We started eating at Big Tony's in DeSoto, Texas as my daughter introduced us to her weekly routine. Then she introduced her fiancé, now husband to weekends at Big Tony's. Imagine our shock in April when we were ordering food, and Amanda mentioned to the clerk her love of Big Tony's and how much she has missed it. Lo and behold Big Tony was there and over heard her. He was with some clients and came over and introduced himself. What a kind gentleman with the sweetest soul. My daughter and I were elated and she couldn't wait to call her spouse, lol. Being from Philly everything was tasty but I asked for whiz and I'm not sure that's what I got. It was orange but was too chunky to be whiz. The bread was really good and the meat was seasoned well. We've dined at Big Tony's a couple of times over the past few years. The food is good, quality is consistent, and the staff is always friendly and helpful with questions regarding menu items. We actually met Big Tony about a year ago as he was working in the restaurant that day. The food and service is great, but the ambiance is another story. The place is clean overall, but the decor in the dining area is old, and dated. A few minor updates would make a huge difference and could possibly attract more customers. A fresh coat of paint, new artwork and new tables and chairs would be a great improvement. Otherwise, we always have a positive experience. read more

Had a phone order which I meant to make at Fred's, still ordered Fred's but went to Big Tony's because I ordered regardless. Stood there at register and both Tony and the cook came to register neither acknowledging me. They were arguing over the cook giving food to the wrong person. Sat there for several minutes, another customer laughed because they were arguing ignoring me. Told the customer I guess I'm not that important and walked out. Your argument was more important than your customers, so Fred's will continue to have my business. read more

Sadly, like so many food establishments, Tony's has declined considerably since COVID. Have eaten at the Allen location almost since it opened - and it used to be good (4 star or better). But now, 3 is the absolute best for the combination of mediocre cheesesteak, service and value for money. Had a No. 15 with ribeye (Not on my sammy even though upcharged), but it was very tasteless until i took it home and added cheese, mayo and sauce. upcharge for 'spicy' french fries on top of the combo fee??? I hated to say anything, because we've been loving Big Tony's for years, but on our last visit we were rather disappointed. We realize with the economy that prices are going up, and maybe Anthony is just trying to keep his prices from rising too much. But our cheesesteak order on this occasion was very sparse on actual beef. If you look at my past photos, the portions were pretty generous. This time, the beef didn't even cover the bread. My husband enjoyed his sandwich, he ordered the regular size which was too small for him, if you "can eat" order the large sub. My bbq sandwich was just okay, too much bbq and very simple. I'm not one that typically goes out and gets Cheesesteaks, but every now and then there happens to be a place that I just feel like trying. I read up on some local rivalry or something between this place and another one called Fred's or something, and it seemed interesting enough to become a part of, so I went in to try it. I ordered the Que Cheesesteak and it did not disappoint. Was it among the best Cheesesteaks I've ever had in Philly? Not quite. However, it is definitely really good. The feel of the place is also great, the atmosphere definitely gives off a hole-in-the-wall type place with kind employees and lots of fun sports decor on the wall. So what was good about Tony's place? First, the onions... perfect amount, perfectly cooked and perfectly caramelized. Second, the Whiz! Most cheesesteak places don't even know that Cheese Whiz is an essential ingredient of any good cheesesteak. Third, the bun was good and fresh. And finally, there was an ample serving of meat! The Philly Cheese Steak taste good but their ratio is way off. The small has less than half a cup of filling in them. I had to scrape my insides down to fill up my sandwich leaving o'er half my sandwich empty. The staff is rude but smiles while they're rudest its even worse than bad service. And you have to pay for bbq sauce which is fine but you can only pay cash. Which we didn't have. And even tho we spent $40 on lunch we couldn't have a cup of BBQ for our sweet potato fries. Weird. We have been long time fans of this place, but our last customer service experience was horrible. My fiance picked up sandwiches on the way home. He specified multiple times when ordering my veggie sandwich that I was a vegetarian. Even joked with the cashier about how he would be in trouble if he brought home something I couldn't eat. He got home with a meaty sandwich I couldn't eat. Annoying, but I got back in the car to drive back to the location (receipt in hand) to get a replacement. I called on the way so I could cut down wait time when I arrived. After being passed around 3 employees I spoke to the assistant manager and explained what had happened, and gave him the receipt number. After reviewing the order, the sandwich had never been put in correctly, so it showed as a meat sandwich on the receipt. Because of this I had to either bring back the other sandwich or pay full price for a replacement. I explained I did not have the actual sandwich with me, just the receipt, and all I wanted was a meal I could eat. Got no help and short answers. This meant I had to turn around to go home to get the sandwich and then drive back to the store to get a replacement (at this point getting a sandwich was a matter of principle). When we arrived we still had to argue with the assistant manager to get a replacement. Had to wait for them to make it, and never got an apology or an admission of responsibility on their part. My fiance ended up asking for a number we could call and had to push the issue to make them give us one. They tried to avoid it all together. Overall took 1.5 hours to get a sandwich I could eat between initial ordering and all the driving back and forth (we live in Northern McKinney). I am not a difficult customer to work with or please. I have over 200 positive reviews on Yelp. This was way too stressful for a sandwich. It is much less about the mistake and much more about how it was handled. My take away is if you eat here, check your receipt as soon as you get it for errors. Because even while we waited for the replacement sandwich to be made, the girl at the front was struggling to input orders and having to ask for help. read more

The ribeye is often a little dry which is a bummer, because otherwise it's a good cheesesteak. The big issue I have with this place is the service. Every time I've been there the service is weird and awkward at best, uncomfortable and rude at worst. The staff just don't seem to care about how they interact with customers.
