I had an issue with my AC, call American Star and they came out the very next day. They looked over my unit and told me that it was over 24 years old and was leaking Freon. "it was time to replace my old unit", had one of there sales guy out a couple of days later to give me an estimate. I did a little research on my own so I already had an idea on what the cost was going to be. They came in with a very fair price so I agreed for them to do the work. it was going to be very warm the up coming weekend so they sent a tech to my house to add Freon (No charge) to help me and my family get thru the very warm weekend and be as comfortable as possible. They arrived on Monday to install the new AC system, I am very please with how they handled the whole situation from helping with my old system to the installation of the new system. Nothing quite like moving into a new home in early spring, going to turn on the aircon at the first hot day of the year - and you're still sweating even after it's been running for hours. Well, we thought it was running. After further making things worse trying to self-diagnose (our thermostat suddenly wouldn't turn on), we found magnets from the previous owners indicating they were members of ASTHC's maintenance club. The weather had cooled down so luckily we were able to have someone come over within a couple days to see what was going on. Alexa arrived a little earlier than expected after checking with us if that was cool, and promptly showed us what we had done and that she could fix it. She then inspected our a/c unit outside and let us know it had a part that wasn't working. Alexa made the effort to ensure it was under warranty and installed the spare she had on her, and cleaned it up. She also gave us some tips on how to help cool the upper floor and turn down in the in house humidity. We decided to also join the club before she started, and running over the numbers when she was done, it was well worth it for us. We look forward to having them over to make sure our heat is ready once things start to cool down, but this was a great first experience. read more

It took about two and a half hours installation time, I have been a customer since 2010 and this company always does great work. I was billed $165 for an inspection after it took place, but was never informed there was a cost when I scheduled. I was told that could be credited to the service, but was declined the credit when I bought the unit next door, which used the exact same make, model, and even date of production HVAC. I really hate to complain and leave poor reviews, but transparency is an expectation here. My wife and I definitely feel like we got hosed. read more

I was disappointed when, after my American Start furnace "tune-up", I found that the humidifier was slowly leaking. Upon further investigation, I was surprised to find that the water feed tube, which had to be handled by the technician when replacing the pad, was so brittle that it had cracked. The age and brittleness of the tube was certainly not the fault of American Star, but I was surprised that the tune-up was considered complete without notifying me of the poor condition of a component that had been handled by the technician. I called American Star to share my concerns and a return visit was immediately offered to rectify the situation. I was happy to get an appointment for the next Saturday. The technician showed up and watched me demonstrate the brittleness of the tubing as I easily broke off several small pieces. He informed me that I would not be charged for the service call, only for the part. I thought this was fair. He looked the part up in a book and quoted me a price of $75! Seventy-five dollars for a 2 feet of rubber tubing and a compression fitting seemed a bit high to me, especially since I had looked it up online and found it for $5.99 plus $8.00 shipping for a total of about $14. http://www.alpinehomeair.com/viewproduct.cfm?productID=453063530 I mentioned this to the technician and he indicated that there was nothing he could do. I mentioned that $75 was an insult to an educated customer and that I would consider $20 a fair price for the convenience, but apparently he is not empowered to work with customers in this fashion. Do not use this company. They overcharge their customers. They recently took advantage of an older family member and charged him double what other companies would charge for the exact service (we did our research). When we contacted the company, the president, AL Markewycz, sent us a very condescending email about the costs of running a business. Little does he know he is addressing 2 very successful business professionals in their own right. He obviously has to write a lot of these letters since he tried to justify even the cost of their advertising and taxes. All businesses have these costs and that is no excuse to rip people off. I have been extremely pleased with the great service I have received and still receive from American Star. They are wonderful from the front office, to Al, to his technicians. I received a very fair price for HVAC and the installation went smoothly. I also had them install a water heat when my old one went kaput. When I had a water disaster in my home and I needed my furnace and water heater removed so Servpro could tear out the drywall behind the units and then put them back. Servpro brought in another company to do the HVAC work. When their guy said he would have to cut my AC line and damage the unit to remove it I made him stop and we called American Star. Joe and his assistant Chris came out right away. No AC line needed cutting and they figured out what they needed to do without damaging or cutting anything. They removed the units with no damage, waited for Servpro to do their thing and reinstalled the units. They were not going to leave until I had heat and hot water. Extremely nice and knowledgeable. 5 Star Service!!! Won't go anywhere else. read more

We have used American Star for our duct cleaning last year and it was the best thing we did. Many competitors have coupons and the cost is cheap, but you get what you pay for. They do QUALITY job and actually do a good job cleaning your ducts. They dont just do surface clean, they actually clean the ducts and improve air quality in your home. I have felt better in my own home after getting the ducts cleaned. We moved in Jan 2015 and due to winter had to wait to do ducts and we finally did and I dont regret it at all. Our air conditioning went out just before the 90 degree weather hit. American Star came to the rescue and we didn't feel like we were taken to the cleaners because of desperation. Joe and his team came out and installed both an air conditioning unit and furnace all in one day. We were leaving to go out of town that evening and they made sure that our deadline was met. After everything was installed Joe and his team went over the operation of everything with us thoroughly and left with 10 minutes to spare for the deadline. I had American Star come in and replace a water heater today. The situation was difficult, since the basement was remodeled years ago when the tanks were smaller than the new ones are now. Removing the old tank and replacing it was done in a very tight place. I had a team of two: Jason and Jim, who were super efficient, neat and clean, and handled the tricky logistics perfectly.
