Lemon slice to douse the fish for some twang zest to eat the fish. Very Juicy & Buttery Corn on the Cob Added another layer of Yummilicious to this box deal. Making this an affordable alternative to Burgers or Taco's..... Whether it's a Sunday special or something different day special, it's definitely worth the money & time to eat some solid goodness food. This meal filled me up for the entire day. read more

My wife and I had seen Fred's fish fry on a youtube video and decided to try it out. We found a Fred's Fish Fry location on Culebra and went and ordered 2 - 3 piece and a side of onion rings. The following is the disaster that our first time at Fred's Fish Fry was; 1. They did not give us our Onion rings .. But still charged us for them 2. for the few Customers that were there (3) The wait was about 20 min. We were in the drive through with only 1 ahead of us and only 2 customers inside. 3. The fish looked like it was sinking in on it self. 4. The fish when you bit into it was dry and over cooked. 5. The bread was dry and had a rough texture to the whit part. 6. There were only 1 little packet of Tarter sauce and 1 Ketchup. 7. The fish was dark in color and did not look appealing (maybe because of over cooking. 8. Not very many fries in the box. But what fries there were tasted great and were the right texture. All in all, our trip to Fred's Fish Fry is an Hour out of our lives we will never get back. However- My Dog loved it, We gave her all of it and she was a happy Rottweiler. Maybe is should be Fred's Dog Chow.! read more

We've lived in San Antonio for over 7 years and I've always wanted to try Fred's Fish Fry. The staff was friendly and fairly quick so they definitely contribute to the stars given. The picture is the $30 Super Family Box. 12 bricks of "fish," a tiny fry, and a stack of white bread. First of all, what family would be ok with a fry that size? Second, the stack of bread. I'm not even sure what to say. Lastly, cocktail sauce is not given as part of this feast. You get a gallon of tartar sauce but you have to ask for the measly cocktail sauce. One more thing, the menu doesn't have details. LOL. So, it's really a mystery box until you get home. San Antonio staple, I think not. Perhaps the fried shrimp for next time to potentially redeem this experience. read more

I'd heard all the jokes and stories about Fred's, and when I take Culebra to go to/from work, I see this particular one. And I have to say - I never see more than one car there. But recently, I decided to work on my San Antonio citizenship, and give it a try. I got the regular fish meal - three squares of fish, fries, and two slices of bread, along with two packets each of tartar sauce and ketchup. Fries were fine. Fish wasn't bad, to my taste, although the shape reminded me an awful lot of both high school and college cafeteria food. (70s and 80s.) Had no idea what to do with the bread - I figured it was there to soak up moisture (which it did), and it was pretty unappealing at that point. But you know what? I got a filling meal and paid a whole $6.77 for it. And because they drop the food when you order it, it's as hot as The Sun when you get it. Even with a 10-15 minute ride home, my meal was still good and hot. And there's nothing wrong with that. I went there mostly to check of a "thing to do," but I would go back and get food there again. (Oh, and bonus? A car pulled behind me while I was waiting, so there were *2* cars there at the same time!) read more

So when I don't feel like cooking, I stop by Fred's. Say what you want about this joint but I just went today and the staff was very kind and friendly. The food was made fresh. I have to say that the taste of the fish and shrimp is Good! They are fish patties but the breading was golden and crisp. The fries were hot and also crisp. Their in-house tartar was so soooo good! Don't knock it till you try it here. read more

Food takes a little while but that's because you know they make to order so it's hot and fresh. Never disappointed here. There .99 cent chicken sandwich is a great deal. Comes with tarter sauce and pickles, can't beat that and it's delicious! Husband always gets their regular plate that come with three prices of fish, fries and bread. I hadn't had FFF in YEARS! I thought I'd try it and get my husband to try it because he's never had it. It did not disappoint. Fish and fries were hot and delicious! The only complaint would be the two Large sodas we got had absolutely NO carbonation! YUK! I called and he said he could refund us for the sodas so I may go later. We got the deluxe family meal. The flavor was pretty good. The tarter sauce was pretty amazing. But the sides didn't seem to match the amount of fish.
