Delicious sandwich is consistent regardless of location! Used to get lunch as often as I could when I taught near the 15th street location; now I drove home (from a different campus) past the Allen location and the cheesesteak sandwich is still as flavorful and delicious as ever. Gotta give special props to this location - this evening, my daughter and I went back out to the car to await our order of a large extra meat for my hubby and a regular for me (we can buy large bags of Utz BBQ chips at RaceTrac now) since another family had just ordered ahead of us and we were told it would be 7-10 minutes. Five minutes later, the cook personally walked out order out to our car! Now that's service! My husband nommed his way through the entire 10" sandwich and kept remarking how good it was and how we've got to go there more often. Keep up the great job, Fred's! read more

Haven't even received my order yet but I sure hope the food is better than the service! I am a regular here and must say I miss the original staff. Much more friendly and personable. My family and I went there last night to check it out to compare the 2 places- Big Tony's and Fred's- positives for Fred's- bigger place , a little cleaner with that being said the cheesesteaks are hot but the taste was just not there. The sweet potato fries were soggy and tasteless. I prefer big Tony's because the taste is just better and the sweet potato fries are great! read more

The service is average with a sub par greeting at the door. The food is consistently great, but the place is always dirty. The tables are always littered with crumbs. I even watched an employee walk over to empty tables to move the condiments back to their original spots, yet he didn't bother to wipe any of the tables down. Came in after getting sick and tired of Big Tony's getting my order wrong and not caring. Was pleasantly surprised! This restaurant is clean and roomy inside with great decor! Staff was organized and professional and my mushroom cheesesteak was perfect! The meat was tender, the bread warm and soft without being soggy. Their food is exceptional. The wait seems to be a little longer than I would like but we'll Wirth it. The people there are friendly and professional. They always have the TV on si that you can enjoy it while you wait for the food. At least it isn't food that has been setting under a food lamp. It's made fresh and you can tell the difference. My hubby & I love Fred's. We lived outside of Harrisburg, PA for 3 yrs and had a nearby "South Philly Cheesesteaks" (absolutely yummy if you're ever in Mechanicsburg, PA); Fred's is the closest thing to a PA cheesesteak down south. The food is consistently good & the staff is always friendly & accommodating. All orders are made fresh when ordered. If ordering take out, they ask how long/when will you be here & their timing is pretty spot on. I've never waited more than about a minute (tops 2) for my order to be completed hot & fresh. Ask Scott for the "hot crack" sauce (so good it'll have you addicted). They get their bread from Amoroso's (Philly standard) & have Utz chips (Hanover, PA). FYI - I disagree with the few reviewers who claim the sandwich is lacking in the meat department. It's a proper sandwich, not over-stuffed but certainly not skimpy.... It's just right, Goldilocks!
