Soppin Shrimp
Jessica K.

Everything we ate at Fred's Around the Corner was packed with flavor and so, so good. We started with the dip trio - beer cheese, black bean hummus, pimento cheese. While they were all good, the hummus was definitely our fave. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak with a side of red beans and rice, and loved it. I ordered the soppin shrimp in garlic parmesan sauce - it was rich and creamy and so good. I also had one of the best side Caesar salads I've had in a long time. The Caesar dressing was perfect!

This amazing little hole in the wall is located in Knox Brew Hub!! Great food and ambiance. I got the red beans and rice with chicken to go on a cold night and it was perfection. We definitely will be back to get some more food and some good drinks at Knox Brew Hub!!

Food: A+ Service: A+ Ambiance: A+ This was our first time and it won't be our last. We walked right in and ordered at the bar. We were given a number and picked a table close to the windows. We waited a good amount of time for the food, but it was well worth it. Best bowl of rice and beans I've ever had. I will now dream of those. We sat there silently shoveling our faces. Tonight was chess night and it was a blast. Boards were provided and participants were friendly. They also have board games available for others. Will be visiting again soon.

First time at Fred's Around the Corner and was so impressed with the food, service, and flavor. We ordered the Soppin Shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back.

Great food and great prices! Love the array of options and the service is great! You can also purchase packs of beer from their coolers if interested!

A yearly work trip to Knoxville had me heading to the Knoxville Brew Hub for a couple of beers. Looks like this eatery is now part of the establishment. I had the po boy shrimp tacos, blackened and dirty. It was delicious.

it's like cheers- where everybody knows your name! except they have better beer...and better food...and a bunch of hot sauces... and the staff is even more phenomenal... and it's not called cheers... and it's not in boston. so, actually it's not like cheers at all... still- you need to check it out, get a pint, get some great grub, meet good people and leave with a smile on your face! then do it again.

We've been to Knox Brew Hub before, but this was the first time since they started Fred's Beans & Rice. It's usually very quiet, but this day they were broadcasting a soccer game along with hosting some very vociferous fans. So it was a bit loud...until the game ended. The staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. We ordered our beers at the bar, then chose our seats and reviewed the menu. After making our selection, we returned to the bar to place our order and be re-seated. The Brunch Shrimp Tacos (Naughty but Nice) were excellent. Great flavor without being too spicy. I enjoyed the potato salad as well. The side of red beans and rice was a bit too spicy for me though. So my wife ate those! A bartender came around frequently to clear our table and check on us. Overall, a good, casual place to stop for lunch or dinner.

It is located within the Knox Brew Hub . If you aren't a beer drinker it's still totally worth a trip here. ( BTW you can just order a coke if you don't want a beer) If you are a beer drinker then there's a great selection & the food is wonderful. I've eaten the po' boys, the gumbo & the red beans & rice . Everything is very tasty with the right amount of spice. The staff are very friendly & make you feel welcomed . I can't wait to go back to try more.

One word-AWESOME! We happened up on Fred's Beans and Rice one Wednesday on Union Ave. The staff was helpful and friendly and the environment was cool and laid back. They have 20+ craft beer selections reppin' various breweries around town. And lastly, the food was the absolute BEST! We had the Smothered red beans and rice with blackened chicken and shrimp, and jambalaya The owner, Zack was super friendly and knowledgeable! We will definitely come here again!

Good food and fast service. The cheesesteak is the perfect size for lunch and was ready in less than 15 minutes.

It appears you can enter either from the interior door opposite The Oliver Royale Restaurant or from the outside. I never saw the exterior entrance but have heard there's no sign, just a red light above a door. I am not sure how the whole password thing works or where to get it.... I just know the person I was with had it. We sat at the bar and the ambiance is really intimate. I have read now after being home that I guess they hide drink recipes in some of the books? I am not sure if that is true or not. If you can get a seat at the bar, it's so fun. Trey was great, as were the ladies! Trey puts on a little show with each drink he crafts. The drinks are ridiculously good. I would not be able to choose a favorite. I have no clue what the bill damage was, but I can say that between the both of us, we had every drink on the menu. Now I need to find reasons to go back to Knoxville just to go to the Peter Kern Library!

When we walked in, she glared at us as if we had interrupted something. She didn't greet us, didn't ask what we'd like to try, only gave us one word answers to any question that we asked. Never once smiled or tried to engage us. My friend was so frustrated with trying to get information from her that he stood up and almost walked out. I kept trying to engage her and even complemented her cute dress. Nothing. Stone face. I wanted to try the amaro flight and asked for it. She prepared it, set it in front of me, and said "so you'll want to close out now?" I told her "yes, that would be great, when I'm finished with my tasting". She proceeded to lean up against the bar with her back to us and didn't say another word. I had to get up and walk to the register, and when she finally turned around, I asked her "have we done something to upset you?" She said "no, why?" I said "because you seem REALLY annoyed that we're here". Her only response was to turn the register screen around and tell me the total. I'm so sad about this because I really wanted to taste other items and get a cocktail, but she was SO unpleasant and we felt SO unwelcome., Seeing all of the other great reviews, I can only imagine that they were with other people. I wish those other bartenders had been there.

They sell bottles of varying sizes at the bar and also at other places around town, including Total Wine. We love that they offer sampler flights with different liquors and also different size pours. They give you a tray with a sheet that describes the flavor profile for each offering. We also were given slushy samples and a customized gin sample, mixed with another shot to sip. We ordered slushies to enjoy on the patio and a flight with Hi Rye Whiskey, Ginferous Gin (favorite!), Uproot Gin, and Barrel Rested Cacoa Liqueur. I can't believe the differing flavors they can produce within the same type of booze. Masterful! The bartenders are friendly and so dang knowledgable. We purchased a bottle of Ginferous Gin and have kept the party going at home. Can't wait to go back! What a cool spot.

They have some really fun drinks with pop-culture references, a sizable list of mocktails, booze list galore, and keep beer flowing , too. The service is friendly and the prices in line (if not cheaper) with other bars downtown ($11-12 per cocktail). We loved that people are allowed to bring in their own food (they have a few snacks you can order) and that dogs are welcome. In fact, word has it that the bar is named after the owners' dog, Monkey, so it makes sense that they pass along their pup love to our community. Note that huge (but very sweet) dogs may be freely roaming and were knocking into people carrying full drinks and begging strangers for food. Also, we were with a group across from the bar and I will say that it was absolutely deafening. We were next to each other and were yelling, "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!?" They could use a few items to soak up some sound like cushions on the bench seating, some rugs, etc. It would also make the space a bit more homey and inviting.

I was disappointed that my food was warm, not hot when served. My sister got a lobster roll "extra stuffed," which did not appear to be extra-stuffed. I got the chicken carbonara and believe that I got a large portion for the price point. The service was a bit on the slower side, but I did not see as many waiters as I thought I would have for a Saturday evening. My expectations were high due to the price point and formality, and I was a bit let down. The vibes in here were fun. I think that if it was better staffed and the seafood portions were priced accordingly, we would have had a better experience and thought we got a better deal for the price.
