one. I adopted an older cat, and needed a good veterinarian. My cat saw Dr. Beyer for ~1.5 years, and she is a wonderful vet. Sometimes you're sitting in the waiting room for a while, which can be inconvenient. However, this is because they take their time with patients. Every vet visit (my cat was a frequent visitor), Dr. Beyer made sure I understood what was going on, my options, and their implications. Because my cat had her share of health issues, Dr. Beyer gave me a cellphone number to text when I had questions, and checked in on my cat every now and then. She genuinely cares, and helped me as much as she could. She never tried to sell services, and instead was up front with the cost of various options, and to what extent they may be worthwhile. All the vet techs and desk staff are kind, gentle, and contribute to what makes this a place I recommend. Unfortunately my girl has passed. But I only have as many good memories with her as I do because of this place. read more

This was the longest doctor visit I've ever been to, including human doctors. Now, I say this as a GOOD thing... Normally doctors are in and out before you even get a chance to talk to them. The average doctor visit is something like 6 minutes long. This vet appointment was about 30-40 minutes, almost all that time spent talking to the doctor. This was incredible! We went over everything from our cat's ideal calorie intake to lose weight, to vaccinations, and the medical problem we came in for originally. There was zero waiting room time. We came in and were immediately shown into an exam room. Then the vet and techs came in almost immediately. They were all very sweet, knowledgeable, and super patient. We had another vet that hadn't faxed over records yet. One word to the front office and they somehow got those records in 30 seconds, something I couldn't do in 3 separate phone calls (what wizardry they used to accomplish this I have no idea). Their pricing is middle of the road here. They should be a lot more expensive given the white glove level of service and face time you get with the actual Doctor. Don't expect bargain bin prices, but don't expect to be ripped off either. We will be using this place as our primary vet from now on. We got recommended this clinic from a friend who runs a pet care business. I have to say she was right on the money - this place is great! read more

I've been going to this vet for years. It used to be good I know things are hard now but lately it's been ridiculous. The owner seems more interested in his side hustle the "market" next door. He need to spend more time being a vet and making sure his vet practice has enough staff and is running smoothly. You will wait in line forever. You will wait to get an appointment and you will never get to see an actual vet. Given the pandemic that's fine but trying to talk to a vet over the phone while your pet is inside is so hard. I think social distancing could be achieved inside as the vet is usually on the other side of the table anyway. And then trying to follow up with emails or calls becomes so problematic. It takes days to get responses. By then your pet is sicker than before and you can't get an answer. The new phone system is not quite helping either. The same three ladies work the phones. Pushing two for a general inquiry or leaving a message for a food refill is such a hassle. I wonder how much time it's saving them. It's not saving me any time. They have also raised the prices. Slyly too. Guess the market isn't going to pay for itself. Also of note. Check your car tires. All the construction has lead to nails I'm tires. And good luck finding a parking space. Construction vehicle take up a lot of the spaces now. It's like an obstacle course to park now. read more

We've been using FRVH for 10 years now. Dr. Dan and Dr. Lisa are so friendly and loving towards my cats. They helped us navigate major cat anxiety behaviors, two rare ear hematomas, removing all my elderly cats teeth to improve his quality of life, and regular checkups. Several years ago when our Begal was dying of kidney failure Dr. Lisa performed his euthanasia. She stayed with me and talked to me about my sweet boy and the next day I found a beautiful flower on my porch delivered by the office. My in laws take their elderly dog to Dr. Dan and fell in love. This office seems to understand that as our pets age comfort is equally as important as medicine, and they have supported us through many difficult decisions. My mom also takes her two elderly cats to FRVH now. They aren't the cheapest vet around, but i love supporting a local business and getting high quality care for my kitties. read more

I can't rate.Everyone I talked too we're beautiful people.my problem is my chihuahua had heart failure.When I talked to the vet she said they could stabilize and treat with meds .She said he may only last a few months ,maybe a year.So to give family a little time to say goodbye was awsome.Next morning I was contacted by another vet saying no improvement.I was under impression fluid was going to be removed from lungs.So now I put down 1150.00.Deposit.Now My family suffers again thing he's coming home and out of the money..And my dog suffered longer then needed.She did say putting him down was a option.But I really believe he would be here now.Hoping this is a rare thing.Raising granson9 and my mom 90 both miss him as well as my wife.If I am wrong in anyway I will change this.Many doing this not to attack the vet but for other people that might face economic and mostly heart break. Frederick Road Veterinary Hospital has the local friendly neighborhood vibe, yet shows professionalism and care to pet owners and their dogs/cats. My experience with Dr. Lisa has been outstanding and she will always go out of her way to follow up and call to check up after my cats' appointments. She clearly explains my cat's illness and recommended course of treatment. Dr. Lisa has even supported me when I decided not to induce more medicine to my terminally ill cat, as we both knew that palliative care was the best course for my cat with cancer. I have since moved out of the area and really do miss this vet. The office is always clean and the front desk is very polite and attentive. The entire staff is friendly and you can certainly tell they love their job. read more

I scheduled an appointment for both of my dogs after someone recommended Dr. Beyer to me. I have a pretty busy schedule and when I called, with a month in advance, I asked for an appointment for the week of 21-25 of January. The person on the phone told me she was scheduling me for the 21st. However, when I got there on the day and time scheduled, I was told that the appointment was actually scheduled for the 31st. They not only didn't even apologized for the situation, but they were extremely condescending, suggesting that I was the one who got it wrong since Dr. Beyer doesn't work that day of the week. I'm pretty sure I wasn't wrong, but even if I was, the way I was treated wasn't right. I think it is essential for someone who works with people, specially in a doctor or vet's office, to have empathy and sensitivity to care for patients and their family! The treatment should start when the patient enters through the door, by making pets and owners feeling welcome! I'm definitely not coming back!!! read more

I have had pets my entire life and have always been vigilant about taking them to the vet. As a result, I have been to many veterinary offices and have interacted with many veterinarians, and NEVER have I met such a horrible vet as Dr. Dan. He is arrogant, slimy, and his prices are outrageous. I took my cat there because he started urinating outside of his box. Having had many cats, I know this can be either behavioral or a symptom of urinary issues such as a UTI. Dr. Dan did not even bother to explain anything to me. He just kept trying to get me to run expensive tests (even though his initial urinalysis was neg.). When I told him I could not pay for all of these tests, he tried to make me feel like I was an irresponsible pet owner and he just kept telling me that I had to spend $300+. He has no sense of care or interest in pets, he only wants $$$. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I took my cat to Academy AH and after taking the vet's advice to get a new litter box and diff. litter, my cat is no longer urinating in the house. read more

Dr. Dan Zakai is caring and compassionate. You can tell he loves animals. He responded quickly to an emergency with my cat, but took the time to explain every option and procedure every step of the way. He even called me after COB to give me an update. The office is clean and inviting, and every staff member I spoke with was friendly and professional to both animals and humans. Although 'hospital' is part of the name, this vet isn't for emergencies only. I'll definitely be back for routine check-ups. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that my chihuahua Lucy is my family and my life. I have been horrified at previous vet offices. Lucy actually licked the vet assistant and was so well behaved during her exam. Dr. Dan is not only thorough, but has an excellent bedside manner. He can dumb things down so that you understand and also speak in full blown medical lingo that I understand very well. I was impressed w the cleanliness of the location, the pleasant, caring, and prompt staff, and overall experience. Dr. Dan called me personally to check on Lucy and was highly responsive to my concerns. Look no further if you want vets that care about your babies and treat them w the utmost care, this is the place. I am very pleased. Heck Lucy even gives the establishment 5 stars. The female doctor also spoke w me at length w regard to Lucy. She is extraordinarily thorough and detailed. I'm happy w both providers. This never happens!!! read more

Dr. Zakai and his team at Frederick Road Veterinary Hospital, while usually taking good care of my pets, fraudulently charged us twice for the same test. Then Dr. Dan Zakai was extremely rude to me on the phone. We were discussing whether to get another expensive extra test for my dog whose symptoms had gone away on their own. He was pressing hard for us to pay extra for another unnecessary test. He wouldn't listen to me when I explained that the symptoms had gone away, and that previous testing and my dog's behavior made it extremely unlikely that anything was currently wrong. Even though I am a doctor myself, he insisted on talking over me and - there's no other way to explain it - mansplaining concepts with which I am quite familiar. At one point he told me to stop talking and raised his voice to almost a shout even though I was talking with a normal tone and quite reasonably explaining my dog's behavior to him. I know veterinarians must make money to survive, but it seems to me that Dr. Dan Zakai is overcharging and sending unnecessary tests. read more

Let me just start out by saying this place and the doctor are great!!! I moved to Maryland at the end of April and have been traveling back to Pennsylvania when my dog needs to go to the vet. On Saturday I had needed an emergency visit due to diarrhea for 3 weeks. Even though the vet was booked, they made time for me to come in. They are nicest people here! I was in and out within an hour and a half and that's even with an x-ray being taken and blood work. They told me I might have to wait because they were so booked up, but in and out in an hour and a half was faster than i would have thought even if i did have an appointment and they weren't crazy busy. I just received a follow up call and I couldn't appreciate it more. I feel like this place really does care for my animal and not just about my money. Money is another thing. Before the x-rays and blood work were done I was given a rough estimate of $300-350 for x-rays and blood work. When I got to the counter my bill was $290 for 4 medications, blood work, x-rays, a stool sample, and a visit (1/2 the price of what I would have paid in PA). Overall I can't thank Frederick Rd Vet Hospital enough and couldn't be pleased more with the services. I am so pleased that I am even going to switch my primary vet to them! read more

This vet is horrible. When we first moved to Catonsville, we didn't know where to go. After seeing the positive reviews online for this vet, we thought we'd give them a shot. While we took our first of two cats there with no problem, there's more to be said about what happened with our second cat. Our newly rescued cat, Pickles, needed a regular check-up, which spiraled out of control. I had mentioned during the visit that I noticed Pickles was abnormally hungry all the time, which was ignored. Dr. Dan couldn't see into Pickles' ears so an ear-flush was performed shortly after the check-up visit. Afterward, I thought Pickles was going to die because he didn't eat for almost 5 days and was hiding in very strange spots. Pickles also stopped hearing shortly after the procedure was done and remains to be deaf ... years later. When following up with Dr. Dan initially, he admitted that something went wrong with the procedure and wanted to conduct another one, free of charge. Since I was worried about Pickles dying this second time around, I took him to a different vet for a second opinion. The new vet discovered through a blood test that his ear problem, as rare as it was, was linked to hyperthyroid disease (common in older cats), which also related to his abnormally increased appetite. We had rescued this cat off the streets, after all, and had no idea how old he was (even though Falls Road Animal Hospital told us he was probably 2-3 years old when we rescued him, haha, boy were they wrong). Since going to the second opinion vet, he has been doing better than ever. When thinking if I had proceeded to take Pickles back for another procedure to this vet, I really don't think he would be sitting on my lap as I type this. I highly recommend against going to this vet. While Dr. Dan and Dr. Lisa are nice people, I would never trust them with my pets after what happened to Pickles. read more
