    two glasses of wine

On our winery trail, we stopped at Free Run Cellars. I would describe this quaint place as an upscale boutique winery. The price point is a little high, but they do have some unique wines to choose from. We found a relaxing space to unwind by a little pond adjoining the vineyard. We were not hungry, but OMG...the charcuterie grazing boards looked fantastic!

Wife enjoying our 2 flights. Dry (close to viewer) and Sweet (close to wife) Flights.

This place is so modern cute. A lil more grown up than "hipster" in style. Inviting and intimate in size. Can get crowded easily. ROSÉ, GEWÜRZTRAMINER, & MEZZO were our top 3. ROSE--Bright, open, fruity but not jammy. Refrsingly smooth without bite some rosés have. Can actually savor the grapes. GEWÜRZTRAMINER--Very crisp and floral. Light and open flavors. Honeysuckle and lychee fruit flavors. ROSSO--A sweeter kind of Cab Sauv. Qualities of a dry red with a nice hint of sweetness. Just a touch of smoke at the end. Best of all words leaning a tad more on the sip and savor variety. Technically a 3.5 * review(if only cuz a tad understaffed) but airing on side of 4.

    Beautiful back patio view- wow!!

To say this place is tranquil and beautiful would be an understatement. The back patio is gorgeous. The wine is good and the server was excellent. It definitely has a vibe to sit back and drink a glass of wine on a lazy Saturday afternoon. It is not rushed or packed. I only took away a star because they don't do tastings. Only wine by the glass or a flight so we shared a flight. I wish we could have tried more!!

THIS IS FANTASTIC WINE .....and it seems like a hidden gem, though that could quickly change. Heard about Free Run from a close friend and we heard about it at our terrible tasting at Round Barn (seriously how are these two related?). Once you walk in it doesn't feel like a typical winery because they offer food pairings as well as a basic tasting. I believe it was a home that was renovated, though I could be totally wrong... Anywho, you get four wines for $12, but don't fret, the pours are heavy handed and they are delicious. We decided to sit outside on their patio area and its just amazing. You see a little pond as well as the grapes. The host brings out the wines for you and shows you which ones are what you picked. We all really enjoyed all of the wine we chose and left with about 6 bottles of wine.

We were looking for a dog-friendly winery around town and are so glad we found this place! The patio is spaced out with big umbrellas (great when it started drizzling). The staff are very friendly but still enforced COVID safety policies politely for a very large group, which made us feel very comfortable. The wine flights were good, and the charcuterie was great! They also were flexible swapping the meat option for another cheese on our board since we are vegetarian. A great experience - we will definitely come back when we're in town again! Thanks!

    Amazing! An absolutely delicious experience!!!

Amazing!!! There isn't a month in the summer we don't visit. It's a culinary wine pairing experience like no other I've had in well known restaurant wine pairing events. Very personalized and family type of welcoming owner and staff. Don't miss this stop!!!

Delicious wines & pairings just as good! Mushroom and garlic sformato & pound cake with strawberries & balsamic whipped cream.

A wonderfully relaxing place to spend a Sunday afternoon... and they accommodate dietary restrictions! Each appetizer item was created as a vegetarian alternative just for me. My friend and I learned more about this place's "pairing" experience while visiting the Lake Shore wine fest and were up for trying something different the following day. We felt very attended to during our visit and adored all of the wines and food. Annette was so pleasant and friendly and she really knew her stuff. We lingered longer with each of our own full glass and full appetizer after our tasting on the patio and grounds are stunningly gorgeous. Felt like a retreat and we'll be back!

Service very good BUT the winner are the grounds and ambiance! Rose is very good - soft and dry ... great on a summer afternoon.

They were doing a NOLA-themed menu, so we started out with a Sazerac which was DELICIOUS. We ended our meal with Spanish coffee, equally delicious even though our mixer said she'd never made one before. In-between, we enjoyed tuna tartare, oyster bisque, Cajun walleye with hush puppies, a smoky Cajun gumbo, beignets with chocolate sauce and an Argentine malbec. All EXCELLENT!!! If you haven't been to the Historian, you're missing out. Great food, friendly service, nice vibe and decent prices.

It was refreshing to peruse an interesting small plates menu which we would definitely go back to try on a future visit. There is also a traditional menu as well as a special menu on weekends prepared by a guest chef featuring international cuisine. We tried the "Thai Night" menu and especially enjoyed the vegetarian potstickers in a delicious Thai sauce and the noodle salad with shrimp. The flavors were layered, with a delicate creamy texture and just the right amount of spice. There is a parking lot on site and reservations are a must on weekends, although an early arrival might get you a nice spot at the bar!

We sat outside overlooking the vineyard. Molly was our server. She was friendly and engaging. Lunch was a walleye sandwich with chips for hubby and the fig & prosciutto flatbread for me. The walleye had a crispy crust coating the moist and tender fish. I took a bite of hub's sandwich and it was so good. My flatbread, though, was amazing. I'm all about a good crust and this one was perfection. So crispy, yet light with all air pockets in the crust. Of course, I love anything fig and this didn't disappoint. I ate 3 squares and took the rest with me. Of course being at the vineyard, we ordered a glass of wine. My husband had the albariño and I ordered the sauvignon blanc. I didn't care for the sauvignon blanc. When the manager came by, we raved about the food but I was honest about the wine. She gave me a taste of the chardonnay and she was right. It was good. I was happy she switched my wine. The negatives are the wasps are nuisances, and there were no traps to catch them. I was dodging them the entire meal. I guess it's hazard when dining al fresco. The other annoyance was the water glasses are small, and my water was never refilled and my glass sat empty even with Molly and the manager stopping by during the meal. Since the glass is small, they should leave a bottle of water at the table or make it a point to check and recheck the water glasses. This is a nice stop for lunch on the Michigan wine trail.

The food was delicious, and after eating we took a little hike with the boys around the property. They also had live music, which added so much to the vibe. We absolutely loved it!
