I've been going here for about 4 years now, and I have always received upstanding work and quality from Fred's. From when my old Chevy Captiva's engine, spark plugs, alternator, and everything else that broke down to now my Toyota Camry which has much less problems, I have gotten almost all my work done here. They have consistently been trustworthy and do their best to keep prices low for their customers. There will always be people who spin stories and try to play gotcha with mechanics and service jobs, but I would take the haters reviews with a grain of salt. Look don't get me wrong the guys are Friendly but when it comes to the work I don't know if I can say it's professional. I came in for my Nissan for a brake fluid leak. (UPDATE - after driving my car around my check engine light came on. i am extremely mad about this. I don't understand how this could had possibly happen and now my car has this light. all they did was change a master cylinder... DONT EVER COME HERE) They told me it was the master cylinder (which in my head I knew it was already because I wanted to do it myself but everyone told me go to them) I looked up cylinders for my car and the most expensive one I saw was 105 so I just let them provide the part. I needed it done the same day but they told me tomorrow which whatever okay it's cool. Not once did they ever tell me if I wanted to go through with it nor did they tell me the part and brand they bought. They didn't inform me on what they were going to do. I had to be the one to keep asking questions. I felt rushed, as if they wanted me gone quickly. God knows if they even if they did it right. They told me it was ready I go and it costed me almost 400 for everything.... Unbelievable the part they bought was 164 and the labor 150 which I get it but when I got it they didn't bother to show me what they did. Gave me the keys and started saying bye... I had to ask to show me the car and the work they did for it... They didn't even show me my old master cylinder. They left grease and oil stains on my steering wheel and car hood. After I took the car for a drive, it starting acting weird... it wasn't doing this before I came to Fred's. Now it's hard to accelerate/jerks and it idles rough now. when I checked out my car... I saw a part of my air intake filter hose was broken, which it wasn't broken before. IDK but I won't be coming back. I am writing this review in hopes that someone else might see it among all these raving reviews and save themselves from a potentially deadly situation. Please see the photos. This is Fred's work. I was a customer of Fred's for 8 years and always appreciated the low costs and what I thought was honest work. Then last August (2017) I took my car in for rear brakes. The mechanic who was working on my car left for lunch (my car was one of the last cars repaired for the day - i am pretty certain this story was a blatant lie) without putting new pads in. The car was marked as complete and they called me to pick it up. The next day, I was driving home from work in Beverly Hills and suddenly found myself without any brakes whatsoever. I was extremely lucky that I had no cars in front of me as I rolled off to the side. This could have killed someone at a higher speed. Fred did NOT console me, did NOT reimburse costs, and even stated that he could NOT GUARANTEE it would never happen again. Well he was right about that last part. Today I took my car in for a smog and oil change somewhere else. The mechanic showed me that when I took my car to Fred on 11/30/2017, the mechanic who changed my oil left the old seal and added a second seal on incorrectly. Again I was very lucky as this could have cost me my engine. Fred GUARANTEED me personally that he would put his best mechanic on this work. I will never return to Fred. Maybe he used to be great, but no longer. Please save yourself. Pay the extra 20 bucks and go somewhere with quality care. read more

Was a customer, and I will never be back again. I took my car there early June of 2022 for a brake repair. They fixed my brakes and all my rotors. I soon started to hear a clicking noise that correlated with my brakes (when I would begin to brake, the clicking was fast. As I would begin to really slow down, the clicking would slow down. When I was finally stopped, the clicking was gone.) I took my car back to them assuming that it had to deal with the brake job that I recently had done. They told me it was the ABS brake pump and would be $700-$800 dollars to fix. ***please keep in mind, my ABS light never came on I told them I would have to consider since that was a lot of money upfront. I started to drive home and I could not drive passed 30 mph on telegraph. my wheel was vigorously shaking (I had to hold tightly to drive straight). I immediately drove back to them with my hazards on as I felt extremely unsafe to drive my car. I drive one of the mechanics around to show him that this is NOT the condition I left my car in and that this condition was unsafe to drive anywhere (I drive 45 minutes on the freeway to work daily). I refused to pay for the correction work since I did not leave my car in that condition and offered to pay half the price for them to fix my ABS since I was very unset with the service provided. They message me the next morning saying that everything was fixed, at no cost, because it was never the ABS system and all my car needed was a correction of the brake job/rotors. They mentioned that the brake job problem was mimicking the ABS system and not to worry because my ABS light never flashed (which I knew from the beginning). Total scam!! I am so glad I did not pay for the ABS upfront because it would have been a huge rip off on their part. I am very disappointed and will never be returning. read more

I got lucky enough to get introduced to Fred's Automotive about 3 years ago. My Jeep was at the dealer and they told me it would cost me $1600 to take the engine apart to see if the heads were cracked. This was a company car and I wasn't paying for it but I still wanted a second opinion. A friend Vicki told me this guy was from her church and he was really honest and he was close to work and home so I give him a try. I drop off the car and he tells me that the temp thermometer is bad and some other yada yada yada and it is going to cost me $285. Are you kidding! So I get it fixed and I am off to the races. I can't believe the Jeep dealer in Cerritos wanted to take the engine apart. Someone at the company had also installed a AV system "after" the fuse so if I let the car sit for more than 3 nights, lets say on a long rainy weekend, the battery would be dead. I couldn't get authorization to pay for the fix from work so I figure I would just pay for it myself, I was tiered of having to wait for AAA when you want to leave on Monday morning and its $35. They also fix a light for under $10. Long story short, they are very very honest. You dont have to worry about the guys coming to tell you that the brake pads are low when you come in for an oil change even though they have more than half the pads left [thanks Midas in LP]. Last month I had a friend Paul, who had been having a little back luck with his car ask me to jump his car so he could take it to buy a battery. I drive over there and he is telling me his battery is about a year old so I tell him to take it here. The tow truck drops if off after 6 PM and the next morning by 9 AM he has a call saying it was the alternator and it is less than a new battery. I could go on and on but I just love that I dont have to worry about what Sal, Fred or any of the guys tell you because it is the honest opinion and they are not upgrading you to make extra cash. read more

Fred and his team are good mechanics. They'll be there if you need to fix anything on your car. I had to fix a few things including a multiple check engine light issue, which were resolved with some cleaning and replacing of a few parts with the throttle body, air filter and a leaky hose. Also, had a fuel pump removed and replaced. But as with all mechanics, their rates can be a bit expensive. Some of my repairs were a bit expensive, but at Fred's, you're getting it at the same industry price as any other mechanic. Labor is standard at $80 per hour and then depending on your repair, the cost on parts will vary. Again, Fred's an honest mechanic. If time permits, Fred will offer you a ride home when you drop off your car. Would recommend if you're in the area and need any sort of auto repair. But, if you can accomplish a few DIY here and there, you can really save on some dollars. read more

We took a picture and a video with the iphone of a belt that had slipped out of place and just showed it to the guys.. They sent a very nice guy with us who made sure to lay down plastic on my seats and floor before he got in my car. He drove my BFF's car to the shop after removing the loose belt as we fallowed..
