I had a new Air Conditioning unit installed 2/13/2024, when my new hot water heater was installed. I didn't get to begin to use the A/C until the past couple of weeks (today is 7/16/2024). With the high heat (90's +), I couldn't get it any cooler than 76 degrees in my house for days, although I had the thermostat set for 73... only the fan seemed to be working...no actual A/C cooling. Joey came out and had to let the coils defrost a bit and then added Freon, along with whatever other adjustments were required. He was very detailed and instructive, and showed me how (on my furnace) to properly seal the area where the furnace filters go, so as to prevent air leaks, which contributed to the a/c unit freezing up. I was sooo thankful to actually being using my a/c and having cool air come out!! I always get good service from Freedom Heating & Cooling, but Joey went above and beyond... was extremely thorough and I couldn't be happier with my new A/C finally actually cooling my place on these hot, 90+ degree days!! read more

One of the owners Nick was suppose to be helping me out with warranty part (inducer motor) that was still covered and he would just charge me the labor but because I told him I'd call him back the next day which I did he claims he can no longer help me because he's "too busy" dealing with insurance companies & Fema! Wow!!! Sis he really just tel me that?!?! The reason I had needed to call him back the next day was to make sure I could clear my schedule for the repair. So I called him back and the receptionist claimed he didn't have a voicemail even though he's an owner . I left a message for him to call me back that day and left a couple other messages over 2 weeks and an email so I assuming he totally ignored all of them. My experience with Freedom was fantastic from start to finish. And I interacted with numerous people within their organization. Our air conditioner had failed, was leaking, and was 20 years old and not worth repairing. So I needed to get several bids so I could find the best price and workmanship. The first bid I got was from the technician Willie at Freedom. He came out very quickly. I wasn't home but he explained what he found to my wife, then also called me to make sure he got to speak with us both. He gave me a reasonable quote to replace both the AC unit and furnace in our condo. Then I got 2 more bids. One of the bids was cheaper for the same equipment (Lennox single stage) And originally I thought of going with the cheapest quote, but many red flags came up with them after my initial commitment. I realized that after they got a verbal commitment from me, they became very unreachable. For several days. When they finally sent the quote in writing, it had zero detail about the work that was to be done. I read more reviews on Yelp and it became obvious that many HVAC companies are eager to get your business, but once they do the equipment install, they become phantoms. Which is distressing to think about considering they're supposed to guarantee their work for many years after an expensive install. Then I went back and reviewed Freedom thoroughly, realized they have 24 hour phone help and always come out quickly if there's an issue. And my first interaction with Willie was extremely positive. I called Willie again and he spoke to his boss Pete. In the end we worked out a price that was very fair, (only a $300 more than the lowest quote I got). Now, most importantly, when it came to the install day, I was blown away by the quality of workmanship from Genti, "Little" Pete, and Ralph. When they ripped out my old furnace, they showed me that the original furnace was installed with the air filter in the back where it was unreachable without pulling open the furnace every time, and this is why the last owner of our condo likely never changed it. Let me tell you the filter looked horrendous --caked in almost half an inch of dirt. The condenser on the AC was broken, and the humidifier filter had also not been serviced in years and had mold. They ripped out everything, re-installed the HVAC housing from the ground up, relocated pipes to a more logical and less dangerous position, installed a water leak sensor (because they didn't trust the existing humidifier to ruin their precious work), and built a new filter rack that faced forward for easy access to change the cheap air filter every month. Like I said, this level of detail and anticipation had been listed out by Willie in his initial written quote. Then the install techs who came out to my house did what was promised AND more (at no extra charge, no surprise costs). At the end of the day I paid exactly what had been agreed upon ahead of time. Remember that it's not just the equipment you're paying for, it's the level of knowledge and experience of the company. I knew confidently that there was no way I would have this quality of an installation if I had gone with the cheapest bidder. This company is amazing. I was unbelievably impressed by the work and the efficiency with which they did it. I will be recommending them to all of our friends and coworkers that live out here in Chicagoland, without hesitation. Some reviews i've read on here say things like "they charged me $100 for a part I could find for $20 online, 1 star" etc. Are people serious. Do they realize that a technician has to come out, troubleshoot your problem, then yes, they need to charge you more than $20 for the part. They were the ones who figured out which part was broken in the first place. If I asked you to come all the way out to my house in the snow, come inside my house, mess around with something for an hour, then I'll give you $20? I don't think so.no ones time is worth that. I have always used freedom heating and cooling and have always been responsive and have done a good job. Yesterday I had an AC checkup and it was suggested that I replace my capacitator. The charge was $330. Come to find out, the part only costs $20. I have had capacitators replaced in the past and they have been in the $200-$250 range. I feel as though this is price gouging. I have had all my HVAC and water heater needs installed and serviced by Freedom both commercial and residential. I had a weekend service roll needed on a Sunday which was great that Pete and his team could accommodate. Service tech on the call very courteous and nice. I had some questions on the cost of the services and was put in touch with the supervisor on call "Nick" as he explained to me I should be "happy the we are not charging you more to replace the burner and thermocouple as ABC Plumbing and Heating would have charged you for both and done that even though it was not need so be happy we did not". I did not need to have either the burner or thermocouple changed but Nick stated I should be happy with what Freedom was charging as ABC would have charge for additional services and materials that were not needed So my comment is: should I not be expecting honest and reliable service with Freedom? Freedom HVAC you may want have some additional customer service and communications education as today's experience fell way beyond the service level that I have experience for year at your company. A few days ago our furnace was acting up as the fan would turn on, but the pilot light/burner (pardon the incorrect HVAC jargon) wouldn't turn on, and coincidently and unfortunately, the unit was leaking water when I would run the furnace. We used Freedom Heating and Cooling once before about 5 years ago for a maintenance and subsequent humidifier install. As many contractors do, they adhered a branded maintenance schedule on the unit with dates/details of each visit. Because we remembered Freedom was reliable back then, we gave them a call to come out (we live in a condo in the West Loop) and check. I called in the morning and the technician (Nick F.) was there in the afternoon. Nick was not only personable, but he was extremely knowledgable and transparent. You can tell he loves what he does (Note to owner: give this man a raise in pay, please. I've hired many contractors before, and he is up there with some of the best!!). Anyway, he was able to fix the problem with the burner and we had heat back on right away. He also advised on what else we may need to have replaced and how much just purchasing an entire furnace unit would be (ours is 16 years old, which is about when furnaces need replaced- I actually did know that, haha!). In the event we replace the entire unit, you better believe I'm calling Freedom!!! Thanks again Freedom and Nick F.! Oh and keep the promo calls coming. Over the past few years I have been using them primarily for maintenance, but a few smaller repairs here and there without any issues. However, a few weeks ago, I had an experience that at first stressed me out, then later infuriated me so much I feel he need to write this review. Basically, the blower in my furnace stopped working. I was pleased that Freedom was able to dispatch a tech that same day that I called. The tech quickly diagnosed the issue as a faulty blower motor. Without looking anything up, he tells me the fan for my furnace is particularly pricy- that it would be about $1500. In the next breath, he then says my 12 year old furnace is basically a crap brand that is known for having lots of problems and proceeds to show me rust on the heat exchanger. His recommendation: Replace the whole furnace because he could just do the blower motor, but in about a year I would need a new furnace anyway. He verbalizes this will be about $4300. I'm shocked and immediately stressed thinking about having to incur such a large expense. Initially I'm like, well if it needs to be done, it needs to be done. He quickly gets a work order together. While he's out at his van doing this, I stop for a breath and think I'd better get another opinion. So I paid him the $119 for the visit (not even sure what the additional $50 was on top of the $69 visit charge) and told him I needed to think about it. Long story short, I did a little online research and found an HVAC company with great ratings, ServiceMax, and they were able to come out the next day. Within 5 minutes, instead of assuming the blower motor was bad, he told me he was going to try a new capacitor first. Low and behold, the fan came to life instantly upon installing it and has worked flawlessly since then. Cost: $187 all in. What a relief!!! And he also shared that a blower motor for my furnace is actually under $600, parts and labor... He was blown away when I told him what Freedom quoted. I'm super pissed knowing that they were playing some shady, predatory and deceptive scam game to scare me into spending $4k on something I didn't need. Needless to say, I will never use them again- and if I were you, I wouldn't either. If you're having HVAC issues, do yourself a huge favor and put your mind at ease- just call ServiceMax instead! read more

My a/c was making a loud noise and I was afraid to keep it running. I had no idea what was going on, but it did not sound normal. I scheduled an appointment with freedom to have them come out and and check it out. The guy who came out Rudy found out my fan motor was failing. He was able to come back within an hour with a new motor for a good price. Had it fixed within 30 minutes and got everything up and running normally again. This was my first experience with Freedom, but I would definitely recommend them and use them again. 5 Stars! read more

Hello Pete F.... You may be reputable, but you have some shady servicing employees that tried to rip me off. My unit was working fine and I just wanted a check up. I had zero issues with my unit. The 2 guys came out and told me I needed a new unit for over 4k. When they left my unit didn't work. How do you explain that! Luckily I know a retired HVAC repairmen with 50 years experience under his belt. He came out told me I was sabotaged. I spent lest than 15 bucks on some wires and was back running again. By the way this happened during the winter of 2022 and my unit still running like a champ. So Pete F check your employees cuz they are ruining the brand. Must be getting commission for them to attempt to rip people off with shady practices. SMH read more

My heat went out in the middle of the night over the weekend and I finally called Freedom Heating & Cooling to fix the problem. After speaking to their office to set up an appointment the technician arrived at my house about two hours later - no more problems since he completed the job. He fixed the furnace and all other heat related issues in under two hours. The technician was extremely friendly, courteous, helpful, and loved my dog. My little shih tzu learned a thing or two about heating systems. I've used other heating/ cooling companies in the past and never once had an experience anywhere near as good as I had with Freedom Heating & Cooling. Never again! My furnace went out last week, so I called these guys because they'd been helpful in the past. Not this time. This bozo shows up at the house, takes a quick look at the furnace and says "Dis ting is fried, you should praably just get a new one. We instaaaal em for $3400." When I asked what was wrong, he vaguely pointed a flashlight at it and said "could be dis, could be dat, we just dunno." He didn't even troubleshoot it, just tried to sell me an entirely new furnace. That sounded like BS to me, so I called another company (My HVAC Guy), who sent out a tech that afternoon, looked at the unit, ran some diagnostics, replaced a switch and the inverter, and got the heat back on. Total cost: $528. Had I listened to Freedom, I woulda been gouged nearly $3000. Don't let it happen to you. read more

Freedom SCAMMING and Cooling tried to charge me $6,720 for a new furnace when all I needed was two filters for less than $10. I wish I could report them to the police for attempted robbery. Be warned: they will ask if you want a simple HVAC inspection, then tell you the whole unit needs to be replaced. They did it with my AC a couple years ago and now my furnace. My furnace was making a loud noise and had a musty smell. Their tech Sarge simply removed the cover of the furnace, used no tools and barely looked at it for 30 seconds, and told me it was leaking carbon monoxide and that, and I swear this is true, I WOULD DIE if I didn't replace it immediately. I am not joking. Apparently he doesn't know that carbon monoxide is odorless. And he never bothered to check the carbon monoxide alarm a foot away. He warned me not to turn it back on and immediately called his boss to schedule installation of a new unit for $6,720 without asking me or writing up an estimate yet, describing options, etc. I of course told him I needed to call someone else, who told me to replace my filters and it should be fine. I did get a complete refund, again I never asked for a refund, I only wanted to know why the technician (pictured) thought it was ok to try to take advantage of someone. The technician Willie did call me and told me to go fuck myself. I definitely would not call that an apology. He called me back to say that he was suspended for 3 days and just upset and the night in question he was exhausted and just wanted to go home. That is no excuse to lie to customers and take advantage of them when they are at their most vulnerable. Again the pricing was never the issue, I was happy to pay the extra money for someone to come out and help me. Yes my brother's friend did confirm that it is a 17 yr old furance and that I have about 3 more years before it has to be replaced. I just bought the home in Oct 2019 alot of things need to be replaced, then the pandemic started Feb 2020 and money got tight, things are almost back to normal. GUESS WHO I WONT BE CALLING FOR A REPLACEMENT! The son Nick tries to make you feel bad for posting bad reviews online and Willie wants you to feel bad that he may lose his job. I noticed my air conditioning compressor was not turning on. A co worker of mine recommended Freedom Heating & Cooling. I am very pleased with the service. My air conditioner was old had a leak in it, and the technician recommended i replace at this time. I was given a very reasonable proposal, and decided to go with the installation. The air conditioner was able to be put in the next day and the technicians were quick ,neat, and explained everything i need to know about my new air conditioner. They also threw in a Maintenance plan which includes a Furnace tuneup in the Fall , and a Air conditioning tuneup for the next summer. After going back and forth with a few different companies, I ended up pulling the trigger with Freedom. My system was over 26 years old and it was time to replace it. These guys gave me a reasonable price, the longest warranties, and a free 2 year maintenance agreement (the Patriot Plan). Billy and Rick were the two gentleman that installed our new equipment and they did great work. They showed me everything about my new system, explained some DIY things to keep it in good shape to keep it in good shape, and also showed me my new filter rack (so much easier to change my filter now).
