I got food poisoning yesterday from the 7-pc $19.99 Special. I've only gotten food poisoning 3 or 4…read moretimes in 70+ years, so I can't complain--I have a strong stomach :-) But I've been to this store 4 times in the previous year (this was #5), and I've noticed a couple times that the chicken is old--old birds, gray, sinewy meat--not every time, just a couple times. But last night I spent some time picking over the mashed potatoes, gravy and biscuits. I'm realizing that KFC has done what many fast-food franchises have done--they've scaled back ingredients to the bare minimum, while pushing prices to the maximum the market will bear. The potatoes are a dehydrated mixture, the consistency is perfectly the same. It isn't flavorless, it's a single flavor--hydrated potato flakes. The gravy covers for the lack of potato flavor, but again, its flavor profile is canned, bouillon based, starched to thicken. The packets of real honey from years ago have been replaced by packets of Sugar-Honey sauce, and the butter packets are mostly ghee, with reduced butter solids. I swore off KFC 10 years ago when I was seriously ill from the KFC store in Monroe WA. Then 3-4 years ago I began again because I remember that delicious flavor (don't we all?!?!). My point is, I'm realizing there are better options available that are cheaper and way over-the-top more healthy. The chicken from the deli at Winco is a good choice at 1/2 the price, and it's just as ready to eat. Okay, I'm an accomplished chef, and my options at home are even better. I'm just explaining why I'm going to swear of KFC again. It's not that this store is so bad--it's that the value-proposition of the whole franchise has finally lowered itself enough that the convenience factor of KFC just isn't there for me anymore (my illness aside)!

I thought I would give myself a treat and have Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner…read more When I got home, I discovered the chicken must have been sitting under heat lamps for hours. It had a hard crusty shell that was inedible. The inside of the pieces were completely dried out, tough and stringy. If I hadn't driven all the way home to Cashmere I would have returned it and demanded my money back. They must serve the fresh chicken to the people who order there in the restaurant I won't make that mistake again. I will never return to that drive through, or that restaurant again. Sincerely, Past Customer!
