(I had this in my drafts and forgot to post so im posting it now) I usually go to a mechanic in Upland, CA but when my check engine light turned on yesterday while i was here in Whittier i decided to look for a mechanic in this area since im always in Whittier. We went driving around to see what shops we found. Im really big on vibes and so when i spoke to a few mechanics I didn't feel comfortable with them. I wanted a place that wasnt overly expensive but that did a great job. After stopping at a few shops we saw this one and stopped. My first impression was 50's vibe lol Its like a small historic museum with a lot of retro items. The person I spoke to came across as a "no bs" type of guy. I heard him talking to the person in front of me and although I was a bit intimidated I felt that he would be honest and felt a good vibe. He was very professional. The communication was excellent. Service was quick. And they explained what needed to be done in a way I understood. The receipt they give is very detailed which I loved. I have since got a new car but if i ever need a mechanic, i would come here! read more

I called prior to get a price quote and they said it could be done today. I decided to wait while they did this service. Dan at Craig's Automotive is a top notch mechanic. He's a mechanic who doesn't have to be there but wants to be there because of how much he likes working on cars. I've been bringing my 2007 Ford Econoline, 2013 Subaru Outback, and 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 there for the last nine years and Dan and his staff have been able able to solve any issue I've had with any of my vehicles. It's not often that a mechanic shop has the capabilities and knowledge to work on classic vehicles and modern vehicles at the same. The charges are fair and my vehicles are fixed in a timely matter. The best part is that I know when the work is done that it was done right and I won't have to bring the vehicle back for the same problem. Dave at the front desk is also very knowledgeable and very thorough at explaining what the problem is and how much it will cost, he always makes sure to get my approval before doing the work. I recently brought TWO of my vehicles here after a bad experience at another shop that didn't solve either problem. My first was a check engine light on my 2000 4Runner. They quickly diagnosed an improperly installed and faulty oxygen sensors along with bad mass air flow sensor. Problem solved. Dan and Dave are incredible. They won't lie to you if they can't accomplish something. Their prices are reasonable but the customer service is incredible. If they find something additionally wrong with your vehicle they call you before doing it, let you know how much it costs and if you want to move forward. They are two pros that I totally trust my handicap accessible van with for almost anything. I get everything done here except oil changes (only because I love the convenience of a drive thru). Took my truck for battery replacement and these morons installed a 9 month old battery that was barely charged less than 20% . programmed it incorrectly too , had to take truck to dealer to het it all done correctly. talked with them and they are quick to dismiss any issues. cheap place with cheap people. stay away from this dump. Took my car in for a smog test, was told I needed a battery, so they replaced it and did a oil change. They never did a smog test and I was told to drive it 40 miles and bring it back so they can test it. Why didn't they test it like they were told to ? So 500 dollars later I still need to get a smog check done. I spoke to Dan and basically got screwed for 500.00 for a battery and oil change. I used to be happy going here, but that will change since I'm not going back to deal with Dan and get ripped off again. Maybe I'm not the only one to complain since they had no cars to work on in the shop, didn't even see anyone working in the shop. DON'T GO HERE !! IF I could take away the star I would read more

I was told by a friend that this place wasn't good. They've had so much trouble with this place a few years prior and I just needed a quick smog. It was so convenient being right next to AAA. I went in and the older man there was extremely rude and unhelpful. We ask if he needed our keys and he responded with "how else am I supposed to smog the car" and then as I was walking out to tell my fiancé to step out of the car he then said "How the f*** else am I supposed to do it. Do I need to put a sign up?" I grabbed my keys and left. I was so shocked at the unprofessionalism that was displayed and will never return. I do not recommend. read more

Called to get general information about replacing a part for a classic car but more than anything to get a feel for their overall customer service since I just moved to the area and have never done any business with them. Whoever answered the phone was being extra short and just said "No, impossible." I explained that the car would need to be towed and I just wanted a ballpark figure (since I already had the part) but he "shrugged me off" and we both hung up. Needless to say, I'm almost glad they were rude and showed their true colors from the beginning because it saved me from dealing with them down the line. Today I took my car here for a standard smog check and had a very good experience. I had called ahead to see if I needed to make an appointment and they said that I did not. I was able to walk in and out of the shop within 15 minutes. The entire staff was very friendly and very accommodating. I even forgot my registration that was needed for the smog check, but they were still able to help me out. I highly recommend coming back here and I will be coming back here for automotive needs now that my husband and I's car warranties are up. Took my car for a smog check today. It had an engine light on so it failed. When I asked why he even ran the smog if he knew it would fail, Dan said the state of California makes them fail so many cars just to keep his license. I said that was a terrible way to operate. Then one of the mechanics was leaning all over my car. You would think they would know better. A good mechanic would not let you waste your money. I guess it is hard to find trust worthy people. I would never trust my vehicle with a mechanic that operates like that. Don't waste your money or time with these guys. read more
