It was a difficult fix, but Cindy was determined to help us and she and the rest of the crew kept at it until they were able to get the rim free and a new tire installed. Ok it's been a couple of months since I had my brakes done and I gave them a 4 star.... BIG MISTAKE!!! so in the first week I could feel my brake vibration in the peddle and steering wheel when I stepped on the brakes Took it back to them twice within a month 1st within. 2 hrs they said it was my tires out of balance, drove it and same thing started vibration again 2nd time I did a video and sound of the issue took another 2+ hrs to tell me they had no idea and I should get a 2nd opinion!!!!! So the next day took it to a mechanic my brother knows only thing he lives about 30 mins away BAM in under 90 mins he told me and showed me the rotors they installed are the cheapest you can get and are all warped. I took a video of the warped rotors that he showed me on the lathe Took it right back to STS with the report and video guess what they replaced everything with THE RIGHT UPGRADED ROTORs that should have been done in the first place!!!! Been a month no issues with my brakes. Recap so a month later after STS changed my brakes over 8 hrs of useless troubleshooting of my time gone Also I asked if they can check the rotors before they installed the new ones they told me they don't have a lathe to do that.... SO WHEN THEY TOLD ME MY ROTORS ARE WARPED THE FIRST TIME HOW DID THEY KNOW IF THEY CANT CHECK THEM!!!!! When I asked they gave me the deer in the headlights look!!! I also talked to another customer waiting on his car that he had it on alignment done and it was the second time he brought it in because his car kept pulling to the right... Maybe these guys should stick to oil changes and tire changes Good bye clueless STS and so glad we found an honest and real mechanic!!!! read more

A flat tire is never a good event, and especially when it happens during a major holiday. It happened to me during the busy Xmas season, the last thing I needed with so many other errands to be done. STS/Mavis repaired the tire quickly and expertly while also saving the tire. And their charge for the repair was a very reasonable surprise. I've been going to this STS store for years. Each time, the mechanics manage my expectations regarding the issues with my car, the needed repairs, the costs, and the time in which the work will be complete. This recent visit had me interacting with Kyle, and Evan. Both were polite, friendly, helpful and patient when I wanted clarity about what specific mechanical problems needed addressed. Since I'm on a tight budget, they also helped me know which were top priority so those could be done first to get me back on the road safely. I wasn't made to feel foolish for putting off the other repairs, and felt comfortable that my needs were met; specifically having to get vital repairs complete for a long-haul trip. I'll continue coming here as long as this level of customer service, workmanship, and reasonable costs stay in place. read more

I recently went to STS Metuchen for a brake job and to check my exhaust system as I hear a clinking noise. The brake job took a long time but I rather the mechanic take his time and do it right than to rush. The new manager, Megan is Excellent! She kept me updated on the progress and apologized for the long wait. She even threw in a free oil change coupon the for the long delay. I sincerely appreciate the customer service. read more

I had been going here for many years when it was STS and was very happy with the service over the years ..but this is definitely not the case anymore since they changed over to Mavis Tire... I was there Thursday night because my tire was looking low and the following day I was going to be driving an hour and half on the Turnpike to visit a friend I spoke with the assistant manager ( I think he was) named Ash and he told me it wasn't anything serious with the tire and that if I wanted they could do it that night because they were opened until 8 on Thursdays.. I said fine and I didn't mind waiting After I had waited awhile Ash told me it was all done and I was good to go I paid the bill of $20.79 and he gave me the receipt which was $16.99 for computer balance package and $ 2.50 for valve stem assembly.. My tires on my 2001 Lexus RX300 were 3 years old and Ash repeatedly told me I was needing to replace the other 3 tires... Seriously tires need to be replaced after 3 years?? Maybe they are not selling good tires because before I got those new tires 3 years ago I had the tires that came with the Lexus RX300 since I got it!! That was over 15 years those tires lasted but Ash kept telling me I needed new ones after only 3 years!!! Smh The next day after work I left for my trip to south NJ via the Turnpike.. as I was driving after about 30 mins I had a blowout while driving and luckily was able to get to the shoulder without getting hit because it was rush hour The tire that I had repaired the night before blew out ! I was upset but luckily had AAA and a spare in my trunk I called Mavis Tire and they could have cared less that this had happened!! There was something loose at the underside of my car and it was dragging on the ground. Went into STS on a Saturday morning - and I can't say enough about how helpful they were. The gentleman at the front desk (unfortunately I didn't get his name) was very friendly and welcoming. I explained the issue and he took my car in right away. They saw what the issue was (loose oil filter cover), took off the cover and didn't charge me. What had begun as a tremendous annoyance finished on a high note - these guys were GREAT! read more

This place is the definition of lazy. I went in on saturday. Asked for 2 new tires as i punctured the sidewall on one tire. They said the truck was to heavy for the lifts. Ever hear of a car jack? I then asked if they can help put the spare tire on and they said no. The "mechanic" was sitting down watching videos on his phone. Lazy a**holes. Wanted nothing to do with working. I originally gave STS- Metuchen 5 stars. As I am sitting in the waiting room at Firestone, I am editing this to 1 Star. The last year + at STS, since Harry took over has been.... the 2000 equivalent of a "hot mess." I've had oil changes, tire rotations, tire fix, new tires, brakes and rotors in the last few years, as I have with every car since 1998 at this STS. Since Harry took over, EVERY SINGLE THING I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR has been "redone" by other shops because my car is not drivable. Oil was never changed at STS/MAVIS, brakes were never fixed, rotors, nothing. I mean this is serious. I could have crashed or been stranded. I paid. Service was "complete," it just wasn't actually done. Or at least done to completion. So, then...... WTH? I'm keeping my original post below so you can see the drastic change in business. [ORIGINAL POST - Been bringing my cars there since I got my first one. Granted, they haven't always been able to diagnose the random noises my car made in the past, they always tried! My experience with STS Tire in Metuchen was god awful and added to & prolonged my flat tire nightmare. I dropped off my rim to get a new tire put on they told me it was getting shipped that day and I could pick up the rim 1st thing in the morning with the new tire on it. I showed up 1st thing in the morning and they said the tire had not come in yet. They should have called me at end of business day the night before to tell me that to save me a trip in the morning. So then I said okay call me as soon as it's in and I'll come pick it up, it is urgent because I have work tonight. I called later on tire still wasn't there. I called 30 min before close and they say "oh yeah the tire came in 2 hours ago" WHY DID YOU NOT CALL ME LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD! So then I was late to work because of this. To top it all off, they did NOT put my tire valve cover back on. I hate this place with every piece of me and will never come back. read more

Not sure what's up with this place. Talk to Harry about get new tires that had to be ordered. Said he would call back in a few. Never did. Call him back and said he was busy and was going to call back. Harry search for my tires and all of sudden computer when down. Said he would call back the next morning. Never called. I called back and talked to another person and was given a quote. It was a little higher than the MAVIS online price. I asked why, he gave me BS excuse. I highly recommend this place for any maintenance you need on your vehicle! I needed new tires and an oil change on my 2003 Toyota Tacoma. The oil change also includes a free safety check which is great and I also informed on of the guys there to let me know how my brakes are since they felt a little weak. I got a call from Chris to inform me about my brakes and everything and he was very informative and honest about everything and didn't try to upsell me with anything I didn't need. Sts auto in metuchen on rt 27 is the only place I will take my car for all auto repairs big or small. Joe behind the counter is a great guy and always has something nice to say and always with a smile. They also somehow take thesis away from having to deal with fixing your car and dealing with local mechanics. You can always rely on an honest answer and in my 4 years bringing my car there never had an experience when I felt like they took advantage of me or the situation. Many a time I went in and had to fix a minor issue and he wouldn't charge me. I absolutely LOVE STS in Metuchen NJ. My family gets all of our cars serviced here. The staff are friendly, professional and honest. There have been many times when my 1997 car had issues, and Joe and his guys would take me into the shop to actually show me the problems and how they can fix it. I've gone here mostly for oil change and the people have been nice. unfortunately when my car started making noises coming from the serpentine belt, i was told the belt needs to be changed. i did change it. after this the noise still kept coming. i went again and again, they lubricated it, changed the belt again for me didnt charge me extra which was the good part. but that still did not solve the problem. then i finally took it to the honda dealership. they told me right away that the tensioner on which the belt runs was gone. they changed it. problem solved. never going to sts again. at least not with issues. read more

Terrible place. Avoid this store. They don't stand behind their jobs and products. And they cheat. I would give it zero star if the review page lets me. My experiences: 1. I bought a tire from them and the tire went bad (big bump on side) in less than one year. And they refused to replace it or take any responsibility. The manager was super rude. They sold me a lemon tire and tried to get away with it! 2. They did a regular maintenance on my car and my car's steering makes huge noise afterwards. Everyone at this place is rude and may be racist. Especially BILL old guy at the front. My co-worker was stranded on the side of the road due to a flat tire. I went to pick him up and Took him here since it was the closest place. They weren't even that busy and seemed so unwilling to help a PAYING customer. We told them they the car was at an unsafe location and they did not care. He bought a tire from them but they were taking forever. They wouldn't give my friend a time the tire would be done. I needed to get my tires rotated, and stopped in at the nearby Wal Mart. I was so frustrated waiting in line that I got on Yelp and found this nearby STS. I almost don't want to write this review so I can keep this place to myself. The manager Joe is the man, always remembers me and my wife and our cars. I've got tires here, oil changes, minor repairs. When I first moved I asked for a quote on some work, then took it to my regular guy that's been doing my family's cars for over a decade. STS Metuchen is the only auto center I go to for all my car's maintenance needs and I've been to many in my car's 12 year history. Since I rely on my car heavily and require oil changes every month or so, they are the ones I've come to know and trust with my car. The service is personal even though they are extremely busy most times. Their techs know what they're doing and they stand behind their workmanship. Their prices are the most competitive anywhere for the high level of service that you get. I will not take my chances with Pep Boys even though everyone knows they're cheaper but you get what you pay for. Spent over $1000 to have new tires put on my car here. I don't skimp on car stuff because I commute to work and put 4-500 miles a week on it. Tires arrived same day and were installed. Purchase of tires included free tire rotations. Went back on three separate occasions to get tires rotated and was given same line all the time, come back in morning or evening when not busy or wait 2-3 hours. Even made an appointment over the phone, got to shop and told 2 hour wait appointment means nothing. Surprisingly, when I was spending 1000 to get my tires there was no wait. Eventually went to a nearby mechanic who took care of it. Wife needs new tires now will be looking elsewhere read more
