The Rocky with Sweet Potato Fries

Absolutely fantastic. As a transplant from New Jersey, I am picky about my cheesesteaks. I just discovered Fred's and it is hands down the best I have had outside the greater Philly area. I'm generally a purist but I gave the Rocky (meat, Cheese Wiz, onions, sausage, and bacon) a try and it was incredible. So good! I liked it so much that I complimented the chef, who turned out to be Fred himself. For my fellow cheesesteak connoisseurs, I cannot recommend highly enough.

Tried Fred's Downtown Philly a couple weeks ago. Cheesesteaks were pretty darn good and I'm told it's as close to authentic east coast as it gets. They have a bunch of pre-configured selections which was nice. Gotta be honest though, I could have used more cheese (altho i did not get any wiz on it) so maybe that was it..IDK. I was pretty hungry so the 10" didn't fill me up so got another and finished that too. But after was uncomfortably full. Would be good to have an in between option like a 15" or something, but I understand that the bread vendor may not make rolls in that size. So next time, I'll order 2 but eat 1.5 and take the rest for later. Fries were seasoned well, but I prefer thicker cut fries vs. real skinny ones. Still good though. overall, will definitely be going back.

Average food. Not bad, but not great. Also the establishment is filthy. And they weren't even busy. Not coming back.

Got the fat fred, burger topped with cheesesteak. The steak paired nicely with the patty.

Outstanding Philly experience. As close to home I have found in TX over the last 30 years! It is our regular stop from now on!

Best Cheesesteaks in DFW!!! I've had plenty of authentic Philly Cheesesteaks in my life, and I'd…read moreeasily rank Fred's among the best in Philly! The first time I went to Fred's, the owner was at the register greeting everyone who came in with an enthusiastic smile. I had a feeling the food was great because every seat in the restaurant was filled. I ordered the #4 - double meat and cheese Cheesesteak with mayo and fries. Luckily, I found a table as my food arrived and quickly found myself in Cheesesteak heaven! For the price, it was an incredible portion of steak and cheese, and every bite seemed better than the last until the end. I came back with my partner, this time adding their delicious Cheesesteak egg rolls to my order. She chose the pepper Cheesesteak and thought everything was delightful. Everything was so good that it was hard to resist the urge to order more food for later! You can tell that Fred genuinely enjoys his work, and his energy is infectious. His staff and customers all appear very happy to be there, creating a sense of a close-knit community.

Fred, Fred, Fred…read more... I absolutely hate writing this review as we've been customers since you opened this Plano location. However our satisfaction has decreased with each visit. While I was pleased to see your lunch crowd had the place 90% full, the 22 minute wait for 2 lukewarm cheesesteak sandwiches (both mine amd my spouse's), having to ask for ketchup and being told "they are on the tables". Well, there are 9 tables and only 2 bottles of ketchup amongst them. Only after 2 other diners asked for ketchup was another (ONE) bottle given to the 3rd person to ask for ketchup. On a positive note... the fries were hot. perhaps you leave the cheesesteaks on the grill until the fries are done? Now the travesty of all.... the last 3 visits no Hank's sodas have been stocked. We are not Pepsi product fans. so we ended up with the 6 Oz water cup but it's free so won't complain about that. The cool temperature cheesesteaks were not finished by either myself or DH. Please get back to your standards that got us to be regulars, we definitely will be going to the Allen location before coming back unless we see positive reviews.

Awesome food, great staff, friendly atmosphere. And I have to add more characters to post this…read morereview.

First time to try their cheesesteak on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered a poblano cheesesteak, onion…read morerings and a small side of cheese. Asked for water, as I don't drink soft drinks or tea and the young man told me "we don't give cups for water, what do you want to drink". I said nothing to drink then and got my bottled water from the car. People should be able to have water with their meal, even if you have to charge for the cup or sell bottled water. Just my opinion. Sandwich was tasty but I didn't taste/see much cheese, supposedly Swiss? O rings were good and crispy, fair portion. Side of cheese sauce was TINY, fyi. Service at the counter was friendly other than the refusing a cup for water. Manager/owner came thru dining room to check on customers, good move. I didn't like the credit card surcharge (without being told or signage advising) as I had cash. 15% tip for counter service with the CC surcharge made my sandwich and o rings $18 and I had to provide my own water. Pricey lunch. Dining room could use a good sweeping, washing and painting. Both restrooms had signs on the door that they were out of order, but employees used them? Food and service 4 stars, minus a star for unannounced surcharge and no water. I would go again but not dine in, so I can get water and use the restroom.
